I have to laugh really (in an ironic, slightly hysterical way), it wouldn't do to have an easy life now would it?
I know my rights (well, I'm learning them this evening with the help of the Acas website) and I know she can't just 'get rid of me' and I WILL fight her if I have to but...... I'm not very good with confrontation <wibble>, that's H's department!
Hi Scarlett
What a crappy thing to happen just when you don't need it....
The ACAS helpline have been good with me in the past. Do you have a copy of your contract of employment?

Hi Scarlett,
I'm so sorry to hear your news about your job...we seem to be on a par in the bad luck stakes! My OH lost his new job following his injury in October (just laid him off within his probationary period) and I had to resign in Jan due to ill health as they were going to sack me anyway!
Have a look at your contract, request any documents it refers to (i.e. it often says 'see such and such a policy') though hopefully you'll already have them being as organised as you are. Some companies can be sneaky with this though. They will give you a folder to read through when you start and it will reference documents in your contract so they can change them at their leisure basically. I'm not sure how legal this is really but I know a lot of organisations employ this tactic these days. How long have you been with the company? Have there been any disputes they can drag up (when they want rid of you companies will often drag anything up, even disputes where you were in the right).
Mention anything else you can think of and PM me if you don't want to discuss on the board. I'm pretty on the ball with these things given the necessary info and I'd love to help.
Crystal
(hugs)

Do you think I might win some sort of award for most drawn-out bankruptcy? I'm quite surprised the fees haven't actually gone up since I booked it
Have a marvellous weekend, have 1 for me

We're back, we're bankrupt
It all went incredibly well, better than either of us could have hoped for or expected. We arrived at court for about 9.30 (our appointment was for 10.00) and were seen within 10 minutes by a clerk who was lovely; very professional, very kind and very helpful. He took us into a private room and went through all our forms with us (just 1 or 2 small alterations, nothing major) and then said he would have to go and get confirmation as to whether we would be exempt for the court fee. A nail biting wait then of about 15 minutes...... back he appeared and good news, we WERE exemptWe then did the 'swearing' bit (can't think of the correct term at the moment!), H did the non religious one and I did mine on the Bible and he then took us through to the counters where we paid our OR fees.
We were then taken through to a waiting room where the clerk gave our forms to the usher and we had to wait then to go and see the judge. We were there for about 30-40 minutes before we were called. H was fine the whole time and I was okay-ish until our names were called. I felt very wobbly then and just thanked god I wasn't on my own, that H was there with me.
The usher led us down a corridor and kindly told us to address the judge as 'Sir' and ushered us in <gulp>. The room itself was not in the least bit intimidating, it was just an office. Down we sat (me shaking like a leaf by this point) and the judge was lovelyHe went through H's forms first, asked a few questions and then declared him bankrupt as of 18th Feb at 11.22am. He then went through mine, a couple of questions for me too and then declared me bankrupt as of 18th Feb 11.27am.
He thanked us for filling in our forms so fully, said it made it much easier for him. He then said he could see what a difficult time we had had in the last couple of years and how he hoped this would now be a weight off our minds and wished us all the luck for the future. At which point I starting cryingI managed to gather myself together enough to whisper "thank you" and he smiled back at me before the usher came back into the room and led us back to the corridor. She then, very kindly, asked me was I okay but I was too busy trying to stop crying to answer her! H just said "she's okay, it's just when people are nice to her" and she replied "we're quite nice here really!".
That was pretty much itWe went back to the room we were in before with the clerk and he gave us our copies of the forms back, along with the OR's tel. number and our BR numbers. He then wished us both well and we were free to go. The OR will call today to make our appointments for our interviews, so just waiting for that now.
Sorry, I can see <glances up> that I've waffled on far too much, as usual
It wasn't anything like how I thought it would be. I wish I'd been able to believe you all when you told me it would be fineEveryone we dealt with today was kind, professional and totally non-judgemental (pardon the pun) and my only regret is tying myself up in knots for the last few days, worrying myself silly about it.
It's more or less over now. We have a lovely fresh new start and a lovely debt free life to look forward to. I am never going to allow money to rule my life again the way it has before. I'll control my money from now on, instead of it controlling me
I just want to say a massive, HUGE thank you to you all, for the support, help and encouragement over the last few months, we could never have done this without you.
Feeling a bit emotional now, so going to stop blathering on with myself and shut upYou can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that
