EON Smart Meters

Both, kev2009, thank you for asking and I did it today! I have switched to Avro. Today is 49 days from tariff's end so I have not wasted a moment. If it does not work out, I can leave penalty free at any time; if it does, they are supposed to save me £117 a year. I doubt it will be that much since e.on recommended I reduce my DD several times. I have done it recently as I don't want to have to wait for them to refund credit once I have switched. Given their past performance, I would still be waiting at Christmas. Thanks, all.kev2009 said:Which energy are you looking to switch supply for? if gas, you could give Zog a go, at the mo they not doing smart meters. They have elec license but so far are not providing electricity sadly, I've been eagerly waiting them to start supply elec.
They are a no frills gas supply, no online portal etc but you can email them. I try to supply a meter reading end of each month and bills are therefore accurate.
I've had no issue with them so far, statements each month by

Annual switching time here, and 3 of the top-4 cheapest alternate suppliers all mandate smart meters. I'd guess that it's well & truly on-hold for now though, with Covid lockdown...

Sounds like you didn't compare the wider market and / or didn't consider separate suppliers.japitts said:Annual switching time here, and 3 of the top-4 cheapest alternate suppliers all mandate smart meters. I'd guess that it's well & truly on-hold for now though, with Covid lockdown...2 -
It really does depend on individual circumstances just how worthwhile it is comparing whole of market, though. If you receive the WHD, it is probably not worth bothering with suppliers who don't offer it, while it lasts... Long may it reign!Gerry1 said:

You should aim to have your cake and eat it - a cheap supplier that offers WHD !2

They're at it again. Sending out texts telling people that under the terms of the tariff they have agreed to the fitting of smart meters.Para 1.4 of the t&cs simply says "We may contact you at any time to offer you a smart meter". There's no obligation to have them. Thanks to others on the forum (esp. pete-20-11) for confirming I'm not the only one being pestered. I've emailed Ofgem with the information, not that it'll achieve anything.ConsumerAffairs@ofgem.gov.uk

I think it is high time those of us who can prove we provide meter readings every month were deemed exempt from this whole smart meter nonsense. In fact, I think we should be eligible for exclusive tariffs open only to responsible people like us who do this. Wakey, wakey, energy companies!
Think this sounds nuts? How about a certain Australian car insurance company who, several years ago, marketed cheaper policies for female drivers because they are less likely to be boy racers/other forms of idiot..?1 -
Yeah, that was the downside... Does not mean it was not justified, just that men rule the world.
