    Evening Everyone.

Well we woke up to snow this morning. DH had to go out early so I had a lovely snowy walk breathing in the crisp, clean air. It felt lovely - no wonder they used to send TB cases to the Swiss Alps for the air there.

Today was the usual DGD day. We went out and played in the snow and built a snow cat but it didn't last long as the weather has got steadily warmer all day. We also made gingerbread teddies together.

I've finished the doll I was knitting so the next job is to do the face and hair and start on the clothes. Should keep my hands busy.

Lunch: 2 poached eggs on half a slice of homemade sourdough - toasted.
Dinner: Chicken leg cooked in the airfryer with peppers, peas, mushrooms and half a jacket potato with butter. Mixed berries with cream
Treats: 4 squares of dark chocolate.

    Enjoy your Saturday evening everyone.

Unfortunately, a few weeks after filming, he died in his sleep due to a heart attack I think. Such a shame for him and his family.

So he never got as far as having the surgery then? Had he lost much weight before he died? I fell asleep about half way through, he was at home with his sister and weighed 70 stone then

I don't think so. When the programme finished he was still looking as big as he did at the start. At his weight though it would take months if not years to actually make a difference.

Hmmm, I am just wondering if we are talking about the same tv programme. I watched a different one on Thursday which was about a 70 stone guy whose sister cared for him. He did lose lots of weight, at the end of the documentary he was around 40 stone and was just starting to stand up on his own. It was a 2 part programme and unfortunately I missed the second part but after googling, it seems that he also died a while after having the weight loss surgery.

As I said, I watch these programmes to motivate myself as I am not far off being immobile myself. Whilst I am nowhere near 70 stone, I can truly identify with their struggles. What strikes me most though is their lack of dignity, they are filmed mostly naked and observed as though they were some sort of sub-human category. I know they are at the extreme of what a body can cope with and their personal stories of how they got there are often very sad.

When I was hospitalised at the beginning of the year, I was stunned at how far out of my comfort zone I was. I had to have a special bed and chair and wheelchair especially for the super morbidly obese. I came to see how much more work I was to the nursing staff as well as I needed three people to get me in and out of the bed as it was far too high for me to manage on my own. Every time I was pushed around in the wheelchair I was horribly conscious of the poor nurse's back and the strain I was putting them under and it was all my own fault for eating myself almost to death. I am still not out of the woods yet and thankful every time I wake up that I do wake up.

Weight loss to me is more than just wanting to look better although that does play a part, but it is about reclaiming my life, my health and my place in the world. I have opted out of this for years and years and I nearly died because of it. I may have irrevocably damaged my body after years of abuse but I will try my hardest to get a better life and if that means I have to alter fundamental parts of my diet then I will and be grateful that I still have the opportunity to do so.

Wow, this is all a bit deep, I don't sleep well and have a lot of time to think in the middle of the night. I hope you all don't mind that I 'dump' my thoughts here as it helps me a lot.

I think we are all blooming marvellous for even trying to make ourselves fitter, healthier and better.

    Good morning all,

dumpling feel free to post your feelings and thoughts. The weight gain journey had many reasons for a lot of us rather than just simple over eating so it's only to be expected that a lot of memories and emotions will be brought to the surface on the weight loss journey.

My mum used to tell me that I was fat and ugly for instance. It turned out that I had polycystic ovary syndrome so I couldn't help the fat and spotty. The ugly was because I looked like my dad and mum didn't like him much - she was sleeping with her best friend's husband from before my sister was conceived. My sister was the favourite child because mum liked to think her boyfriend was my sister's dad - he wasn't as now she is older my sister is the spitting image of my dad. Even though my sister was the favourite, mum messed with her head too by telling her when she was only 14 that she didn't know who her dad was. My sister and I are both overweight, mum died when we were 21 and 18 respectively and despite the best of mum's efforts, we are very good friends.

Anyways.....I promised my best friend last night that I would give up sweets and chocolate for the rest of this month and he will do the same, We'll play it by ear once we reach the end of this month but I think March will probably be more of the same. Eeeeek!!!

Slowdown, I'll add you to the list

SIRENS I'll put you down as a STS (stay the same) and fingers crossed for a better week next week.

Take care all of you :)

Dumpling, you must have been really worrying about yourself to be posting at 2am. I hope you managed to get some rest in the end. I really wanted to give you a hug and say keep going! it will make a huge difference to your own life and that of your family and all the lovely people on this thread are here to offer support and encouragement on your journey.
I find exercise is a part of my weight loss. I know it's not easy and can make you feel self conscious but it's nobody else's business what we look like or what we do. I like to swim as it doesn't put a strain on my joints and I like to walk too. After a period of illness I am out of condition so I'm going to walk to the pool and have a swim 3 X a week. I can do both at my own pace, listen to a podcast on the way and treat myself to a coffee afterwards.
I only need to lose a stone but this extra weight is really dragging me down, making me slower and giving me aches and pains.
I look forward to following your journey. Your courage and openess will be my inspiration.
Good luck losers! (meant in the nicest possible way)
    :)

Thank you CRANKY40for adding me to the list:)
I read your story with a sad heart. How awful to be ridiculed by those who should be your greatest champions. A truly dreadful experience. There is a body of evidence that links childhood abuse and trauma to obesity in adults. A lack of attachment is key.
However, it seems to me that you have come out the other side with a strong sibling relationship and enough self worth to make changes. Well done you. Another inspirational person whose resilience is to admired:T
    Thank you for sharing. :)
  • Delighted to report a 1lb loss. That makes a 7lb loss overall for 2019, making me below my pre Xmas weight. :j

More news, I have a job interview on Thursday for paid work (I do loads of voluntary work already). Fingers crossed.

I started exercising Easter 2017 (dance classes); losing my dad spurred me on to take better care of myself. Can't say it's helped with weight loss, however, I'm toned, have more energy and have had to take all my skirts in. I get such a buzz afterwards. Off for a walk down to the beach now, not something I could do a year ago, even though it's only 10 minutes away.

Keep up the good work all of you.

Yep, that was the same programme I was watching, he was taken into hospital before his operation I believe, and I think he'd lost weight by then and could stand, which was one of the conditions of him having weight loss surgery.

I agree with you about them always being naked, strikes me that if I was that big I wouldn't want all and sundry seeing me like that. (Not that I'd want that whatever size I was!) I realise that it must be hard to find clothes that fit but surely a discreet long t shirt type of thing would be more dignified?
