(((Hugs))) for ATB, Frodders and Fayolle's DD.
Wishing The Mortgage Away, I wish I knew how to deal with an OH's clutter. Mine's exactly the same about boxes. The box for the new, cheap as chips, kettle got sent up to the loft a few weeks ago .... The other things OH hoards are tools and wood. Everywhere wood can be stored in this house, we've got it. Not a single stick or plank of it has ever been used. Occasionally I put my foot down and get rid of a huge pile of boxes and bits of wood. The world doesn't end, he knows it, I know it, we both know it, and then the kettle box and another offcut ....
I, on the other hand, finally took five paintings down to the auction rooms today. Two came back (fortunately ones I could live with) because they're out of fashion, but the auctioneer took the three I really, really didn't want, and a few smaller things. There's some follow-up to be done on them which I've done and now he's got to do his part. This is about Letting The Past Go. Just because my parents gave me beautiful things doesn't mean I have to keep them. It's taken me decades to do what I did today and tomorrow I'll start thinking about what else I might have had buried in the attic for so long I've forgotten about it. I'm not sure how Marie Kondo deals with 'duty keeps' but I'm done with that phase of thinking in my life.
As every stage of this clearout happens I'm finding it easier to keep on top of the day to day stuff. It's very liberating.Better is good enough.0 -
Thanks Honey Bear. Little by little I will tackle this mountain. We will have a nice home to live in. We will not move with the clutter.Outstanding mortgage: £23,181 (December 19)

Funny about blokes keeping stuff, DH finds it hard but I absolutely refuse to have clutter in the house. His sheds are another matter and when he wants to do anything he can never find the right tool but he can't see how having a clear out would help!
Home from meeting, bed soon. See you all tomorrow!0 -
Lunches for tomorrow made, WM unloaded and stuck in the TD which sounds as if it's just finished. DD home from dancing and has just gone to bed. DS2 surprised me with a present, lovely glass Harry Potter coasters. He said he seen them and had to get me them, he's such a thoughtful wee soul.
Decluttering a cuppa with Vera then I'm off to bed. Night night all xI'm not a muggle...I'm just magically challenged0 -
I misjudged Himself. Got in from working late at about 8.30pm, to be faced by him stroppy about how many people he's been on the phone to today about it. His main complaint seems to be that he always did his job properly when he dealt with fault calls, so he's teed off that nobody else seems to.
An out of hours bloke turned up five minutes later, diagnosed the fault, ordered the part and reckons it'll be fitted by Thursday, but to call at 3pm to make sure it's been delivered. Himself dealt with it all the way through, rather than passing it over to me as I do the majority of the repairs and fixing here. And once he left, Himself muttered that he misjudged the last person he spoke to, as she obviously sorted it when nobody else could.
When it's done, I am going to have a long, hot bath. Washing my hair in cold water is less than pleasant this time of year.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Morning all,
Forecast is for a nice day so the washing is in ready to hang out shortly. Off to work then, got quite a list to work through. DW is about to go on again, I have my make up and favourite perfume on which makes me smile. Must get petrol on the way to work. Have fab days all xxMFW

Good morning
I’ve got lots on my list to do today, so I know I’m setting myself up for not getting anywhere near all done. I just won’t learn. Today includes grocery shopping and the market, which ensures that at least DH and I eat our full quota of f&v, some more wallpaper stripping, and sorting out the piles of gravel in the drive as a result of our snow clearance at the weekend. Did I mention flying as well?!
Another one here showing the solidarity for hoarding DHs. We have a loft, garage and shedfull of allegedly useful boxes, wood, screws - you name it. And then there are the RoD which have to have the things that can’t go in the other places. His little face when he finally unearths and uses the bit of wood that he saved 20 years ago from an old settee should make it all worthwhile, but funnily enough it doesn’t :rotfl:0 -
Morning all. I've stripped the bed and the first load of washing is doing. I'm hoping to peg it out. I've got shopping being delivered between 9 and 11 but I'm not sure what else is happening today. Might put the vacuum round downstairs although it doesn't particularly need it.0

Morning all. I'm in, better late than never. I've been lurking, but have had a few days off with DH so no flying has been done. He's back at the paid stuff today but I'm not so:
Dailies
Walk dogs
Dust LR
Hoover/sweep/mop through
Shopping
And some other stuff too, depending on how the day goes. My list in my head is long.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Keeping things because they were important to someone else or because we feel we should! A huge problem for both OH and me and made worse by the fact we currently live in a big house (old farm with loads of outbuildings some converted intoliving space some just storage). We plan to retire to our holiday home by the sea, house about half the size of here and just a single garage which is already full with beach, boat and watersports kit. Am slowly working through stuff and it does get easier. If we are never going to use it then it can go. I no longer 'keep for best' and am thoroughly enjoying using my parents 'posh china' everyday in our holiday house. Yes it gets broken but in the mean time I am enjoying it, it had sat in a cupboard for 30 years, giving no pleasure at all as I just felt it took up space, now I smile everytime I eat off it. Still have a long long way to go but heading slowly in the right direction.
Busy day at work today so won't get much flying done, but this morning
Bed stripped, partly remade
WM on (with duvet cover to go back on bed tonight)
Washing up put away from yesterday and kitchen clear
Pellet stove refilled and new bag brought in so good for a couple of days
Dirty clothes off floor and into laundry basket
Time sheets up to date, new challenge is to keep them up to date and not have a panic at the end of every month, I have 3 different ones so can become quite a task at the end of the month
Hugs to all that are struggling
xx0
