Congestion Charge 24hr window - please help break this down for me!

Has anyone any idea at what kind of put down our “special” friend was aiming at with his comment about free buses up above?
I do take a bus into the square mile sometimes, but they aren’t free.
I should have just called a WAAAAHmbulance for him at the start and left it like that.0 -
One simple question: why is it such a short time period to pay?
Surely that question should be:
"Why do I think that it is such a short time period to pay?"
because going by the replies on here, no one else seems to think that a minimum of 24 hours is too short a period.
Oh, I know for a fact that Aylesbury Duck isn't a TFL shill as I've been working there for over 10 years and if they were employed in the office, I would have found out by now.0 -

So to sum up this thread; we have someone who is off to China on business, trys to pay the Dartford crossing charge but cannot because the website does not work, travels over the crossing to Gatwick, and fails to find an internet cafe within a few hours of arriving in China is charged 80 pounds simply because those who set up the website failed to program it properly.
And there are a bunch of people who think this is all hunky dory.0 -

And for the umpteenth time, it doesn't matter what you, I , OP, Uncle Bob or anyone else thinks the payment window should be, what it IS is what matters.0 -
Brilliant analysis Brian, how much clearer can it be for these people? This 24-hr payment window is a trick to catch first time users out, or those who are unable to get to an internet terminal in a short time frame.
What this window IS is a bunch of baloney, that's why I'm on this forum to test my argument and determine whether TFL is acting in bad faith, that this is a pure revenue generation trick, and that the system needs to be modified.
Now that I can see there are no compelling arguments to the contrary, I will be pursuing the matter with the authorities - watch this space.0 -
you're a bunch of keyboard warriors trying to defend the indefensible that's what you are. Now will someone please pay this? - it's just arrived today - I don't have the money

ironically they allow me 14 days to pay the penalty at the 50% off rate AND they allow me 30 days to pay the penalty outright. Such a shame they can't be consistent on these issues....0

Why is that ironic???
My local supplier of farm parts has the following terms:
Pay on the day 10% discount
Book on account and pay by 25th of next month pay full invoice cost
Pay following month is invoice +5%
Then +5% for each subsequent month up to 3 months
This happens in quite a few industries.
You may call me simple but I have used all 3 of the charge types mentioned in this thread, but have never been fined on any of them. So if a simple farmerboy can do it, I'd think most others can.
BTW good luck arguing with them, but doubt you'll get anywhere seeing as the vast majority of people can grasp it0
