Update from Coventry - they have now extended our deadline for return of the forms. Good customer service - and proving that they do actually treat customer's situations on an individual basis, IMO. (Of course, it might be that they plan to extend EVERYONE's deadline - but either way, it hopefully works for us!)

  • Reply from Coventry to my message asking for an extension of time to return the signed document for the new account saying that they are aware of postal issues but are currently undecided as to whether to extend the deadlines for return on this...sigh. My original message did make clear that the issues with post that we are struggling with go well beyond the national issues around the strikes!  We'll see. Maybe by some miracle it will be there when I get home this evening....along with a large deposit from the flying pigs, no doubt...
After returning the forms and receiving a lettee that your account is open, it is still not really open because the online registration isn't working. I called up a few days ago, they said rhey wanted proof of id, which I emailed them. Still zero success.

Bottom line is, competing products are now appearing and it might be time for me to give up on Coventry.

The YBS 6 access saver has gone to 3.5% as of today.  If your Coventry 6 access saver balance is large enough, shifting the lot might be worth it.
I cannot find any information on this. Is there a link? Is it available to new customers?

I'd keep at it if I were you. Coventry do tend to offer some very competitive accounts every so often and once you're in it's plain sailing from there. Even if you end up just opening the account with £1 and leaving it at that for now it will save you a lot of time later on if they launch something of interest again.

yes, I'd echo the positive comments about Coventry. We've had accounts with them a while now, and been pleased overall. This has been the first tie we've had this issue since originally joining them as customers, and in any event, this isn't their fault, it's down to Royal Fail and their complete lack of any sort of postal service in our area!

It is entirely their fault. Firstly, its 2023, so online application should be just that - online. Secondly, checking your ID and running credit checks on you - takes seconds or milliseconds. NOT WEEKS. Thirdly, using a "grid card" posted - is technology from hundreds of years ago. They never heard of mobile apps, nor authenticator apps, not biometrics. This company lives in 1752 or something.

Before the invention of the telephone in 1876?

A lot of banks have weird "know your customer" rules.

Also some 132 years before it was even founded.

It's not entirely their fault. The postal strikes have had an effect too. Not everyone needs things to happen instantly anyway. Once opened and funded it offered the best rate for such an account.

For those that need constant App access to their money, there are plenty of options to choose from.
Not sure they will be around as long as CBS though.
