I wish house prices were this cheap down south where I live.

The OP moves on from one owned house to the the next one while Crashy sits in a rented bedsit pondering for over 25 years the imminent crash they have been waiting for.

    2 different realities.

    Pick one.

Don`t recall any mention of renting, just that the agreed sale price was 28k below the EA`s suggestion?

You might not have explicitly mentioned it, but people need somewhere to live, shelter is a basic human need so often it’s the only alternative to buying.

Yes, but it is not a given that that shelter will cost more or even the same as buying or taking on mortgage debt, some people may decide to stay with parents for example. On the other hand dropping the price to sell is a black or white choice, the seller does not have any other options, and the thread was about dropping the price to sell, not renting.
  • Very true. :)

It sold in the end for a fair price and I think I timed the reductions to enable me to achieve that.

For those that have the choice of bunking in with others or need the ability to stay flexible and mobile then not buying can be the sensible choice.

Once you are reasonably stable and can afford to buy, renting is in most cases the dum a** choose.

Even with a difficult sale the OP is making the right choice to buy again.

Maybe so, that is your opinion, but the thread was about being a dum a** and hanging on for an unachievable price V being a smart a** and dropping the price by enough at the right time. Luckily in this case the smart answer won the day.
  • Absolutely!

The thread seems to have got into the realms of buying/renting advantages.... sometimes renting is necessary, but agree if things are stable enough, then it’s better to rent.

Back to the specifics. A sale at 87.5 K and a PCM estimate from the valuation of £475-£500.

    Regards
