Sold the Wrong Car
I purchased a car 6 months ago online through Lombard (Hire Purchase Company).
I spoke to the Sales Executive at a BMW approved Car dealership via email and telephone. We went through in meticulous detail about the car, including thorough videos of the vehicle. It was arranged to be delivered to me the following week.
When it arrived it was not valeted and had obviously just left the car showroom without a clean. After turning the vehicle on the tyre pressure gauge warning light appeared over the media screen.
The main problem was the vehicle was advertised as a BMW 220i (including all the paperwork/contract that was subsequently signed and has since not been amended) but the car is in fact a BMW 218i. Don’t ask me how they didn’t know it as I’m still at lost with it!
I have had limited dialogue with the Car dealership as the Sales Manager hasn’t returned my calls. I have lost faith of them resolving this situation so I said I will be taking this further.
They have now responded asking what I am looking for?
What would be a reasonable request to ask for?

Are we talking a two-series coupe (RWD 1-series with two doors), or a two-series active/grand tourer (FWD Mini-based sprogbus)
Sorry... You went through it in "meticulous detail", yet six months passed before you realised that the boot badge and V5C didn't say "220i", but said "218i", and that there was only three-quarters of the engine you were expecting? (218i - 1.5 three-cylinder, 220i - 2.0 four-cylinder)
You've been driving it around for all that time, without complaint other than when you picked it up, you said "It's a bit dusty and the tyres need some air"? It's the exact same used car you viewed and decided to buy?
The time to raise this has passed.0 -
Why didnt you refuse delivery or reject it as soon as you realised ( assuming that was straight away)0

Is this a common occurrence with BMW? https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5959386/new-car-not-as-sold-by-salesman&highlight=bmw0

What's it insured as?
Even if you chose to have it without badges there should have been plenty of evidence it was a 1.5 and not a 2.0. I suspect that if you didn't reject or complain about it at collection there's nothing you can do beyond enjoying your cheaper running car.0 -

Ive seen it a few times. It shows when theposter has requested to have the account removed.
Post number 7 has quoted 1 of the OP's posts, Peter Allsop is his name.
Not quite sure how you can buy a car and not notice its the right car before you drive it away.0 -

Not quite suee how you can buy a car and not notice its the right car before you drive it away.
The poster in that thread somehow managed to miss a panoramic roof when he collected it so I guess half a litre of engine and a cylinder is easy in comparison.0 -

Rather than asking us why don't you say what it is you want?0 -
Just to clear things up I knew straight away that it was a 218i, it has the badge on the back. And you can certainly tell the difference between a 1.5 and a 2l when driving. How no one spotted it is beyond me!
My previous lease ran out so I need a car. I was a little naive and knew all the paperwork and advertisement was wrong so I thought they didn’t have a leg to stand on if I returned the car. I explicitly told them that this would need to be resolved... however after speaking to numerous people from Lombard I went straight to the Dealership. I have been chasing this up monthly.
I had the choice to refused the car at the beginning however I chose it was in the best interest for myself to take it in the hope it would be resolved.0 -

You didn't notice this when viewing and test-driving it before agreeing to buy it?
You didn't notice this when you collected it?
Why are you complaining now, after six months?I was a little naive and knew all the paperwork and advertisement was wrong so I thought they didn’t have a leg to stand on if I returned the car.
OK, so you DID know when you viewed, test-drove, agreed to buy that it was exactly what you're now complaining - six months later - that it is.
And now you're complaining that you were right all along, and did exactly what you thought you were doing?I had the choice to refused the car at the beginning however I chose it was in the best interest for myself to take it in the hope it would be resolved.0
