Symbio Energy feedback

This is a slightly off topic question, but I moved into my house a few months ago. The last owner was with Symbio. I intended to sort out my electricity supplier, but wanted to do some more 'research' before signing up/determine my risk for appetite with Symbio. Alas, I still haven't bothered to sort it.Who do I actually pay for the electricity I've used so far? Symbio haven't contacted me once in the last three months regards it. Octopus had a letter through my letter box the day after I moved regards the gas. At some point a bill is going to be owed for the electricity.
Also, what does this mean?Tafrock said:Yet another provisional order issued to symbio by ofgem today https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/symbio-energy-limited-provisional-order0 -
You need to contact Symbio to set up an account and pay for energy used to date. You can't transfer supplier until you set up an account.hojkoff said:This is a slightly off topic question, but I moved into my house a few months ago. The last owner was with Symbio. I would do it sooner rather than later as you will be in quite a high deemed tariff at the moment.
I wouldn't worry about the Ofgem orders - especially provisional ones. They are often administrative saying a supplier hasn't done something they should have0 -
I don't think symbio will last much longer so it may be interesting how you register for your energy. I'm surprised you've left it so many months, what were you thinking about for so long.
I'm surprised symbio have outlasted avro, green, igloo, up and people's energy. The fact they've stopped taking new customers means its a waiting game till they go bust.1 -
Symbio are only around longer than expected due to their massive cash grab and failure to refund ex-customers. Sad state of affairs when ex-customers are praying for them to go bust as the only way of getting their credit back.

So, good news for me at least. I got a full refund from my Credit Card provider, for all of my Symbio credit, via a Section-75 reclaim. It only took a few days.
I was only able to do this, because, prior to my switch away from Symbio, they demanded I make a large payment to them (which I opted to do so, using a credit card).
As they now won't refund credit balances, the card company agrees that the amount they owe me, should be seen as a partial refund from my settlement payment.
So my suggestion would be:
- Cancel any symbio Direct Debit (for now at least)
- Ideally, let your account build up a balance (always better for you to owe them, than vice versa).
AND
- If they do come calling for a payment, stick it on a credit card (ensure it is over £100).
SC
Unfortunately, the bad news for me was that I switched from Symbio (3 months ago), to Green.... and now Green have gone under (too?). From the frying pan, into the fire. *sigh*.3 -
So does that mean they also recalled the money back from Symbio or did the CC company just take the hit? If the latter, what happens when the potential SOLR refunds your credit balance when Symbio goes under next week?Sillychuckie said:So, good news for me at least. Symbio owe me around £150 due to overbilling. Have tried contacting them through phone (no luck), sent emails over last few weeks which have never been answered. I am seriously considering cancelling my direct debit until I owe them again ! Is this the best way forward?1

I am in exactly the same boat, £150 built up with approx £20 a month being added to this. According to their T&Cs, missing DD payments incurs a £10 fine, and they will put you on their more expensive rate. So in theory, we should keep the DD set up.Sun-Is-Fun said:Symbio owe me around £150 due to overbilling. Quite whether anyone is actually working there any more to administer this is another thing - their twitter feed appears to have gone completely rogue, and just posts stuff about Cryptocurrency.1 -
Why would they at the momentDiseasedBunny said:Symbio not taking any more quotes…0 -
Ah, but that's just "due to technical issues" or so it says on their website.grandadgolfer said:DiseasedBunny said:Symbio not taking any more quotes…
