It's not "your thread", it is there for anyone to read and I hope that the information people are posting is of use to others. You may not like the answers you're getting but that doesn't make them wrong, or sabotaging.

It is absolutely the driver's responsibility to "untangle this odd [but perfectly well explained] rule". You may believe the rule has no reason to exist other than catching out honest motorists to generate revenue but you're wrong. It is TFL's responsibility to act IN GOOD FAITH and allow people to pay for entering the congestion zone. They do.

One simple question: why is it such a short time period to pay? And,,,, yeah, you can't come up with a single reason.

I disagree. It was the first thing that caught my eye (I've never used the site before). After the first page telling me I would have to pay, the obvious button to click is the "payments" button. Why would anyone read about the obligation to pay, shrug their shoulders and come back to it at their leisure to find out how and when to pay?

I've no need to catch you out, you've been caught out already. Not by me, by your own lack of research. You can rail against the system, deadlines and TfL all you like but I think what they ask for and the timeline they ask for it is perfectly reasonable.

Unfortunately, after initially appearing to be someone I could engage with and have a fruitful, legalistic dialogue about these issues with, it is becoming apparent to me that you are a ******* liar, clearly biased (perhaps a TFL shill), but at any rate, you can't seem to keep a grasp on the truth.... the button doesn't say "payments", it says "pay the charge".

I was not in a position to pay the charge - so it would have made NO SENSE to click that button. All the relevant information, any normal person would assume, would be on that information page.

But again, I can't really argue with you if you keep bending the facts. So ... I dunno ... I'm starting to think you might just be a garbage person. Sorry - but please, if you are going to post - at least do so honestly

:rotfl: And there we have it. The predictable response to answers not liked.

And as has been pointed out, the button IS clearly marked "Congestion charge payments". It does not say "pay the charge". I hope that helps you grasp the truth.

I'm amazed you are able to work this forum and complicated things like quoting, given your professed internet inexperience.

I can. It's because they want to set that deadline and not leave it open longer, perhaps to make sure they get their money in a timely fashion and to reduce the likelihood of drivers forgetting to pay.

Single reason? There are two for you.

No, the link to the right that says "Congestion Charge payments" - the one that's the single most obvious source of information as to how long you have to pay after entry.

But I think I might have missed your answer on how long you think SHOULD be available to pay?

you have no argument, and you have no legitimacy, and you have no business on the internet
After reading the responses from yourself especially the ones on this page, this post is really funny.
You have absolutely no understanding of irony.
People on here have correctly pointed out your mistakes but you refuse to accept sound advice and abuse members.

But you are right I have no business on the internet and shall immediately delete all of my web based activities ;):p

Likewise, Tarambor, treboeth, and Shaun From Africa, you have obnoxiously chosen to ignore my complaint and instead strawman my complaint.
I haven't ignored your complaint, I don't agree with it.

IT IS YOUR DUTY AS A DRIVING LICENCE HOLDER TO ENSURE THAT YOU ARE UP TO DATE ON ALL REQUIREMENTS, LEGAL OR OTHERWISE THAT THAT INVOLVES. Your responsibility, nobody else's. You failed in that duty. You've been driving for a long time, there have been a lot of changes over the years, it is up to YOU to keep up to date. Driving lorries we have had several changes to drivers hours regulations in respect to breaks and duty times over the last decade and even as recently as 4 years ago there were major changes to the speed limits on single and dual carriageways for HGVs. All of those are our responsibility to make sure we're up to date and if you tried to take driving breaks under the old rules and got caught "I didn't know, nobody told me and I don't have internet access" would not be a defence. The Traffic Commissioner would say you had been derelict in your duty to make sure you're up to date.

There is no conceivable reason for TFL to make this period 30 hrs, rather an 2 or 3 days, other than to catch people visiting the city out and reach into their pockets and steal their money.
Every automated toll system in the UK uses pay by midnight the following day. The Congestion Charge Zone does, the Dartford Crossing does, the Merseyflow Runcorn Bridge does. IT IS A STANDARD that is done to simplify things by not having everyone have different timescales. As for it being too short a period, what a load of poppycock. It is absolutely plenty of time to do something that takes 5 minutes. You could have even done it in advance of travelling if you knew you'd be going into the CC charge zone as the website allows you to pay up to 90 days in advance of a journey.

a simple arithmetic error, dear boy
Ok, I know this might be a delicate subject, so I’ll try to put this in a sensitive manner.

Someone who cannot understand that from 6pm on one day to midnight the next is not 24 hours is in quite an unusual subset of the population and has to understand that they are going to struggle with things that most people can manage.

You hopefully have someone who helps you day-to-day, so if you are going to do something out of the ordinary like this you need to ask them to help you with it.

As a society we do a lot nowadays to make life easier for people in your situation, but if you do run into something that confuses and upsets you like this you need to understand that it’s not directed at you, you just have a rare enough condition that you fall outside of normal considerations.

Try not to take it personally, and bring it up with whoever looks after you when you next see them.

The reason is simple, its to catch SIMPLE people out and get more revenue in. And as its their charge its their rules, don't like it then don't use it

    Plain and simple :rotfl::rotfl:
