LL, what were the older threads called? I'd love to have a read through from the beginning. Perfect for a cold winter's day when I can't face leaving the house. I did a quick search, but the closest I found was by someone called BitsyBeans, was that an old user name of yours?
Thanks so much for this thread, it really is inspirational!0 -
I think the first thread was called something like Frugal Frump to Fab, and I think it was started at the end of 2010 or maybe early 2011.
I am sorry I am hopeless at links, but perhaps some kind soul will set one up for you.
Most of the titles begin with Frugal Frump to Fab, then with a little bit extra added on, either the year or something which is hopefully either witty or current. This year the "Here we go again" bit was pinched from the ABBA Mama Mia movie.
But yes we've been going for around 9 years now. So a lot of reading. :rotfl:
Enjoy.
I seem to recall that Betsy Beans took over for a while whilst I had a break.0 -
It's a horrible dark and dismal day here.
I'm on a decluttering kick at the moment too Sugarbaby.
I was watching a YouTube video on winter dressing (Jenny Mustard - a Swedish vegan YouTuber who has moved to London) and she was saying about wearing summer dresses as a layer of warmth. I have been doing that too as they are thin but do trap the heat in.:)
I haven't even tried the thermal tops yet, I keep forgetting about them.
I am going to try and stop random spending as I keep wasting money in places like Superdrug. I am going to use the stuff I have first. I have some cocoa body lotion that I haven't even touched yet!0 -
Oh, that is what I meant to say. I read the ingredients and I did keep The Ordinary moisturiser in the end. I just donated all the ones with acid/peel elements. It seems to be okay with my skin so far.
I was thinking that I have seen a lot of pinafore dresses around at the moment. I'm not sure if they would suit me. I do like dresses, though.

I have the Liam Gallagher concert next week. I'm thinking of just wearing a short black skirt, black thermal top and black jumper with my faux leather biker jacket and boots.
My husband's work give me money off vouchers for therapy/treatments each year. I have £250 to spend on a therapy. I had reflexology and acupuncture last year, if anyone remembers that.:D That seems like a long time ago now.
I'm thinking either massage, shiatsu or reiki this time.:)2025 GOALS

