Symbio Energy feedback

Read back on this thread. I think someone posted that they didn't allow it when the poster asked Symbio about doing that.
I have re-read the thread just to remind myself, but could remember the posts at the time. It all sees a bit like 'Chinese Whispers' to me.
I think your best bet lies with MABLE.
In post#75 (14/04/2019) she said she had the cheapest tariff possible for her (which was from Symbio) and in post#84 (23/04/2019) she confirmed that was a fixed tariff.
Following a post by Tafrock, post#86 advising that a new, cheaper tariff had been launched that day, MABLE in post#87 said she would request it as it would save her £44 per year.
This was the first mention I can find of a tariff transfer not being requested, when she said:
"However I think I read on this forum a contributor tried to swap tariffs but was advised they could not do that. "
But I cannot see such a post by another contibutor
In post#90 (24/04/2019), I posted saying:
"Well if they won't let you transfer tariffs, switch away (as they have no exit fees - ensuring what you switch to also has no exit fees) and then switch back to the new lower tariff :money:
I'm sure they will soon learn... "
And in post#92 that same day, MABLE postedin reply to me:
"My plan B is to switch away if they will not allow me to transfer and will probably go to Bulb and then once I get the £50 bonus from them will switch back again. "
In post #104 (26/04/2019) MABLE was still awaiting a response
There was unfortunately no further updates I could see from MABLE on this topic, although she has posted since in this thread on other matters.
However, there was no mention that MABLE ever left to go to Bulb in the short term, but seemed to remain with Symbio throughout.
There was also a post by Tafrock, post#105 (26/04/2019) that may have been inferred it was not possible, but to be fair, I don't think he gave Symbio much of a chance. He emailed them hours before the switch went ahead.
But to be fair, what he did actually post was:
"I guess you just emailed them did you. They never told me I couldn't either but I suspected it was because I was literally hours away from switch completion.
I got an email next morning saying my switch had completed. ..."
If there is anything else important in this thread you think I have missed regarding whether a transfer of tariff is possible or not, I'm all ears ... or perhaps eyes in this case :rotfl:0 -
My advice given in post#90 still stands today:)
Everyone seems to get a welcome letter with the price guarantee, so would be counter intuitive if they refused internal tariff changes.0 -

They would not allow me to transfer to another tariff. However they did extend my fix for 2 month and gave me £5.00 credit and this was because they started billing customers in advance rather than in arrears. However I am sure you know all that.0 -

So what you are saying is that you contactedyour energy supplier to request to be moved to a cheaper tariff they had on offer, and not only did they refuse, but as some sort of punishment, extended your priod on the overpriced tariff by a further 2 months
I think I'll give this supplier a miss and just switch directly to Bulb. Not only will they pay me 10x more 'golden hello' just for joining them than symbio credited you in some sort of embarassing gesture of goodwill (or was it ill feeling?), but they also offer a similar handsome reward for encouraging others to join them.
Furthermore, Bulb have a genuine variable tariff, so if they decrease the price, everyone gets the lower price and they don't even have to ask
(let alone suffer the indignation of being rejected, and punished as a result):money:0 -
Though for many it might be too much hassle depending on the saving, though doing it for the bulb cashback might be useful but isn't that after 3 months?
I think MSE only pay £25 cashback for a dual fuel switch to Bulb.
If you use a referral link, you'll get £50 (as will the referrer) and that is credited to your account almost immediately the switch completes. It does not rely upon you remaining with Bulb for any specific time.
(For those with prepayment meters it takes 1-3 working days after the first top-up, and is sent through Transferwise)Everyone seems to get a welcome letter with the price guarantee, so would be counter intuitive if they refused internal tariff changes.
I'm not sure they can actually enforce such 'punishement' unless the customer agrees to bend over - I'm sure it's against an Ofgem rule somewhere.0 -

Very much in the same vein as people say they won't move to bulb as its a variable rate and may well go up over they year so they could pay more than a fix that might initially be higher - bulb inform you in advance and no exit fee,. :think:0 -
No good for us; they don't seem to supply gas.0

I doubt the tariff the poster is on is overpriced and was probably cheaper than other suppliers (otherwise why would they have joined?). If there is no exit fee then no obligation to stay the extra months.

Bulb told us their next move would be to reduce their prices. Somethiung to do with Ofgem they said. All suppliers were having to reduce their standard, variable rates.0
