I made a cowboy pie this week. I bet it would be a hit with the LOs. Essentially it's- Tin of baked beans
- A meat of your choice (I had turkey but any bits of left overs would do - you could even add other types of beans if you wanted to make it veggie)
- Onions
- Any other bits of veg you want to sneak in
- Fry up in a pan. Add some bbq sauce/ketchup/general bits of flavouring
- Top with mash and cheese and bake like a shepherd's pie until bubbling (about 45 mins in a hot oven)
Thanks CarrieLovesFanta - that sounds sooo comforting. Will do that tomorrow as don't have any beans(!) but my kind of comfort food.Jan GC £267.47/280, Fuel:£40.60/£40; Cafes: £28.35!!/£20, NSD: ?/20

Welcome Shakeitoff and NewlyFrugal
Happy birthday Ally - hope your dw is feeling better soon
Foxgloves, fingers crossed for good news for you and Mr F.
HK, I'm off to investigate fitted sheets folding after this!
:waves: to all!
Another day cleaning at other house, so I'm cold and tried and grumpy, definitely not feeling the love! I don't mind when we go in and re-decorate/straighten up between tenants normally but this last one's kids have been allowed to run riot :mad: Anyway I must focus on the positivity instead so...
Todays list
* both kids had ys bread with there eggs for breakfast
* both kids to school on the school buses so no petrol used
* whilst continuing the clear up round the other house I've claimed 74p, a fabric lunch bag that might be better then ds1s current one and a lamp shade to replace one of mine that has started to break
* ran two loads on the quick 30 degree wash
Still to do
* check banking/update spreadsheet and email it back to myself Done
* sort washing so that I can put things on the radiators that are going to go on shortly Done
* finish off the meatballs and pasta with ds1 (ds2 at a friends for tea so they're be enough for me and ds1) and dh has said he'll just have a jacket spud later Done
* make families lunches for tomorrow Done
* check emails, make sure I'm not missing anything important! Done and it reminded me to take meter readings
* renew library books as I've not had chance to read them this week at all! Done
That will do for now! Have a good evening all.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Evening all
Nice to see new people and returnees (if that is a word!)
Happy Birthday Ally, hope you had a nice day
Fingers crossed for Mr F's job - been there
CLF, liking the cowboy pie idea, might steal that
BB, we paid off our mortgage early - little bits, big bits, whatever we could afford. No regrets - it meant we could both afford a frugal semi retirement at 60, and none of us knows how long we have, do we? The only proviso we came across was to ensure that overpayments are within what is allowed by the mortgage company.
Anyway, today's small wins:
HG cooked fruit from freezer for breakfast instead of bought fresh fruit
DD round because poor little GS had to have 4 injectionsHer dad went with her for moral support, as her OH was at work
Big bag of ebay parcels posted
RM surveys stuff
Posted off some used printer cartridges to a local charity. No idea what they do with them, but it is part of a fundraising appeal, and rather that than throw them in the bin!
Bought bits off my list from the cheap shops in town, Poundstretcher and the like. Much cheaper than the supermarkets, just need to make the effort to go to the town centre
Collected prescription, crossed off my frogs list
All spends logged
Checked banks
Made fishcakes for dinner with some leftover mashed potato, a couple of YS salmon fillets that have been in the freezer for ages, parsley from the garden and a few capers. Yummy, and there are enough for tomorrow as well
Kettle on stove for free tea when it boils0 -
1LL I never thought I would ever hear myself saying this but there is a certain satisfaction with a neatly folded unruly fitted sheet..........took me a few attempts but the effort was worth itDecluttering challenge 2023🏅⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Morning everyone
last day of my 6 x 12 hour shifts over 7 days. So glad that there's 12 hours between me and 8 days off :j
Not much small things been going on for me this week, for obvs reasons but highlights are oh's MOT only cost £57 :j, inlaws going on holiday so gave us 2 bags of food, one of which was frozen stuff. Enough for a week's meals :T (this is crazy giving us this but who are we to turn down?!)
Today:
* update & submit expenses
* read newsletter
* all meals from stores
* write a small list and stop at sm on way home. Take bag with me. Since Jan we are averaging £30pw on groceries using up stores & muscle food delivery. I definitely think it is worth it. It came 23/11 and we still have some left
* check onepoll
* charge phone at work
* watch a couple of sewing tutorials
* read book tonight
* order sewing pattern
Ok that's all. Have a good day x

Morning all!
