Hey, just stopping by to wish you well.

RE: the spending your husband's wages instead of saving them for DDs.

I decided we needed to separate bills and spending money to keep us on track and although it's not 100% effective, it's definitely at least 85% effective so really is working for us.

Every month on my pay day, i send cash to cover fuel, groceries and spending money for the month into our spending account. Theoretically we shouldn't need to touch the other account but sometimes we run out and need to pilfer from the bills account. Most of the time it works great for us, especially for my husband who doesn't take much to do with the finances so would just see money available at the cashpoint and assume we could spend it. When in actual fact, it should've been entirely earmarked for bills.

It has made a massive difference to us and how we spend.

Might be something that can work for you?

Hi Homegrown0 really appreciate you stopping by to wish me well.

When DH gets paid weekly I do transfer money over to the different accounts for fuel, spending fun etc. My problem is if I overspend on those I just take it out of the main account. Having apps on my phone doesn't help as I am always plundering saving account. I just need to stop spending and be more accountable on what I spend I think. I am definitely going to list more on this diary so people can question what I do.

Have been juggling the money today as they are retaking the mortgage payment again tomorrow. They have phoned DH twice at work (on his mobile thankfully) about the DD failing for the last 3 months so I definitely need to get this under control cos he was not impressed.

    xx
  • Have you thought about having 2 bank accounts so separating out bills money and spending money as homegrown suggests? One to pay direct debits and one for disposable income for food etc. You could ask for the large direct debits to come out on 22nd after you get paid. Work out the difference between the bills you have and your normal salary and divide by 4 and put that amount from your husbands salary each week?

Also not buying food and coffees out as a regular thing saves a fortune. Good luck with getting rid of the debt and losing weight.

LOL. I will make a start by questioning the £3.60 on a bacon sandwich and crisps when you already had that food in. :rotfl:

Thanks enthusiaticsaver for stopping by. You are definitely an inspiration to me and I love your
supportive posts on other peoples diaries.

So we have 3 current accounts currently:
Joint account - both salaries paid into it and all DD's paid out
Current a/c - purely for Car and I am doing really well with this. I transfer £60 a week into it for fuel and hopefully a little surplus towards MOT's and services (due March and Sept) currently have £141.02 in this so this account works.
Current a/c - transfer £100 into this weekly for grocery shopping which I tend to do online.

Plus lots of savings accounts with very little in them attached to all the current accounts.

I then have an envelope system at home (plastic wallets with zips!) for birthdays, beauty/health, clothes and weekly spends money. This also works well. I also transfer £25 a week to my friends mum who runs a Christmas savings club - this works very well as I don't have access to the money (I do as every time i see her she reminds me I can ask for it anytime) but it means everything to do with Christmas is completely covered.

Compared to 6 months ago I would say I am 30% there with getting my spending under control. I just need to get to 80% to be happy.

I think not buying the food and coffee would help with the weight and I could probably save a £100 a month - eek that's a mini LBM - what could I do with an Extra £1000 a year???

Sorry ES for the long ramble in reply xx

That's exactly what I mean - why do I do it? My bacon isn't as crispy is not a good enough excuse is it? xx

Nope not really. I am all for treats to help this process along the way but I guess it depends on how often you do that sort of thing. You could limit yourself to say one bought bacon roll a month? Was it a one off or do you do it a couple of times a week?

To be completely honest, and this diary will only work won't it if I am completely honest, at least 3 times a week on my working days and then I will look for excuses to take my 3 year old out on my non-working days for breakfast after the school run.

Food for thought and a plan needs formulating. I did the 8 week Blood Sugar diet at the end of last year and stopped this habit for 8 weeks so I can do it.

    xx
  • Yes, it will only work if completely honest. Stopping the bacon rolls will also help you lose weight although I really feel like one though now and can't as on low fat, low carb and low sugar diet. The birthday cake my DD has bought for me today will have to be the exception though LOL.

  • Enjoy the cake ES - there needs to be exceptions but just not every day in my case!
  • Grill your bacon instead of frying it - I promise it'll be every bit as crispy! Streaky works better than back for this, if you want it to be really really crispy.
