Towser,
£114.70 on healthcare. Suggest reading this on Prescriptions and medications. (Link) (Link2)
Shopping. Consider making more food from scratch. For example, if you buy a tomato pasta sauce in a jar replace it more cheaply with some tomato passata, some mushrooms and some basil. Waste no leftovers. Practically everything can be frozen. So even if you only have two tablespoons of chilli leftover freeze it; you can have it on toast for a lunch later on. Don't throw away milk, freeze it and bake with it later. Cheese can also be frozen.
McDonalds. Download the McDonalds App to get loyalty points, discounts and freebies.
Fakeaways. I recommend asking your library to order you "The Takeaway Secret: How to cook your favourite fast-food at home" by Kenny McGovern. We make our own KFC. It takes a while to prepare but less time than driving there to collect it.
Cooking. Turn the hob/oven/grill off for the last 5 mins of cooking. If you do this once a day for a year you will save the equivalent of 30 hours cooking time. Also, and I think this is a Foxgloves tip, when you boil a kettle put any surplus hot water in a flask to use later.
Electric alarm clocks. Turn these off at the wall during the day.
Logs. If you are able to collect wood by car put an advert out in the wanted section of Freecycle or Gumtree offering to collect wood from anyone who doesn't want it. When we had a real fire we would collect wood from the local beach and fallen twigs from the local forest, dry it and burn it.
Cash withdrawals. If possible withdraw cash only from free ATMs or inside branches.
Retail. Post wants on Freecycle before buying particularly.
Ink Cartridges. I have recently stopped buying ink, which keeps drying up before I've used it. I print at my local library for 10p a shot. Also, you can exchange your used cartridges for Tesco Clubcard points.
Repairs. Try to repair things that break before throwing them away and replacing them. It'a amazing what spares you can find. Everything from components for Thermos flasks to haberdashery items. Look on YouTube for How To Fix videos.
Tips List. Explore the
MONEY MAKING AND SAVING SITES AS OFTEN MENTIONED IN THIS FORUM list. (Link)
Compost. Our Council gives away compost free in Summer. You have to buy a £5 re-usable sack and then you can go as often as you like, within reason.
Advice from Foxgloves' signature Ask "Can I borrow one, make one, grow one, bake one, re-purpose or recycle, acquire it for free?" Yes? Then put that purse away & keep your money."
Car Insurance. Suggest reading. (Link) Third party isn't always cheaper than Fully Comp. Legitimately changing your job title can also reduce the cost. (Link) Obviously, you can't claim to be a Preacher if you are a Bank Manager but someone who nurses children might find it cheaper to change their job title from Nurse to Paediatric Nurse at their next renewal. Also, if you are using Insurance Comparison sites they don't all search every insurer. To cover them all you need to use:
* MoneySupermarket
* Confused
* GoCompare and
* CompareTheMarket
and then
* Check Aviva and DirectLine separately as they won't appear on the comparison sites
and then
* See if you can get cashback on your Insurance through TCB or Quidco
and then
*Haggle directly with the company
and then
*Go make yourself a cup of coffee :coffee: and have a lie down.

Yes, I did! And I never win anything as a rule :rotfl:
Had a visit this morning from an old friend who moved to France a few years ago. Lovely to see her (and her OH) but they are feeling unsettled and uncertain what to do given the current situation
Apart from that:
HG cooked fruit for breakfast instead of bought fresh fruit
Housework (OH helped :A)
Made a GP appointment for annoying symptoms / pain - not till 25 February, so hopefully they will have gone by then and I can cancel it! Will review and make an 'emergency'appointment if they persist / get worse.
Nothing spent, all food from home
Took some new items to sales unit
Stove lit and kettle on for 'free' tea and washing up water later
And I need to pack some ebay items that must be posted tomorrow!0 -
I thought I had posted this morning, evidently I'm mistaken.
Congratulations 1luckylady, the first I knew about my win a year or so ago was when the vouchers arrivedFashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent
79.5 coupons rolled over 4/75.5 coupons spent - using for secondhand purchases

Morning guys
penultimate day of my 8 off.... Today I really need to focus my attention as have a lot of things to do - well not a lot but a couple of important tasks that will take considerable time.
I've been fairly productive since getting up:
* tidied up the kitchen - it was a bomb now it isn't
* read newsletter
* booked a craft session via newsletter for half term
To do:
* fill in job application. Ideally I would like to have this finished today. I'll do a couple of hours during the day and continue tonight
* quick shower
* cut out fabric
* take pup for a walk
* stop at the library
* go to sm and do a biggish shop
* bake cake with madam after school
* make a batch of chilli for work at the weekend....
* get money out for hair tomorrow. It's £50 for a cut and colour and I have it done probably every 4 months so pretty low cost
Ok I better go jump in the shower!DF as at 30/12/16

Morning all,
I have to go out to a meeting tonight, so will need to prepare for that & don't have much of a job list for today. Frugal things will be:
*Wear lots of layers to keep the downstairs heating minimised.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Broccoli & cheddar pesto from freezer with spaghetti on meal plan.
*Do final load of laundry for this week & move stuff around heated airer to minimise drying time.
*Decide what to do this weekend. Need a town & city centre visit & could also do with visiting friends & the yellow & blue Swedish emporium. Also have gig tickets for Sun night so could do with making plans.
*Continue knitting b-in-law's socks (have already talked about my 2019 stash knitting challenge on my dfw diary, so shan't repeat it all).
Ok, time to give the kitchen it's daily morning tidy & sort out, then must thaw birdbath, make a froggy hole in the pond ice & fill up bird feeders.
We didn't get any of the snow & sleet showers expected here, but it is extremely icy so my birdy friends will be ravenous.
Stay warm all.

Excellent deal here:

I would buy it but I just don't have a suitable garden for cane fruit. Too many trees (rented property so I can't do anything about it)
