I want a balance of having fun with my family, saving some money and paying those debts off

    0 xx

Hi BB50, This sums up perfectly what I'm aiming to achieve as well. I've only been keeping a diary for a couple of months and don't have loads of money I need to keep track of but I've never felt so in control of what I do have since joining here.

The other thing I've found is it's not just about the money, it's about the thinking behind why you do things which is quite eye opening at times :rotfl:

Good luck with your goals. I've subscribed and will be cheering you on. xx
  • Grill your bacon instead of frying it - I promise it'll be every bit as crispy! Streaky works better than back for this, if you want it to be really really crispy.

Thanks Silver Queen I will try streaky! I just love bacon xx

Thank you teafor2. I have to confess I read all of your diary in one go yesterday and it really made me think as I have an idea where i fritter our fun budget on and hoping this diary will confirm it. Also helped me to make my mind up about starting this diary so thank you :T

I am also hoping that it will help me with the thinking why i do certain things too.

I am sure i subscribed to your diary but i am going to check now and I really appreciate you cheering me on!

    xx

Did someone mention bacon?? Mmmm... that's being added to the shopping list for next week now :)

Glad you've already adopted the multiple accounts approach and as you say, it is working for some elements. I suppose it's maybe worth an overhaul of your spending to see if a) your budget for each area is big enough and b) to shock yourself a bit by what you're spending in other areas.

It might be worth working out what you have roughly per week then adopting a weekly review of spending on your accounts too? That way after week 1 if the spending account looks like you've overspent, then you know to rein it in for week 2 etc. Might stop you from needing to rob other pots if you can get into the mentality of reviewing and realising that you need to stop spending.

You might already do these things but worth sharing just in case, i think!

We have recently changed around who pays for what as it wasn't working before. Now my husband's pay covers all our bills and debts and my pay covers our spends, petrol and food. Before we were both trying to pay our bit and it didn't work. May be rejig it round. And don't touch the bills account!

Good luck! I pay my mortgage by bank transfer instead of DD so I can just pay it on payday and then forget about it. It used to be mid month, which meant there was a risk the cash would have been dipped into to pay something else.

Thanks for stopping by Kitten - I won't touch the bills account!!

We have a joint account where all our money goes in so we both pay for everything. However I get paid monthly so historically (pre-children when i worked full time and earned a lot more than i do now and a more than DH) my salary paid for all the DD's and DH wage (paid weekly) was used for food, petrol and fun etc. So the majority of our DD's are set up for the week after my pay date but we don't usually have enough to cover them that week but we catch up over 'our financial month' with DH's pay. Hope that makes sense?

    xx
