Afternoon all,
Not a lot going on here, but I've spent a bit more today than I planned. Bird feed, wool and printing at the library. Plus I had a coffee in town, which I shouldn't have really. It was nice, but I felt so guilty that I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped.
Our printer gave up the ghost last night, so anything I print will be very carefully considered, as each will cost 15p from the library from now on. The old one had a good innings though, it was free from work a few years ago with a supply of toner, which is too uneconomical to replace. We always knew that once the toner ran out, that would be it. On the plus side, there is now more room near the computer as it was a huge commercial one. Now on it's way to the tip for recycling.
Wool as DS2 saw a Mario themed scarf which I'm confident I can make, but I needed the right colour green. Pound Stretcher was more expensive than our little independent wool shop, so I was pleasantly surprised.
Now on a decluttering mission - DH is on tip run No. 1 and I'm hoping for enough to do another run tomorrow. The Room of Doom is looking a bit better, but still freezing as the latest plumber to have a look has disappeared too. :-( I am going to attempt to look at Room of Doom No.2 - the craft room - and see if I can uncover the sewing machine in there. I have mending to do as I'm down to one pair of work trousers now.
My bargain case of wine arrived this morning (with the offer it worked out £3 per bottle. ) As long as we ration it, this *should* save some money over the next few weeks.
Dinner from freezer
Online banking to do
Tax return to finish before I get a fine!!!
DS2 next month, so need to plan for that.
Washing on airer
Heating is currently off, but I'm not sure for how much longer....!0 -
Afternoon all,
Its been a weird old day. I won't go into details here but its a day I don't want to repeat in a hurry!
The good bits
* something that I was worried about, isn't going to cost as much as I thought to sort (although I'm expecting other costs around this issue that could go on and on but will take todays thing as a win!) very vague I know sorry!
* met with a friend for an hour whose having a really tough time, I treated us both to a pot of tea in costalots using my loyalty points, she was giggling by the time we left so I was happy with that.
* kids & dh had had the last of the ys hot x buns for breakfast
* out for lunch - I had a voucher for a freebie whopper meal at BK, so paid for another 2 meals for the 4 of us to share. Nice to spend some time with the kids.
* called into a relatives to switch their heating on as they're coming back from holiday in the morning plus popped in some milk and a loaf of bread. Popped into the little shop nr them as we've picked up some great ys items in the past and today got large bags of kp nuts reduced from £2.95 to 63p, got a bag of salted and a bag of dry roasted and put them away in our suitcase ready for when 8 of us go away for a break at Easter.
* called into the library for dh to get some audio books, he likes to listen to them on his long daily commute
* usual bits done, switches off/ dishwasher on the quick wash / radiator shuffle
Still to do
* fix ds1s school bag as he over filled it yesterday and tore a hole in it as he tried to empty it last night :A
* share bath water :A
* after a massive lunch we'll not be needing much tonight, I've got some carrot, peppers and cucumber chopped up and we have fruit etc so might just have that with some soup :A
* put slowcooker on overnight with stew I want for tomorrow lunchtime- everything needed for it in the freezer, chopped and ready to pop in the sc :A
* check diary and sync with dh as both he and ds2 have 2 medical appointments each this week :A
* make drs apt online for dh :A
Take care all.Sticking with the "Small things" thread to keep up us on the straight and narrow.

Evening all
Absolutely horrible day here, pouring with rain for most of itManaged to fit in a short dog walk in between downpours - dog doesn't 'do' rain, so that and a quick wee or two in the garden will have to do him for today :rotfl:
Apart from that, I have:
Washed hair with my everlasting shampoo bar and left to dry naturally
Had a brown banana for breakfast
Tried in vain to dissuade OH from bidding for tat on an online auctionAt least he didn't spend much.
Finished leek and potato soup for lunch
DD2 turned up with kids, so that took up most of the afternoon. They were tired from playing at a soft play place for a couple of hours.
Shopping delivery from Iceland
Used up some eggs to make omelettes for dinner - just as well, they were eggs gifted by DD, from her chickens, and she isn't terribly careful about rotating the stock. One was rotten and smelled awful  but the others were fine, obviously an old one had found its way in with the fresh ones :rotfl:
And that is about it - boring day really, apart from seeing grandkids of course.
Decided to make myself useful this evening, and noted several froggy type jobs in my diary to sort out next week. Also found info on when car and house insurances, car tax, MOTs etc are due and noted them on the calendar. Got rid of 2 years worth of old car insurance paperwork while I had it all out, and have the wood stove alight
Also did a bit of business paperwork and filed away some receipts, and updated my spending spreadsheet to include today's Iceland shop.

Good morning :coffee:
Finally, after 3 days of almost hibernation I am feeling a bit better today. I still don't feel brilliant but I at least feel as though I can breathe today, which is a bonus. Hopefully this will continue and the £18 I've spent on medicine since Wednesday will be more than worth it (although I may need to buy more cough medicine this morning as I'm almost out).
However, after 3 days of doing nothing except sleep - life has left me more than a few things to be getting on with... so today will be a bit of a catch up day. I'm starting with a coffee and a catch up on here - hope everyone is ok.

BaileysBabe - re spending:
We have a spreadsheet that we use to keep our monthly spends in. It covers 6 months overall so if we know that a payment is changing, we can plan ahead, but we actually only use the current month. I don't do any month-on-month or year-on-year comparisons as our financial situation is always changing.
Here's a screenshot of a month. We set the bill amounts (i.e. Rent, phone bills etc), then we set an amount for our groceries, diesel, pocket money (personal spends) and our "fun fund" (things we do as a couple), and our savings pots (car, holiday, etc)
Then at the bottom we add in anything up and coming for that month.
Each week on a Sunday we sit down and tot up any spends from the week by going through the account app and we add them into the correct "spent" box. Then we can easily see how much we have left for the rest of the month. Any payments that have come out are checked off in green.
I then do a quick check to make sure that the total expected matches my account balance. It works for us, and we have a lot of pots. We have actual separate accounts as pots for the car, holiday etc where we put aside money each month towards major expenses (info about these pots is kept on another spreadsheet tab). Pots that are regular spends each month like groceries are just left in the current account and monitored as above.

Get ready for school tomorrow, packed lunches etc...
Soak some chickpeas so I can cook and freeze them tomorrow
Quiet day at home we'll have no need to go out we're back from run/swim so no spend needed
Reconcile card now I've got a refund for some stuff I took back yesterday
Make something sweet for snacks/lunch boxes
See if we have some bath sealant we can use on the shed to seal it to save buying any

Hi folks,
ccl - glad you are starting to feel human again. Take it easy today
hugs to all other poorlies x
Well it's my Monday morning. On the plus side, I have some relatively interesting work projects to be getting on with this week. It's been a low spend weekend as OH has a nasty cold and has spent most of it alternating between sleeping and feeling sorry for himself.
I hate posting from my phone. I am rubbish at typing on it. The main thing yesterday was that I did a load of batch cooking for the week ahead and sorted out some bits of cash that we have stashed. This is not like us to have cash and I want to keep it all separate as it's for different things but OH had lumped it all together.
Today's mission:- B/L/D from stores
- No alcohol
- Charge phone in work - done
- Use free focus app to limit facebook time. I like FB but you def can get into a habit of flicking on it for no reason. - done
- Start a list of jobs/frogs- on the plus side, I did finish writing up my recipes so that has come off the list.
- Internet has rejigged! - lovely. Updated all apps on phone
- Try to find out what's happening next weekend as we are supposed to be going to see friends but currently radio silence - done. Tasked OH with looking for a cheap B and B
- Bit of crochet. OH wants some new gloves before he goes to Berlin at the end of Feb.
- Tidy round
- Ask OH to bring towels in as pegged out on thurs and forgot about them
- asked
- Reconcile budget sheet
- Asked OH to bring in my other seed tin - asked
- Reminded OH to close all curtains (thanks Foxgloves!) - asked. He never closes the upstairs ones, and rarely closes the patio ones.
- Update student loans. This is close to ending now
- oooh I am very close. I will be able to close it at the end of the financial year

Morning all,
CCL, glad to hear you are feeling a bit better this morning, please take it steady today though.
