Speaking of joining motorways...
When joining a motorway, don't bother looking for a suitable gap until you're completely out of slip-lane, then get annoyed if there isn't space to merge.0 -
When joining a motorway, pull immediately into the middle lane in order to pass anyone joining the slow lane. If you're feeling brave, join the fast lane.
To be fair, I have moved into the middle swiftly upon joining, but only to avoid problems with the Muppet in front that hasn't bothered merging until the last second... And obviously only when safe to do so.0 -
If someone is going the speed limit, it is encouraged to drive as close as possible to them0

It's ok to drive in the overtaking lanes on the motorway when not overtaking as long as you are in a BMW / Audi / Mercedes or Landrover. You get that privilege for buying an expensive car.
It's ok to drive through red lights as long as they are only red for a few seconds and you floor it.All your base are belong to us.0 -
Lane markings are advisory, particularly on corners where you can save fractions of a second on your journey.0

For cyclists:
If there is a specially constructed cycle track, always use the road instead.0 -
For HGV's on motorways:
If you come up behind another HGV doing 55mph, hog the middle lane for miles, overtaking him at 56mph.0 -
On the main road approach to town which is 30mph you MUST travel at 30mph especially approaching the blind bend where traffic is often queued beyond it. These rules must especially be followed when the road is covered in snow and ice. The safety barriers on the opposite side will catch you in the event of any mishap....although hang on...no...they've all been knocked down by accidents...and not replaced because the council don't do that any more...never mind, the residents walls are still there, that should do it.
(We have heavy snow forecast later today, this will be the view from my window!)Many thanks to everyone who posts competitions and works so hard to provide all the answers!
Best wins this year so far: £100 Hobbycraft Voucher, £50 cash, GoPro Camera0 -
if you drive an HGV please never be concerned about the 50 mile restrictions through road works and smaller lanes. Its far better to cause an major accident driving too close then at least the road will be closed and empty for you0

If someone honks their horn or flashes their lights at you, or makes any other gesture, they've got a real problem, and there's nothing wrong with your driving, your car, or the road ahead of you. You should ignore them, or give a dirty look or 'gesture' back.Speaking of joining motorways...

And similarly - in rush hour traffic, just ignore the entire sliproad, they just put that there for fun. Go the the very start of it, stop with your indicator on, and wait for someone to stop and let you in. The queue behind you will understand.
Some have touched on this one - it's OK, you're doing the speed limit (at least I think it is) and those people will just have to wait. Don't move over 1 or 2 lanes, you'll just encourage speeding. You pay your 'road tax', you've as much right to be here as they do!
Just keep it between the lines and don't hit anything - that's the bare minimum you need to do, and it's enough.
Taxis - do whatever the **** you like. Especially if you have a fare to pick up. If you're booked for the outside lane of the M1, that's where you damn well wait. Other drivers can go around, or wait. Your passenger is the most important thing.
Temporary speed limits aren't real! Nobody follows them!0
