Brexit the economy and house prices part 7: Brexit Harder

Arguably true but none were against the EU (at the time). In fact you could argue that our engagement in the Iraq War would have been stopped if we had been more aligned with our EU colleagues who did not follow the lead of the US.
I would agree that we have done this but the EU has not made the situation better or worse. The GFC was mainly driven by US banks.
So both true then?
I did not mention or infer why or how, or apportion any blame, just mentioned that a perspective that we have had a great 40 yrs was somewhat false when you consider our recent history and the current financial situation we find ourselves in.
Similarly, if things continue to be poor and austerity runs on we cannot blame Brexit alone. I trust you are happy with that assessment as well.0 -
Not Brexit alone, but it's going to be a significant contributor. Most of the blame should be pointed to our Government though - Brexit could have been done and the damage minimized by now.0

1970 - We had a General Election and elected a Conservative Government led by the most Europhile PM we ever had (Heath) who took us into the EEC.
1975 - We had a referendum promised by Wilson on whether or not to remain. At that time the direction of the EEC was clearly towards policies of pooled sovereignty, tax harmonisation, free trade, common standards etc. Wilson told Parliament that we had a choice to make of losing some sovereignty but gaining economically. Ultimately he was right.
I repeat. When we’re we allowed a vote to join the EU?
As a remainer, it would appear that you don’t have a clue about the difference between the EEC and the EU.0 -
Talk about re-writing history. Heath took us into the EEC, Wilson gave the country a referendum. How is that selling us out.
The real changes that you do not like happened when the EU was formed in 1992. That was Thatcher's doing in negotiating the Maastrict Treaty which Major approved.
In 1975 there was great unity in all parties on Remaining. The opposition as usual were those on the far left and far right. Seem familiar?
The politicians may have known where the eec was going, especially the eec at the time, but they did not inform the general populace of this, they chose to keep it quiet in the hope that by the time people realised what was happening it would be too late.
Wilson sold us out by not actually informing us of what would happen if we remained in the eec. A trading bloc was fine, but they didn't say it was going to be a political bloc. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

The conservatives don't want to tackle poverty, they believe that poor people deserve to be poor. Your only hope is that the conservatives completely destroy themselves (as they deserve to do now).
And socialists do? You've a very blinkered view of what many people are actually like.0 -

What's actually wrong with where it's going? What would you have done differently?0 -

How will public services be worse off in the EU than outside?0 -
I refuse to accept the result of the referendum and I want another vote.0
