Minimum balance for the Charter Easy Access is £5k.

If your balance is under the minimum applicable to this account, the interest rate will remain at 0.10% AER

I like the way these banks make the rate rise announcement but then wait 2 weeks before applying it.

    They can't win, can they.

If they don't advise early, some people complain about late advice.

Issue 28 isn't even available to new customers.

The question with Charter is - are they increasing all issues including the current issue 30 and will they be adding a new issue 31?

I can be wrong, but IMO, an increase from 2.35% to 3% for new customers is unlikely.

FWIW, and IIRC, last time, they (unusually IME) increased the rate on existing issues, then launched a new issue at a lower rate.

If someone pasted up a copy of the Charter email, maybe we could be clearer about their proposal.

    Dear Mr Sunak,

We’re pleased to confirm we’re increasing the interest rate on your easy access account to 3.00% AER*.

Your rate will increase automatically on 23 January 2023 – you don’t need to do anything. All other terms and conditions of your account remain the same.

If your balance is under the minimum applicable to this account, the interest rate will remain at 0.10% AER*.

You can find the rates we pay (and previous rates paid) on all of our variable rate accounts in our  on our website.

There’s no need to call us, your account will update automatically on the date above.
    Yours sincerely

    Customer Service Team

    Charter Savings Bank

    * AER stands for annual equivalent rate and illustrates what the interest rate would be if it was paid and compounded once each year. As every advertisement for a savings product will contain an AER you will be able to compare more easily what return you can expect from your savings over time.
