    Like it or not, we live in a capitalist society. Those companies that produce the best returns for their shareholders thrive. Those returns are often made by either raising charges or cutting costs. The Shareholders are often the pension funds many of us will rely on later in life.

    There have been contracts around for at least 2000 years so they even precede modern capitalism, even in Roman times there was a concept of “pacta sunt servanda”.

    It’s amazing how people can argue so vociferously for what is an out and out nanny state argument that adults aren’t capable of signing and maintaining a simple contract.

    What “stunt” of the networks are you referring to now?
    Where do i start, maybe this one..

    • around 400,000 EE customers who ended their contracts early were over-billed, and customers ended up over-paying up to £4.3m;
    • almost 82,000 Virgin Media customers were overcharged a total of just under £2.8m
    Many more at OFCOM

    What does that have to do with the subject of this thread? Which is about 24 month minimum term contracts...

    Its about mobile companies taking advantage of customers.
    Perfectly relevant, no less relevant than going on about roman contracts.

    Maybe you want to talk about tins of beans and gas bottles again?

    I'll say again:
    If the mobile companies didn't want rules imposed on them to give customers a warning that their minimum term is coming to an end, then perhaps they should have thought about that before now. They have brought it on themselves.