Happy birthday Ally, your trip out in the fresh air sounds great! Hope DW better.
Cowboy pie going on my list to try clf, with veggie sausages! Am another inspired by the folding lessons for fitted sheet HKwill report back!
Fingers crossed fg for DH. Lots of uncertainty in my workplace too atm. It’s draining.
Been wfh all week as still unwell. Turning a big corner yesterday and today though. No painkillers overnight and feeling a lot less bleugh today. Was up early today pottering but nothing urgent in my inbox so just having a hot bath to ease the shoulders which hurt from all the coughing before I begin properly. A moment of calm, using Xmas bath salts etc!
Little things for the day:
Lodger helping with a two person task later today. Will be a ten min job with two but is a immovable frog alone! Will help get one of my rooms a bit more sorted with knock on benefits elsewhere.
Will return something to shop today, should be a ten pound return and short walk out of house. Pay to cc.
Lights and sockets off. Hwb not heating until others are back.
Plan travel and appts carefully for next week, a bit of dashing around the country to do.
Got a few conversations about possible work directions tomorrow to prep for.
B,L,D from stores. Finally got appetite back! Continue to explore use it up box!
Holding on for washing machine until more detergent comes in first ever Oc. delivery on fri. They had a 30% off coupon so have loaded up on heavy/expensive/bulk staples (also brexit-proofing!).
Do expenses claims
Make plan for work trip next month to enable seeing friends at same time!
Good luck all!0 -
Happy birthday Ally
Foxgloves, got everything crossed for you and your OH. Hope it was good news:)
Update from yesterday:
- all meals and snacks from stores - done, supper was leftover chicken stir fried with a can of water chestnuts past their bb date, was yummier than I’m making it sound, promise!
- bike to work AM - done, my goodness it was fresh
- gym AM to use the membership - done
- write to/ring grandparents - letter written, will pop in post box today
- empty all house bins & put wheelie bin out - done
- one cleaning job – dusting/hoovering/bathroom/kitchen floor - swept the kitchen floor and did some decidedly half-a**ed dusting, but more than none
- polish brown boots – polish applied and soaking in, poor thirsty boots
- go to bed on time – better than Monday night but still later than planned
- no alcohol – erm, not done. Silly thing is I didn’t hugely enjoy my drink once I had it. Lesson there perhaps!
Today's list:
- all meals and snacks from stores (might need to buy sugar for marmalade experiment though)
- Doctor’s AM
- gym AM to use the membership
- post letter
- one cleaning job – dusting/hoovering/bathroom/kitchen floor
- polish brown boots
- put no-knead bread on for tomorrow
- travel clinic online form
- research draft excluders. OH thinks we need to buy a fancy”decent” one asap. I have pointed out we have a large and fluffy dog who likes to lie across the bottom of the door, but apparently a mobile draft excluder isn’t sufficient.
- go to bed on time0 -
Morning all
Thinking of you Foxgloves
Very cold here this morning, hard frost but quite sunny now, so it might turn out to be a nice dayIt was
Hope so, as I have a large bed cover in the washing machine. I spilt something on it, so hoping the stain comes out.
Slow start this morning - I think this is such a depressing time of the year! Today's list:
HG cooked fruit from freezer with breakfast instead of bought fresh fruit (we eat a lot of fruit one way and another, so this is a significant saving). Done
Washed hair and letting it dry naturally (though I won't be venturing outside until it is properly dry, as I have had frozen hair before, and it is not nice :eek: Done
All food will be from home Done
Need to do a proper shop later, Lidl and Sainsburys Done
There are enough HM fish cakes left for dinner again today, so not much cooking neededDone
Might make scones or a cake thoughMade cheese scones and lemon drizzle cake
Put seed potatoes in an egg tray in bedroom window to sprout Done
Hyacinths are now dead, so need planting out. They sometimes grow back another year, sometimes not. Worth giving them a chance, but will need to wait till the soil thaws out. Done, planted them in new raised bed under the quince tree that we rehomed there
OK, better get on!0