Hi everyone, have been reading along, not posted here or anywhere much for a while. My health and stamina are way better than they were 2/3 years ago, but still suffer with fatigue and lack of motivation.
I am able to walk with less pain and longer distances, but still need to be fitter. I do strength training with weights etc with a PT each week, but still need more activity on the days that I can manage it.
A few days ago I clipped a double page spread from a daily newspaper with exercises recommended by Derek Redmond aka Mr Motivator. Link below from a different paper, but exactly the same, nice and easy to follow, in case it is of any use to anyone, particularly while the days are so short and cold and it is difficult to get out to walk etc. Link here
fingers crossed that the link works:)The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. (Abraham Lincoln)0 -
Maddie welcome back. I’m pleased to read that you are felling better health wise, even if you are still having not so good days.
Wednesday your £250 treat sounds like a wonderful opportunity to try new treatments or just to have a bit of pampering.
I can’t believe the thread has been running for so long. I don’t think I joined from the start, but I think I have been around for quite a long time. I have really enjoyed this little corner of the forum and look forward to the 2020 thread, which I guess will be a 10 year anniversary thread.0 -
Good morning lovely ladies.
Hello Maddie, good to see you back. Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better. It can be a long journey back to health and vitality but hopefully we will get there.
Skibunny. I did a forum search and it seems that the first Frump to Fab thread was lost....I seem to recall that the Moderators merged it with one of the diet threads that was running at the time. Maman and I appealed saying our thread wasn't just about dieting, it was more general and they left us alone after that. The second thread was called Summer Solstice Sensation and began in December 2010.
The rest is history, we've been running ever since. Yes we do mention diets, although we tend to prefer the term Healthy Eating and our chats cover a quite a range of topics but I think really the ethos of the thread is all about well being and personal development whilst still trying to be MSE about it.
For some the MSE part will be crucial because of financial constraints, for some it will be a matter of choice, simply always trying to get good value for our money.
For me - I was £30k in debt when I started out and tbh feeling pretty desperate. I was also worn out and at a very low ebb. My husband's illness was terminal and I felt like I was in a long dark tunnel. I always knew there was light st the end (my mantra is nothing lasts forever) but there were times when I couldn't see even a glimpse of light.
I don't think I'm being overly dramatic when I say that this thread was my lifeline because sometimes it was only the support and encouragement of my virtual friends that kept me going. RL was very bleak at times.
There were times when I feared my posts were a bit self indulgent, when I ranted or when I poured my heart out but you wonderful ladies stuck by me and gave me love and friendship. I shall be eternally grateful.
A few times now I have thought about leaving the thread or at least not posting much but, knowing how much it has helped me, I feel loathe to do that. I would like it to stay running whilst so many people get enjoyment and hopefully the help and advice they need.
Anyway we have fun ......
A couple of the new windows went in yesterday and the guys are hard at work already on the big bay window in the lounge. My bedroom is so much warmer, the difference is really marked. The original windows were wooden and single glazed, sort of mock Georgian style. They were the original windows from when the house was built in 1935. They were well maintained and were very pretty, having the bottle bottom effect on some panes.
I dithered for a long time about replacing them because athough the house is not listed and I could replace them with any style I fancied I really didn't want to spoil the character and period charm of the building. Some of my neighbours have gone for modern plate glass windows and tbh they don't look that great.
Anyway pleased to say the new windows are almost identical to the ones I have replaced, the only difference being modern ones cannot replicate the bottle bottom effect. However, the new windows do look "in keeping" with the age and style of the house and of course they have the added bonus of being easy maintenance, (no painting required) and the big one....more energy efficient.
All the properties in the street were built in the 1930s and mine is the last one to have had its original windows replaced, so it's done well to keep them. The house generally has been well looked after and does still retain many of it's original period features so I'm being careful to refurbish in a sympathetic and thoughtful way. It costs a little more and takes longer but I think it is worth it.
I'm really looking forward now to doing the final touches......after Christmas I will get the decorator to do most of painting and I will be able to concentrate on the accessories and the final tweaking. Then hopefully sit back and enjoy living here......:rotfl:
I really need to start thinking about Christmas.... and I really must book a haircut.
Time to get my a&& in gear and up the fabbing.0 -
Hi All
LL I've only been following the thread for the last couple of years, sometimes (and lately) quite sporadically but I do read through often. I'm awed by your pragmatism when dealing with some very life changing events ans glad that you are now comfortable in your forever home.
I certainly would like you to stay running this thread as you are always so very supportive and positive to everyone.
Not much on the fabbing front lately - my breathing has not been too good and its P** me off as my asthma has been very well controlled for 20 odd years. I got a nasty flu virus a couple of years ago despite having the jab & I think its still having some repercussions. I will get it sorted one way or another. Need to return a pair of jeans to Primark - I buy theirs as they do a 34" leg length but this last pair are so skinny I cant get my legs in them. Wouldnt mind but I dont have hefty legs!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I love this thread. I find it very supportive.:A
I've been decluttering like a fiend the past few days. I was just about to buy some storage on A*azon for Black Friday but I looked around my house and rearranged some furniture so I don't have to buy anything new now. I just saved myself over £100 doing that!
I moved a blanket box into my bedroom and I'm going to put all my handbags in there. I only have 7 bags but there is a blue one that I hardly ever use so having them all in one box will help me to remember to wear it.
Looking around my house I found a lovely scented candle I forgot I bought too.:)
I am doing a pore strip, a lavender bath and a leave on face mask tonight. The face mask is a B from Superdrug brand.Wednesday your £250 treat sounds like a wonderful opportunity to try new treatments or just to have a bit of pampering.
I know. I just wish I had taken advantage of over the past years! I never got around to reading the details properly.:o

Hello Ladies,
I went to Karaoke in Herne Hill on Wednesday, I had a really good evening dancing but did not do any singing because there were no other singers.I danced to good music as the DJ made it a dance night.
Today, I went to visit my older daughter and my son in law.It was a laugh a minute day with my daughter. :j We watched 2 comedy films and as we have a very similar sense of humour we laughed ourselves silly all day.
