Usually I look on their website at the current tariffs and just switch to the cheapest, but all of the tariffs listed expired on 31st May! Do they actually have any tariffs available any more?? Obviously no-one picks up the phone ever.
New customer ban for Symbio Energy & others - Selectra

Some connection perhaps? 🤔Nope. Selectra's carrier pigeon news service hasn't caught up. Ofgem made the order back in March and revoked it because Symbio have signed up to the DCC.- On 11 May 2020, the Authority issued a Revocation Order under section 25(7)(c) of the Electricity Act 1989 and section 28(7)(c) of the Gas Act 1986. The Authority decided that the Final Order was no longer required for the purpose of ensuring Symbio’s compliance with standard licence conditions 42.8 of the gas supply licence and 48.8 of the electricity supply licence as Symbio became a DCC User on 25 March 2020. The Final Order is no longer in place.

As per some others in the forum, I used a prior link to pick an existing customer tariff, but I never received a confirmation email.
Long and short, I have been told, the new (variable B3.5) plan is the best one for me and they will not be moving me onto any another tariff. There are apparently no fixed or variable plans that are available to me and I will not be able to pick any of the tariffs available to new customers. I pushed him on this a number of times and he would not budge.
He also told me they have intentionally remove the link to existing customer tariffs in the reminder emails.
I got the agent to raise it as a complaint for all the good it will do, but looks like its switch time for me.
And here's their initial response to my complaint;Dear Mr.,Thank you for your time on the phone today. We apologise for the inconvenience cause to you. We have registered your complaint as SYMBC-XXXXXX dated 07/06/2121 .Please be assured that we will take adequate steps to ensure that all the issues raised in the complaint are resolved. Request you to kindly quote the complaint reference number in all your correspondence till the complaint is resolved. As discussed, We cannot offer you alternate tariff apart from the one we quoted in the email. You can apply for a switch to a different supplier by paying the outstanding dues. Please note that once switch to a different supplier we will issue you a final bill as per the validated closing reading received from the regulator and any over payments collected will be refunded back to you accordingly. You are a valued customer and your feedback is important to us. We are constantly upgrading our processes so we can serve you better. We hope this resolves your query. Kindly let us know, if we can close the complaint.

Sounds like they are on the brink and therefore unable to offer any more cheap deals.

Just as a general comment, I'd suggest that any tariffs under 15p/kWh are going to be very hard to sustain with current wholesale prices, and even 15p is very low in current terms, so expect 17p or thereabouts with regional variations, to be the new 'cheap' rate...If you've got a fix well below that then enjoy it while it, or the supplier, lasts...0

Actually got through on the phone, they confirmed no new tariffs for now, just the standard 17p/kWh one. I will switch once my DD clears and I can pay the remaining balance by card (to avoid them blocking the switch).Even Octopus Go's day rate is now over 16p/kWh, it's getting crazy out there! If I knew I'd be staying in my current house I'd get solar panels and a battery but since we plan to move (if house prices ever stop skyrocketing), there's no point.0

Symbio do have fixed rates seemingly available 14.5p ish kwh, 26p standing charge

Those are their 'new customer' rates though aren't they?It is existing customers that can't get a new cheap rate it seems...0

I attempted to sign up for a new (variable) deal last week but like someone who posted earlier (sorry - too many posts to read through and I can't find who now!) I didn't get the email confirmation. Having read the posts by chrisw2k above, plus others comments (and looked at the prices available from competitors) thought I'd try signing up for a fixed deal this morning as if a new customer - expecting to get booted out of the process at some point... However, I was able to go through it all, and had a confirmation email of a new fixed deal tariff (10p/day; 12.something unit rate) to start on 21st June. The email sent says that the tariff ends on the 21st May 2021, but the price is guaranteed until 31st May 2022... Realise this means 2DDs will probably go out this month but if the switch works will still be worth it.... Will wait to see what happens next...(and will udpate here)
