Weight Loss the Old Style Way Part 11

Evening everyone.
Well fresh week for me and I'm going to try real hard to stay on track, slowdown just out of curiosity I weighed myself every day for a week and it is shocking the fluctuation in weight, sometimes quite large differences from one day to the next. I decided that this could be quite unhealthy mentally for me as the disappointment of weighing in on "
'weigh day' was awful so I am back to once a week on a Monday, no matter what.
Thank you for the sts Cranky I did weigh myself today and I'm reporting in with a sts for this week.
B porridge, fruit
L lo lamb tagine and couscous, apple, cereal bar
D rice, ham, veg.
S rainbow drops.
I should be at work this week but I have a couple of days holiday as ds is having some teeth taken out at the hospital tomorrow, it is only day surgery but will be having a general anaesthetic so might be a little sore and sleepy.'You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose' - Dr Suess

It's really interesting to see everyone's different when it comes to weighing in. My first diet day was Saturday but I didn't weigh myself until Sunday. I might weigh again on Wednesday. I don't think I can wait a week but I'm not sure I can cope with daily fluctuations.
Also interesting that it is so much more than the 'eat less, move more' mentality, it's a deeper psychological conundrum. My friend today was talking about someone she knows who had a gastric band fitted. She has lost seven stone but still tries to eat things she shouldn't and is part of a post-op support group where some people have swapped food for alcohol and are now having problems with that. It seems that if we don't seek to identify the underlying habits and reasons we simply give up or substitute. I'm not sure all the causes can be addressed and rectified but they can be acknowledged for what they are.
Back on the subject of weigh ins, is it a Monday when I submit a gain/loss to the group?
Thanks0 -
Slowdown You can weigh in whatever day you choose but it would be great if everyone could choose one day and just give me their results once a week please.
My friend's daughter had a gastric band and lost weight but then she had to have it removed. She's as big as she ever was. At least doing it this way we are identifying our demons and learning to manage them or at least beat them into submission for a short while.
I'm just finishing day two of no sweets, no chocolate and no alcohol. I should be about 3 stone lighter then, yes? That's how it feels anyway. I've just been chatting to my best mate for an hour and a half as he's doing the same - no sweets, no chocolate and we've both had a fairly healthy day today. Instead of having carbs for dinner tonight I had sausages from the butcher and in my mini (one person sized)wok I stir fried onions, mushrooms, peppers and mange tout with a little bit of soy sauce. It was lovely and I didn't miss the carbs.
Brambling, I love you! I put on the same at Christmas and I don't know anyone else that did. I had a good time though :rotfl: Christmas was a bit stressful this year which didn't help.
I like that we've started to discuss the issues behind the over eating here. Whatever you all do, if you slip up and gain don't stay away. We're doing real life here, not perfect life.....
Take care all of you0 -
Evening Everyone,
I like weighing myself every day. It helps me see the differences different foods make and keeps me focussed. It's amazing how much your weight fluctuates over the day anyhow. I always weigh in first thing in a morning as I weigh several pounds more by the end of a day usually.
Lunch: 2 poached eggs on a slice of homemade sourdough toast.
Dinner: Chicken breast left over from yesterday, with a spinach, avocado, tomato, cucumber and mushroom salad.

Sorry if I'm butting in because I haven't signed up but the whole "reasons for eating" subject bothers me. You often read articles saying that such and such or so and so will stop you being hungry. For me, it's nothing to do with being hungry. It's about food and eating. I could probably eat a three course meal and still manage a family size bar of chocolate. The way I could cut down would be to leave the meal and just have the chocolate! I was forced to clear my plate when I was growing up and even now I eat the "worst" thing first so I can finish on the "best" thing. If I had any sense I'd eat the best bit first and leave the rest when I was full up. I wish I had some control. I have lost lots (and I mean lots) of weight three times in my life. So far. And every time I've put it back on, and more. This last time I lost 12 stone and I've put back 5, which obviously is better than all of it, but I could kick myself for putting myself back in the same place. It takes all my effort just to try to stay the same and maybe lose a pound or two. I feel such a failure, which is not helpful and I would never feel that someone else was a failure for the same thing but it's how I feel.
Not asking for easy answers because I don't believe there are any. I just wanted to share with anyone else who feels like I do.0 -
Thank you for sharing Pollybear, I think lots of us eat for emotional reasons .I know I eat when I’m unhappy or feeling insecure and having a strict word with myself doesn’t often work at these times. I too have lost a lot of weight twice before so I know I can do it. Going to ‘fat club’ doesn’t help me because I know the effort I put in to lose one pound and I see others losing 2and 3 pounds and I get really disheartened. So this time I’m not rushing and I’m not blaming myself when I lapse - I’m just going to keep at it and join in on this thread where everyone is so supportive. It would be lovely if you join us too as you must have a lot of experience having lost big amounts of weight .0

Evening All
I've been busy painting patches on my kitchen walls trying to decide what colour paint to buy today. I had decided on a light duck egg but having put it on am no longer sure so been trying various different shades. At the moment a light grey seems to be the favourite. Just got to get DH to agree!! The decorator is coming on Monday so I need to have bought the paint by then.
Had Pilates this morning followed by coffee then a walk with my son before he came round for lunch. He runs his own business and chooses his hours so comes for lunch quite often as his wife works Tues, Wed, Thurs. We had a good chat and then I went for a walk with a friend. She's very into decorating and has a lovely eye for colour so I wanted to pick her brains. She's lent me a tin of her paint (very expensive) to try the colour but we couldn't get the lid off so am waiting for DH to get in and lever it off.
Lunch: Homemade butternut squash soup. Piece of chicken. Shared an apple with DS
Dinner: Pork shoulder chop, half a baked potato with butter, broccoli in cheese sauce, peppers and mushrooms.
Treats: A handful of mixed nuts. 4 squares of dark chocolate.
I put on a lot of weight when DH and I first got together - thirteen years ago - and he kept treating me to chocolate, meals out etc. I lost about nearly four stone in 2011 and have kept off about 3 stone of it since. What inspired me was realising that the only major thing I would want to change about my life if I won the lottery was to lose weight - and of course I could do that without winning the lottery. I do still lapse from time to time but have found the best things that work for me is keeping temptation out of the house and using distraction when I am starting to waver.
