Thanks for giving me your permission.

The Churchill "open sea" quote is from the eve of The D Day landings when Europe was torn apart by war so hardly unlikely to be refering to a united Europe.

A better example would be from 1963 when he said “The future of Europe if Britain were to be excluded is black indeed.

His Grandson, Sir Nicholas Soames (Who probably knew him better than you or I) told The Independent newspaper “Winston Churchill was a profound believer in the values of European co-operation and the need for it, and I am very disappointed to see these people twisting his views to suit their own ends.”

With regards to the other quote, I've typed it into Google & cannot find any links to De Gaulle. I am however ready to stand corrected if you can provide such a link.

Sorry, I'm struggling to see the Churchill misquote.

Interestingly U.K.s per Capita co2 emissions are lower than majority of EU countries and significantly lower than Germany's

Less industralisation?

More of a misrepresentation than a misquote. The context changes with the timing.

UK will have just 6 coal-fired power stations by the end of the year but Germany has 84 and since coal powered stations are far dirtier than alternatives including gas that will be quite a large source of emissions.

OK.
How am I personally misrepresenting the quote then?
As you are suggesting it wasn't made in reference to then non-existent EU and nor was it a meant to be a comment on any post war co-operation between European nations.
As a stand alone comment it merely represents the fact that Britain has traditionally not confined its horizons to just its own continent.
Churchill was very big on the Anglosphere as you know.

As I am certain there are many who would argue that we had a terrible 40 years. We have had multiple wars that wasted many lives and many billions of pounds or dollars depending upon which monetary unit you may wish to apply.

Did the EU drag us into any of those wars?

The answer is : "No, the EU didn't drag us into any war, Mr. Herzlos"
It's more irrational Europhobia by the usual suspects.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

I'm suggesting that it's included in the signature of your pro-Brexit posts solely as an insinuation that Churchill said it in the context of being anti-European.

Are you saying that is not the case?

Remain voters don't have a clue what remain means since 1975 :D

Whereas Brexit voters cannot agree what Brexit meant yesterday.

Arguably true but none were against the EU (at the time). In fact you could argue that our engagement in the Iraq War would have been stopped if we had been more aligned with our EU colleagues who did not follow the lead of the US.
We, nations and individuals, have taken on unsustainable and crippling amounts of debt and left our future generations with very little scope to establish the same domestic and social context we have been fortunate to enjoy.

I would agree that we have done this but the EU has not made the situation better or worse. The GFC was mainly driven by US banks.
