A **2lb** loss this week for me.

For me it's a gradual increase since hitting mid 40s, not loads to lose but enough to make me feel uncomfortable. Have always eaten fairly healthy and exercised. Can lose the weight when focus but haven't found the balance yet to keep it off. So Weight up and down. Weight used to fall off me when stressed a few years ago but now find self reaching for food when stressed.

Rejoined gym recently and feel so much better for it when go regularly, but again go through phases, bit all or nothing, need to work on balance here too.

Average steps in last week 18731 daily, up from previous week. Another one who weighs daily. X

    Evening

Cranky I did have a oh s@#t moment when I weighed on the 2nd January

I lost 4 stone 6 years ago and swore never to put it on again  unfortunately within a 4 month period I lost my mum, had surgery and was made redundant and turned back to food again :o and slowly over the last 4 years it has all crept back on. I have had an under active thyroid for 10 years and the beginning of last year it wobbled a bit and the last stone returned  I envy people who just see food as fuel and can put their knife and fork down because they're full. It doesn't help that I enjoy cooking and living alone I then have to eat what I cook

i started again last July once the thyroid settled again luckily without increasing my meds, I'm 2 stone lighter, I just need to keep the momentum going

B - usual porridge and fruit
L - repeat of yesterday's HM minestrone soup
    D - 2 boiled eggs and soldiers :)
    S - 1 shortbread biscuit and grapes

Thank you for sharing Pollybear, I think lots of us eat for emotional reasons .I know I eat when I’m unhappy or feeling insecure and having a strict word with myself doesn’t often work at these times. I too have lost a lot of weight twice before so I know I can do it. Going to ‘fat club’ doesn’t help me because I know the effort I put in to lose one pound and I see others losing 2and 3 pounds and I get really disheartened. So this time I’m not rushing and I’m not blaming myself when I lapse - I’m just going to keep at it and join in on this thread where everyone is so supportive. It would be lovely if you join us too as you must have a lot of experience having lost big amounts of weight .

Best idea yet to not blame ourselves. There are reasons why we don't take care of our bodies and mine comes down to lack of self worth. I am so much better than I used to be but still need more work. It's the idea of myself being worth the extra effort of eating well, exercising and focusing on myself as a valuable human. If you're brought up to think that spending time on your own needs is selfish then you don't learn to put in the time and effort required to maintain good health and good self esteem.

What I do understand now is that I can change this if I try. Just lately I have been getting into bed and saying to myself that my health is my most precious possession and I am worth the effort of treating myself with respect and as my own best friend. I wouldn't speak to a friend the same way I talk to myself sometimes and I would admire someone who took the time to treat themselves to good food, exercise and proper rest.

I'd like to say to everyone that we are all valuable, worthwhile people who need to respect our minds and our bodies and treat them love and kindness. There is no rush as MrsLottie says. Respect grows slowly and with that our ability to know we deserve the best we can do.

    Happy Wednesday everyone. :)

I can appreciate all you are saying slowdown but I struggle with applying it to myself. It's hard to change a habit you've had for a lifetime.

Hi, I'm very late to the party but could I please join in?

I think that there are 8 weeks (ish, and I have already started trying to eat better) left to the end-of-March challenge so could you please put me down for a target of -14lb. I have a LOT more than that to lose overall but I figure it's a start and breaking it down into chunks will hopefully make it easier to stick to and less daunting than looking at the overall amount.

I've struggled with my weight since I was a kid and can definitely relate to what people are saying about eating for comfort and it being tied to self-esteem and a whole load of other things which are nothing to do with hunger. I know that I'm much happier when I'm not this heavy but keeping my weight under control is a constant battle.

I lost just over 5 stone a few years ago (I was still overweight but was happy enough at that weight) and had done quite well at keeping most of it off - I was bouncing up and down the whole time but only within about a stone - but seem to have completely lost the struggle recently. I was just over the top end of the stone I bounced around in and then I gave up smoking 6 months ago...

I put on 2 stone in 2 months and have kept starting diets to try to get back to a comfortable weight and keep managing a week or two and then failing spectacularly and putting it all, and a little bit more, back on.

I'm currently going through a very stressy time and I know that I'm drinking too much but, mostly, am being pretty good about controlling food and thought that having to write down what I'm eating, where someone else can see it, might help keep me on the straight and narrow a little bit.

Sorry for rambling away and hello all.

    Good morning all,

I've been running. The leisure centre that I go to (because it's usually fairly empty so I don't make too much of a show of myself) is in a fairly run down area. After I've run for half an hour I usually get on the exercise bike for a bit. Today the pedal fell off the exercise bike.... I'd like to think that it'll be fixed by Friday but I don't hold out much hope.

I've lost 1 lb this week. I'm really pleased with that as when I first started running last year my weight went up for 3 weeks on the trot before it started to come down again. I know your body holds water for muscle repair when you start exercising but I was also permanently hungry last time and that took a while to get to grips with. This time I seem to be making better choices.

We used to use this :( on here to record a gain, but I'd like to change it to this :o or even this :D if that's ok? I do like the green one, it makes me laugh. Any preferences please? No sad faces here any more - a gain is sometimes unavoidable, sometimes a learning experience and sometimes both but I don't think it warrants a miserable face. Forgive yourself and move on.

Slowdown I'm ok-ish with self worth but struggle making the effort just for my benefit. However, agreeing with my best mate to give up sweets and junk may have been one of the best things I've ever done. I'm keen for him to improve his health and also I'm not going to be beaten by him doing better than me at giving up eating rubbish. As motivation for healthy eating, the slightly competitive thing is working wonders :rotfl:

Take care all of you :)

    Hello All
I'm off work with ds as he is a little sore from the teeth extraction yesterday.
Started off well yesterday with porridge for breakfast. We checked in at the hospital at 12:30 but they didn't do ds op until nearly 4:30 so by the time we got home we were ravenous. I started out okay with jacket pot but then descended into 2 slices of buttered toast and lemon cake!
Today we are in all day so should be okay

    B Banana
L 2 toast (not buttered!) scrambled eggs
D pasta with ham and veggies

Hi Izadora sorry you are having a rough time, I find this group very supportive and I agree writing down what you eat makes you much more aware xx

Slowdown everything you said is so right, but I think we are all so busy in our lives with family and work, that we forget that we are people too that need thought and love and time and we can't rely on others to notice that we have to take it for ourselves sometimes

Izadora welcome - I've added you to the list. Well done for giving up smoking. I'm not good with stress either - I've also been known to treat alcohol as a coping mechanism and my best friend does this too. I'm trying to give up drinking other than possibly a G&T on a Friday night (so far, so good) but he has a very stressful job so like you he's taking one thing at a time.

SIRENS I hope ds feels better soon. No wonder you were hungry when you finally got home.

Brambling, you weren't the only one with the "Oh sh@#t" moment I promise you :rotfl:
