Good and Bad Buying at Lidl and Aldi (***Please don't expire***)

The herbs are sold by weight rather than filling the jars. You could take them out and weigh them. 🤔0

Boxes of Corn Flakes are exactly the same, the actual contents would fit in a box half the size when you buy them but trouble is that they fill the box to the brim when being packed.Miró said:
Yes! I complained at the till and was told it's due to 'settling'.....ha!!rhcp said:Does anyone buy the little jars of oregeno from Lidl? They are always half empty, i'm not sure whether they are supposed to be like this or that they always seem to have a dodgy batch.
'Settling' is a real thing and don't you forget it.......2 -
I definitely believe settling is a real thing. I haven't checked but the weight on the label of herbs tells you how much is in the jar.
What I object to is cans of vegetables like baked beans or other pulses which don't give the drained weight on the label. Many beans, including some from Lidl that we tried, are awash with sauce.2 -
The new-ish Aldi Vegan No-Meatballs and Sausages are both very nice, and also good VFM compared to similar products.
Both £1.19 - 300g (Sausages) and 360g (Meatballs).3 -
And this is helpful to a thread about buying in Lidl & Aldi because...?Pollycat said:I buy my most of my herbs and spices from an Asian or West Indian shop, but I buy large bags.Oregano usually comes from Greece when we go on holiday.I've just about finished my last lot.
... anyway ...
The Rowan Hill Multigrain Seeded Craft Bloomer loaf in Lidl (pre-wrapped rather than fresh bakery) is thick-sliced deliciousness, it challenges even a good sized toaster with its slice width, and last time I bought one it was only 89p!A good challenger even for my former favourite sliced loaf, Jackson’s Brown Bloomer which is £1.49 at Waitrose.Arch1 -
Thanks for that. What is the flavour of the sausages? I enjoy Linda McCartney's rosemary and red onion but only buy them on offer.Cornucopia said:The new-ish Aldi Vegan No-Meatballs and Sausages are both very nice, and also good VFM compared to similar products.

One of our vices is thick sauce, we stick to Branston beans which can still be had in multipacks at sensible prices from the likes of B&M or Home Bargains.maman said:I definitely believe settling is a real thing. Are they chilled or frozen, and what is the main ingredient please?Cornucopia said:The new-ish Aldi Vegan No-Meatballs and Sausages are both very nice, and also good VFM compared to similar products.

Funnily enough we switched from Branston partly because of rising prices and also the extra sauce. Our current favourite is Waitrose own brand. I'd like to buy Aldi or Lidl on price but have tried and didn't like them much.harz99 said:

The sausages are quite herby in taste. The pack actually says rosemary and red onion.maman said:
