  • Dickenslass re your post on last weeks thread on use up:
Search a ingredient on bbcg00dfood gives you a list of recipes. Some for starters:
White rice - Monday night rice, recipe on above site. Just leave out meat if you want it veggie
Lentils - always good in a tomato/paprika based soup
Marshmallows - rocky road. Nigella Laws0ns recipe is the best, can be found online

We're having smoked haddock and leek risotto tonight as I put leeks in the above site. Not had it before, but we have loads of staples on our regulars list that I got from doing this.

PF, re use ups, my use up box has a big bag of cous cous in it, it always ends up being the last thing in the box so I go through the cupboards again refilling use up box and haven't actually got round to using up the cous cous, I seem to have a mental block over it! I'm off to look at bbc food now for inspiration thank you!
Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Add chopped peppers, spring onions, dressing for a salad? Or a moroccan style stew?

    Hi January Joy-Seekers,

Morning!:coffee: Lovely day off and quite a few frogs to swallow. I was over on the wrong thread! :wall:

    Debt-Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Four:

    * Check online banking. Done.

    * Continue my Challenge 500 miles challenge to travel 500 miles for free before the end of 2019: walking, hiking, climbing, cycling, running and swimming. Will cycle later. Ended up walking 3km. Too windy for cycling.

    * Consume homemade butternut soup for lunch. Done. Added half a leftover portion of sweet and sour sauce.

    * Print 3 sheets of paper for 30p in library rather than buy a new ink cartridge. Done.

    * Post DVDs sold to Ziffit. Done. Walked around corner to OffLicence who uplift Collect+.

    * Post DVDs sold to MusicMagpie. Done. Walked over road to corner shop who uplift Hermes.

    * List 3 camera-ma-bobs oneBay for DW. Done. One sold in 2 mins!? Went to Poundshop round corner and scrounged 3 sturdy, used cardboard boxes for posting.

    * List DW's old camera bag on eBay.

    * Take back 2-month old broken blender. Done. Managed to get an exchange.

    * Fit £4 eBay bargain wiper to my car. Done.

    * Drop off 20 'undesirable' DVDs to charity shop that Ziffit and Magpie don't want. No chance of selling them on eBay or Facebook. Done.

    Hi Monday Money Savers,
Red lentils - Fancy you going to all the trouble of unearthing my old lentil roast recipe, CLF! I like using pulses. I made lentil & mushroom gratin last week - another old recipe I hadn't made for ages & decided to revive.
Couscous - 1LL, I have a recipe somewhere for a Moroccan pie thingy, which uses couscous as a topping. It's very nice, & not something I'd have thought of trying, had I not seen the recipe, which I think was in the weekly Waitrose free newspaper. It sort of crisped up in the oven & was a nice contrast to the meaty mixture underneath.

And here are today's frugal efforts:
*Updated January's grocery budget tracker sheet.
*Paid a credit card in full.
*Paid a 50p into my 2019 sealed pot - not many 50ps around here at the moment - perhaps it's because I'm not spending much, so am not getting them in the form of change.
*Cashed out of a survey forum for £10 John Lewis vouchers - updated my signature, as I like to track my annual survey income.
*Did one survey & entered one prize draw.
*Baked wholemeal bread rolls - just cooling on the wire rack.
*Chickpea & spinach curry in the slow cooker for tonight's meal plus 2 portions for the freezer - only needs the spinach & a bit of garam masala stirring in 15 mins before serving, so a nice easy one.
*Overnight laundry on heated airer awaiting switch on. Washer reloaded for another Economy 7 tariff load. Not switching airer on until later, as I'd rather most of the drying electricity was the cheaper variety too.
    *Made tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Knit - the end is in sight once you're on the 2nd sleeve. I aim to be wearing this jumper by the end of next weekend.
*Continued clearing out my HQ room - more shredding today, plus a decision regarding what to do about a project I was previously involved in - that'd been a bit of an amphibian to be honest, but you'll be glad to know I have swallowed it this afternoon, having fortified myself with a cup of tea & 3 walnuts!!
*Talked to mr f about a very low cost (or free if we take a flask & a snack) outing for the weekend.
And I think that's it for today. All spare time will be spent working on getting my jumper finished.
    Cheers all,
    f x

  • Evening everyone :hello:
Thanks for the starter this week CLF, and for looking up that recipe - if I get brave I'm going to try it (although probably burgers rather than a roast).
Pleased you're feeling a bit better Dawn and I hope that everyone who's a bit under the weather feels better soon.
As always, I am shattered come the end of Monday. Such a busy day at work and such a frustrating lack of getting anything productive done, in spite of my best efforts.
However, things I have managed to do today:
    Swallow 2 frogs
    Tiny PAD
    Load of washing
    Full day of teaching
    Shower
    NSD
    More use ups
Not that much but keeping the faith!
