    Hi January Joy-Seekers,

Morning!:coffee: Lots of time to fill today.

    Debt-Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Four:

    * Check online banking. Done.

    * Continue my Challenge 500 miles challenge to travel 500 miles for free before the end of 2019: walking, hiking, climbing, cycling, running and swimming. Will walk today. Done.

    * Consume some homemade goats' cheese. Done.

    * Follow ice hockey match online for free tonight. In progress.

    * Do the Big Garden Birdwatch again which is running until 28th Jan. It's free. Nope.

    * Visit local RSPB reserve. Yup. We have invested in an RSPB subscription. In the long run, we will save money.

    * Price a dehumidifier. Ongoing.

    * Try to find momentum to tidy out our storage cupboard. DW has been in there. Nope.

    * Get quotes to repair my camera. Although DW has lots of fancy ones which I can use when I like I have my own wee compact camera which I love and it has spots on the sensor which means every photo has dalmatian spots on it and has to be 'photoshopped'. Have emailed for two quotes. And then...I started looking for alternative solutions. Came across a YouTube video in which a guy suggests using a vacuum cleaner to remove the internal dust without taking the camera apart. (Link) This is risky but I decided to try it, and, Holy Smurf, it worked! Just saved myself £30-£40. I 'only' paid £100 for the camera four years ago so £30-£40 would be a lot of money. :exclamatiIf you decide to try this it's at your own risk.

Use last of Christmas meat in a free to us roast
    HM pudding using what’s in
    Homework
Sort through one box of stuff
    Packed lunches for tomorrow
Use last of a jar of homemade jam on a hm scone, got in all the corners for no waste
    Plan what I’m doing tomorrow
    Go for a run
    DH to gym
Double check meal plan, it’s a bit vague at the moment

Have a good day folks. Purps.

    Morning all,

Its lovely blue sky here at the minute but we've had rain and hail in the last hour so its a bit of a strange start to the day.

Clf, hope you're feeling less groggy now.

    Todays small things
    * ys bread for toast done
    * make families lunches for tomorrow done
    * made stock last night, just need to reduce it down now as theres a lot on the hob as I type
    * make sure kids are up to date with homework and bedrooms tidy
    * my dads working on rental house again but told me to have a day off :) so will make sure I feed him lunch and send him home with something they can just reheat for their tea. done and done
    * clean kitchen using stardrops, this has saved lots of money since I heard about it on this thread years ago now.
    * washing on radiators ready for when they're switched on later (keeping off as long as possible, dh is in a t shirt at the minute so no chance I'll put it on yet!) done
    * triage fridge done
    * film from our stash with the kids later
** made welsh cakes, same recipe as always but its just not cooked right hmmm taste ok at least!
Thats my starter, hopefully I'll get more done
Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

    Morning all :)
Early trip to a local market (ostensibly to look for things for my business, but found very little) but did buy bargainous bacon, sausages and butter :)
    Have taken dog out
And now have a casserole bubbling away in the SC, and a chilli on the stove :) Used up various bendy vegetables :DHad chilli for dinner (fed 3 today) and there is enough for another meal for OH and I :)

Casserole is massive - will freeze some, if only I can find enough room in the freezers :o

Cold but sunny, may wrap up and do a bit in the garden this afternoon
Planted some strawberries in the new 'veg trug' lookalike that OH made :)

Planted various things in the new raised bed - spent hyacinths that had been indoors on the windowsill (which may or may not regrow, they usually seem to), garlic chives, marjoram under the quince tree, some more strawberries, a few chard plants transplanted from main raised bed, now full as I planted shallots around part of the edge yesterday :) Sounds a bit of a strange mixture, but I planted what I had, and can always replace / move later. I am trying a cottage garden approach with flowers, fruit, herbs and veg all growing together as opposed to rows of things - though I will probably still have some rows.

Hope you all have a good day :)

    Evening all,
    This weekend's money saving activity:
*Grocery shopping came in on budget. Good start to the month.
*Signed up for a Morrison's loyalty card. We're not in there all that often, but it all adds up. Used the welcome voucher for 100 extra points.
*Free entertainment doing the Big Garden Bird Count.
*Picked parsley from our herb bed - it's still growing quite lushly.
*Withdrew a lump sum of money for all the cash-cenred parts of our February budget.
*Traded a box of old CDs & books with Ziffit.
    *Knitted.
*Visited my parents' house for more clearing & planning - brought back quite a bit of stuff which I will sort out tomorrow.
*Took lunch with us, so as not to be tempted into popping out to a cafe or pub - helpful on two counts, as it meant we had more time to do the sorting & clearing we had travelled down to do. 150 mile round trip, so every visit has to count.
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Load washer for overnight laundry on Economy 7 tariff.
*Took family birthday gifts south with me today to hand over (early) in person, rather than pay postage.
*'Rainforest personal seller' offered a discount on the incorrect edition of the item he supplied to make up for the damaged box, etc, but we will decline because it is pretty obvious it's been opened & has probably been a return from someone else which has been sent out again. As I did not come upstream on a water biscuit, we are still insisting on a refund.
I think that's it. Feeling tired now & intend to do nothing more energetic than reading my book tonight.
    Love to all,
    F xx

My challenges to reduce my spend:

    2. groupon for grooming, charity shop for clothes - Clothing & Grooming
    3. Entertainment & Leisure- make more use of mc donalds as it is cheap
    4. Household Bills & Utilities- find more wood for logs, shop around for best deal
    5. Cash Withdrawals-less takeaways, cook more, nails- learn to do my own.
    6. Childcare & Education- can't cut down
    7. Retail (Other) use the tip Re-Use shop more rather than the expensive charity shops.
    8. Motoring Expenses -tax, insurance can't cut down
    9. Home & Garden - use the tip Re-Use shop more rather than the expensive charity shops.

If you could show me more ways to cut down I'd love to hear from you.

    Good Evening All

Where has this week gone? For us it's been a bit up and down but definitely feels like things are improving

    Highs
DS had an interview for the course he really wants to do and was offered a place immediately the interview had finished - so proud and pleased

Meal out with hubby's brother and sisters - great to get together but can get a bit lively when all together (10 of us)

The cough/cold is finally clearing, although has left me breathless in this cold weather

    Lows

Another trip to Drs and more medication :(

Have managed lots of small things and no spend days - easy when you don't leave the sofa :rotfl: and lots of reading.

Enjoy the rest of your evening and weekend, it's a bit lively here as our local team is on TV so I may have to escape to bed with my latest book.

    Catch you all tomorrow.

  • Dinner at mine tonight for a friends birthday which is coming up this week. Managed to scrub together from stores / the last delivery things I knew we all liked and tried to make it a bit special. My herb oil from a few days ago worked well on baked mushrooms; use it up hard chocolate for hot chocolate worked well instead of high quality plain chocolate for the cake! Regifted vouchers for present as I know they will enjoy them. The not-quite-the-end of the Xmas cheese added another course. Home made hummus was easy but didn’t taste that great —added too much tahini I think. Might try diluting it down with more chickpeas tomorrow. Would like to be able to make reliably :) At the start of the day I was anticipating heading out for bits and bobs to add to the meal, but time ran away from me... and so probably saved about 15 quid by not doing so! Lots of leftovers for tomorrow. :)
Other little things: wm on for cheaper tarried overnight
Hearing turned down as suspect will have it on more with more folk coming and going this week.
