I often freeze buns/scones/similar that are "Not suitable for home freezing" (mainly because I bought them on the BB date and want them to keep at least a couple more weeks!). But: Chocolate mousse pots. Although it does freeze and defrost, it shrinks, so the container looks only 3/4 full. Also some yoghurts don't seem to defrost right -- watery, slightly odd taste. Live and learn!

Made a special trip to Aldi to buy some Peruvian Mandarin & ginger dark chocolate that my Mum likes (she's usually in a care home but is in hospital currently).
    But they didn't have any.
Compromised and bought some dark orange & almond and some ordinary 70% dark.

Bought a nice aubergine for 59p - will do a moussaka.

Just out of curiosity I bought a jar of oregeno from Lidl and weighed it as it was only 35p, it was the correct amount.  Don't know why they don't put more in or get a jar to match, as no other shop has oregeno half full.

At least I have a jar now labelled oregeno and will look to top it up from larger bags of it.

I was in Aldi yesterday and looked at the jars of oregano - they seemed to be reasonably full.

Probably because they are smaller jars. 11 grams for 49p

    I didn't realise they did 2 sizes.
The ones I looked at were 11 grams.

Aldi jars have definitely shrunk over time. I compared this paprika with what's on the website. Today it's 40g. The old one in the photo is 50g. 🤔 I've been buying one off herbs and spices from Sainsburys as I like the own brand screw top jars. Then I refill from Aldi or Lidl. I like a jar I can fit a teaspoon into.

The Aldi dog pate trays has changed design and so have the ingredient  (with no prior warning on the label). 10% less meat and added sugars, not good!

Getting back to oregano that someone posted about. I looked at them in Lidl this morning out of curiosity. They were 7.5 grams for 35p. I suspect the weight may have been higher in the past and they have kept the same size jars, as they were literally half full.

On the subject of spice refills, I usually buy in bulk from large Asian supermarkets. Am now running low on a couple and will gladly be buying in small amounts at relative expense because there is no such thing as social distancing in the Asian supermarkets I frequent(ed). No meal is worth catching COVID for, give me a bland sandwich any day.
Going off topic with the thread. The big four have Asian/ethnic sections and have bags of the dried herbs and spices. Maybe on offer as it’s the start of Ramadan a fortnight today
Goody, I shall buy a load of Bombay Mix if its on offer
