Afternoon friends - not too much done so far today as our visitors were all early and left late...fellow mums going bonkers in school holiday time. Children rampaged for an hour (all boys, so imagine the thunder) then were very well behaved when I took everyone to see the week old chicks and slightly older ones. Such cute little balls of fluff - simply adorable. Then we had to check on the pygmy goats who were behaving in a playful and skippy manner, to the delight of all. I hope our nanny is pregnant as I cant wait for little kidsDizzy re the dog-boarding business, how are you faring with the new regulations that have come in? Or were you set up with those in mind?
Some of the requirements do seem daft – a double barrier at the exit to the garden?? Why?? If the gate is padlocked, the dogs can't get out, simples! I have had a dog who could open the back door himself, but never yet met one who could undo a padlock!
:rotfl: indeed! Luckily (and entirely fortuitously) we have a formal back garden that is enclosed with a wall all the way round with gates out into other areas such as the orchard and paddock, plus we have stock gates and driveway gates to hinder escape, so passed that test OK. its daft anyway as all of my Ridgebacks can easily clear a six foot fence without any trouble
The miniature schnauzer just arrived and a dopey doberman should be here for 6pm, so it will be another busy one! I made the [STRIKE]mistake[/STRIKE] decision to put a little advert on FB yesterday evening and had non-stop messages for two hours and still more this morning. booking overload?
Anyway, in other news I have hoovered the entire ground floor and shut the laundry room door. Looking at it in there made me sweat. Maybe tomorrow...
So sorry to hear about Kelpie Honey Bear - such a sad time for you0 -
Laughing at your strategy for dealing with the laundry, Dizzy! Kudos to you!
All extras done. Suspected mouse damage to speakers in loft not as bad as I thought, as DD went in and checked...all decs and her kitchen stuff (pots and pans) in loft so they're out of the way until she leaves again. Bedding/towels will have to live in the living room unless I come up with a better place to keep them. She's in the smallest bedroom; no room in there.
Have also taken stuff to CS then made lunch THEN DD gave me some more *sigh*. I have flung mugs I am NEVER going to use that way (ie to CS) - kept a few Xmas ones as may make snowman soup if we do crafternoon again...and am amassing a collection of square Xmas cards for the same reason...I will find somewhere to stash them at work (another overcrowded building...)
Washing brought in; towels and other stuff on maiden airing.
What I haven't done it the Poppy-present removal as the garden was not frozen over. Recycling bins going out tonight.
DD showed me a 'programme you'll like it's about tidying' on Netflix - only Marie Kondo! This meant I spent time trying to persuade her that my (small) collection of snowmen brings me joy.
And Lamewolf - ugh - gross!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
Thank you Honey Bear0 -
Sounds like everyone has been busy in one form or another.
I have done almost nothing today except dailies. Son came over at 9.30 so the day was spent with grandchildren. DD2 baked cookies (and made a mess) for birthday boy. Not holding out hope for getting much done tomorrow and Saturday I'm at a show not sure when I'm visiting relative. Not enough hours in the day.0 -
So obviously the boiler behaved perfectly well whilst the engineer and I stood and looked at it and listened to it dutifullly clicking on and off on demand. On the plus side, I now have heating and water again and while the loft ladder was down I put some of the Christmas boxes up there. The trees will have to wait for DH to help me.
I have spent the last hour or so turning a few cards into gift tags using small luggage tags. I now have about 30 half decent tags for next year.:money: and bonus point is that they are away in the loft where they should be.
Walked into the DR and remembered that cleaning was actually on today’s list to do .... done a Dizzy and shut the door.0 -
Evening all x
Today was the most Mondayish Thursday in history! Seen every hour on the clock and then slept through alarms 1 and 2 which meant no breakfast for me. Work dragged and we had a skeleton staff so I never halted apart from the hour we had a power cut.
Came in and packed DD off to my Aunties till Sunday. Wasn't going to bother making dinner but I had mince that needed to be cooked or.flung so I've made a chilli and I'll have the rest for lunch and dinner tomorrow.
I'm just chilling the rest of the night because I'm shattered!I'm not a muggle...I'm just magically challenged0 -
Hi all
Up at 6am, mince in slow cooker, kitchen tidied then off to paid stuff. Left work early to take DS to job centre, came home to make tea and clean kitchen again. Have given the work tops a proper clean and washed cupboard fronts. Will hoover and mop floor in a minute.
My office will have to make do with a five minute tidy. Need to put some clean washing away and I am sooo tired!0 -
Been out with DD today so only just got on here. I did do some washing before I went and it partly dried outside. All finished off indoors now and put away. Didn't do much else apart from the normal dailies0

I'm emailing timber treatment companies to come and quote to sort out the woodworm and damp in the house. Terrified of the costs involved.Outstanding mortgage: £23,181 (December 19)

Thursday list done, plus the dailies.
Not done the HHI, I prefer to do it all in one go on a Sunday complete with a film or something. Hardest part is finding something I actually want to watch.
Tidied the log store too, and fetched some bags of logs from the farm shop. Reminds me that the wood burner is an expensive luxury, but one that makes the cats very happy.

JoJo you sound as if hugs are needed. Helpful partner vibes coming your way.
- Tidied kitchen in preparation for aga service.
- Not very good news from the aga man. We were aware that ours, being nearly 30yrs old, is gradually depleting the stock of spare parts (that particular model - it's actually a Stanley not an Aga - is no longer made). It's functional on one thermostat but the defunct other one is now unobtainable. Plus another part is very worn (don't ask me the technicalities). We asked at what stage we should be buying up every spare in existence, and seems that time was about 5yrs ago.....technician's suggestion is that about once a month he acquires an old one (but not as old as ours) and that would cost about £3K fitted as opposed to double that for a new one . It seems that will be what we need to do sooner or later. Then he started poking around and said it will be sooner rather than later.:( but apparently the newer ones will fit into the same space, same pipework and are more versatile and efficient than ours. At least ours is still working the cooking and central heating as long as we get the settings right.
- Vacuumed bedroom, bathroom, landing and top part of stairs. Shook rugs out of the window.
- Went round several rooms to put in fresh (sales) pot pourri.
- Went to Ald1 armed with list for friend's birthday dinner on Sun, and the hope of some ex-Christmas bargains. The aisles were so full of trolleys, either of new goods or unloading Xmas stuff that you couldn't actually see much. Went to a couple of other shops with bargains in mind, only got some half price tiny lights which I put on flower arrangements.
- Made soup for tomorrow, at which point we debated whether friends had said they are coming 'between 12 and 2' or 'from 12 until 2'. I pointed out that serving soup and rolls at 2pm may not be the right solution......however I did get a reduced Christmas cake in Ald1 today and we have lots of fancy biscuits, so if it is tea and cake then we will just have soup for tea. At least the soup used up the penultimate squash from our home-grown which means less clutter in the conservatory.
- Finished and emailed a report; started the last one.
- Printed off paperwork for this term's assessment bookings so far.
- Tidied lounge, dining room, hall in preparation for visitors. Snuck some new lilies into one of my flagging arrangements.
- Looked up the dances on the list for when we go to Blackpool in Feb, with the hope of learning at least one new one before we go.
Seems that was it.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.0
