Noticed there isn't much of a difference with Symbio's current tariff's
Would it therefore be wise to opt for a variable contract rather than a 12 month fixed? Apart from the obvious protection that a fixed contract offers (tariff remaining static for a the period, minus exit fees if leaving early), would anyone recommend one over the other based on their experience with Symbio?

Go fixed. Prices are going up not down at the moment. Symbios are already ridiculously cheap compared to the competitors. Even if competitors went down it would unlikely be lower than what you are paying symbio currently. At least then you are assured of 12 months at a certain rate.allowit said:Noticed there isn't much of a difference with Symbio's current tariff's

Also, have a look at the other symbio thread regarding their variable rate, it has changed a few times, so it's not like neon reefs aqua one which remained the same for a couple of years before recently going up. The less you have to communicate with symbios customer services the better your experience will be, so I would strongly suggest taking the cheapest fixed rate and paying by a fixed or seasonal fixed direct debit, and submitting meter readings monthly. Just my opinion though.5 -
Regardless of supplier I'd caution against variable given that prices have risen, likely to continue rising in the near future, not a crystal ball owner btw, just my thinking.
An advantage to going fixed with Symbio is that your contact with "customer services" should be minimal for that period.Obviously the £30 exit fee needs working into whatever comparisons your making though.
Many moan quite a lot, usually with considerable justification about Symbio yet don't leave for another supplier, that tells it own story, imho.

Time to take the leap of faith and join Symbio!0 -
😱😱😱 I really do hope you are joking! 😱😱😱allowit said:Time to take the leap of faith and join Symbio!
I got out unscathed when this company were just BAD. And, despite all the plaudits about it being the cheapest, got a better (fixed) deal with a proper energy company. Since then Symbio have, by all accounts (almost) become ABSOLUTELY DIABOLICAL!
There is no doubt in my mind that this company are shortly to be seriously brought to book for their astonishing parasitic and predatory behaviour. Symbiosis? - what a joke! (Spoken as a time-served biologist BTW.)I'd rather be a disappointed optimist than a self-satisfied pessimist0 -
Funny you mention that, tried signing up but didn't manage to get past their email / OTP verification stage.devondiver said:

My variable tariff ends in 3 weeks and they are moving me to a ridiculous 18p/kWh tarrif. Usually I look on their website at the current tariffs and just switch to the cheapest, but all of the tariffs listed expired on 31st May! Do they actually have any tariffs available any more?? Obviously no-one picks up the phone ever.

I have just managed to get through to Symbio and discuss the new rate they are dropping me onto on 1st July which is a 17.1pkWh/22p day standing charge.DragonQ said:My variable tariff ends in 3 weeks and they are moving me to a ridiculous 18p/kWh tarrif. As per some others in the forum, I used a prior link to pick an existing customer tariff, but I never received a confirmation email.
Long and short, I have been told, the new (variable B3.5) plan is the best one for me and they will not be moving me onto any another tariff. There are apparently no fixed or variable plans that are available to me and I will not be able to pick any of the tariffs available to new customers. I pushed him on this a number of times and he would not budge.
He also told me they have intentionally remove the link to existing customer tariffs in the reminder emails.
I got the agent to raise it as a complaint for all the good it will do, but looks like its switch time for me.
