This is Delia's recipe:
https://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/collections/life-in-the-freezer/traditional-braised-red-cabbage-with-apples
which I've adapted to be SW friendly and to suit what I've got in. I generally use eating apples (about 3 or4 depending on size) unless it's windfall season and white or red onions (a mixture this time) depending what's in the cupboard. I substitute sweetener for the brown sugar and either ignore the butter on top or put a few tsps. of spread. Everything else is as the recipe although I use lazy garlic and whole cloves because I have lots of them. Cooked apple should be synned (1.5 or 2.5 for 100g) as should larger amounts of sweetener (although you're not having much per portion) and definitely any spread/butter. Personally I count it as syn free because I get at least 12 portions from a recipe and divided up it would be very low. It's spicy so you don't need too much as an extra side with a meal.
I cooked the red cabbage yesterday evening, left it to cool overnight and portioned it up for the freezer this morning. I've kept a portion out for today.
Today's EE plan:
B: NAS grapefruit, HEB toast, HEA milk for drinks, baked beans, fried eggs
L: JP with cottage cheese, spring onions and picklesbeef in (fake) red wine (onions, mushrooms), SW roast potatoes and carrots, swede & carrot mash, red cabbage, cauli, broccoli, kale
Syns: cornflour 1, weekend wine:D
I had some cottage cheese with an apple last night as I got the munchies. This is Sainsbury's own brand in a large tub:
It has a much 'cheesier' taste than my usual one from Aldi (which was out of stock) so provided it's not too much more expensive I would buy it again.
ETA: Just checked and £2.13 against £3.25 per kg. Not sure if it's that much better.:money:0 -
My menu
B sachet porridge/half banana. Mug of tea x 2
D Two sausages, Stuffing ball, cabbage, carrots, brussels potatoes and gravy
T Chicken and bacon veg soup
I drink black coffee during the day when I want to snack
Plenty of exercise with the dawg and keep busy so I don't think of food[STRIKE]68 [STRIKE]Mouses[/STRIKE] [/STRIKE]

Afternoon! Had to change my Friday eating for panto at Palladium, was unsure if eating out, but I ended up in office on my own, so had late lunch instead, which was fine. Took Alpen light with me to eat if I felt hungry, was synned, but as I only managed to take 1 bite before I dropped it and couldn't find it so what I thought was going to be a 3 syn day barely registered! Panto was amazing, this is the 3rd year & Julian Clary is getting even more camper! His costumes were more outrageous with each change. Thoroughly enjoyed it as usual. Really lucky as a friend runs a dance school so we get tickets at special rates, £30 for stalls, usually over £90.
Yesterday spent most of my day on my feet, was helping sort out end of Christmas meal for fundraiser, was simple meal of curry with ice cream afterwards. Didn't eat any of it, although I was allowing for it synwise, as my partner in crime decided about 3:30 that there was little we could do at that stage cookingwise, so decided to go for something to eat. The place we would usually go to was busy, so went to a Turkish restaurant instead. The food was amazing, shared a platter which had so much food, and little, if any syns, so I am feeling a tad :A! Hopefully this means I am well on way to reversing my Christmas gain.
Finally got to shop today so got a fridge full of speed!
Have a good week everyone.A smile costs little but creates much0 -
