I started feeling crappy again this afternoon, dizzy and sick.:(
I am just taking it easy tonight.I'm not even having a glass (or three) of wine as I don't feel up to it.:D
I'm watching The Real Housewives in my pyjamas and drinking sparkling water. *Polishes halo*;)0 -

Humpy- In case you are creative you could craft a lot of treasured gifts.
Patchwork quilts can be beautiful and heirloom pieces. If you don't have time to to a full quilt- few of us do- a few patches the size of a cushion and framed in an ikea white frame can look awesome.
You could create small memory art collage for your children. Maybe take a photo of important photos, tinklets, small things like buttons from old clothes, ticket sub of a concert... small individual things that trigger a converation and a smile.
I saw Ikea put baby shoes in the deeper frames and loved it. I would be so grateful to receive something that was tailored to me. You can get images of bands your kids loved, images of visas of where they traveled and oh i could go on.
If you are not really creative you could superglue scrabble letters on a white card. you can google scrabble letter art. you can use names of your child, in law and children. words like hope or dreams and put in an ikea frame
If you have beautiful writing- calligraphy art. A poem or quote in a ikea frame.
textile art- wool, buttons and ribbons all glued into a small frame.
If any of your kids cook could you collate a family book of recipes? You could include a saucepan or dish with it.
Have a look on ebay there is some great deals (some fakes) but I generally buy cosmetics from places that have huge ratings only. Keep an eye out for pop up shops and department shops selling of the old ranges. those boxes with reduced to clear lancome, clarins and the like contain treasures that can be made into a great gift.
Boots do a 70% reduction after Christmas, Is it awful to suggest buying them and storing till birthdays and christmas roll by.
sallys salon services offer cheaper than salons luxury hair stuff. You might like this for purchasing gifts.
Amazon have some amazing offers, at least you can safe on fuel and parking.
A lot of people like hampers- you can make your own with a bit of cellophane. I have learned a long time ago even with the right presentation and a bow it is very hard to tell the price point of a gift if a few high end brands are included.
have a look on the voucher sites as you might be able get a pamper voucher for some of your family- just be careful as some of the companies need to be very financially sound.
I hope that i have sown a few thoughts for cheap gifts. A lot of the ideas I have suggested are copies of stuff sold in high end gift shops and cost a fair bit, If you have time you can make something special that lasts.0 -
Lots of lovely creative ideas there SFT. And I agree personalised gifts are lovely.
Good morning lovely ladies.
Well the fabbing at the moment is mainly of the garden variety, but the exercise is doing me good.
It's been perfect gardening weather, not too hot for doing the lawns and yet warm enough for sitting down (can't really kneel anymore :rotfl:) and hand weeding. Today will be more of the same. And I might make a start on some shed sorting. Although I think it might rain later.
After a couple of weeks of staying the same I have now lost another 2lbs. Wahoo getting there.
I have now reached my target weight for the christening, with 4 weeks to spare so I might even manage to lose another few lbs by then. And I only have half a stone to lose to get down to my original target I set myself for my birthday. That's over 8 weeks away so with a bit of luck I should achieve that quite easily.
Anyway the weight loss means I have several dresses to chose from for the christening. In fact I now have a whole new wardrobe full of nice things which should carry me over the summer.
It's a great feeling ..........
Hope you are all enjoying the weekend.
Wednesday & Clippy.....hope you both feel better soon. I'm still a bit tired and have been feeling a bit cranky with it. I have been feeling a bit low, have been really missing my husband just lately. Everyone talks about the shock and pain of the early days bereavement but no one ever really talks about the long term loneliness of losing the love of your life and the impact it has.
Hey ho......I will keep busy and work my way through this rough patch, just need to go with the flow..

I don't drink or smoke so apparently that is good.
I need to increase exercise, not easy as husband can't do any and hates me being away from him so this will be more challenging.
I don't drink coffee which is also supposed to be good.
The clinic are writing to doctor to ask him to prescribe vitamin d and calcium, I bought a bottle yesterday and will have the first prescription to check doses but I will probably just buy me own then as they are quite cheap.
The clinic also want doctor to do a blood test, I assume that is to do with vitamin D levels. I will be a pin cushion shortly.
I'm not a big dairy eater, cream makes me feel a bit sick, cheese gives me migraine and I just don't like milk. Fortunately I love almonds so I will be buying a big of them, thanks for the tip savingfortomorrow.
I do have history for falls, all my own fault as I rush round so I do need to be a bit more careful.
All in all I am grateful they did the test, I was planning on having it privately if the NHS wouldn't do it, and glad that I know. I just had this niggling feeling it might be a problem.
I'm off for my second hydrafacial soon so that will be nice.
Humpty, I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis, but at least it is not as bad as it could be and there are things you can do to improve it. I wish you well and hope you get any approved medication soon. xx
I also am on Vit D supplements as part of the cocktail of medication I have for my Restless Legs Syndrome. One good thing, I joined RLS-UK and I now have a Medical Alert card, to show when appropriate (eg. the theatre or cinema, or a coach, anywhere where legroom might be restricted), explaining that I have this condition and requesting that I be given extra legroom, or room to move, where possible.
I know it won't always be possible, but I could sure have done with it when I went to my son's partner's Graduation. I was in the middle of a row in theatre seats, my legs were all scrunched up. I knew there was no way I could sit there for the duration, but they would not let me sit in the disabled section with extra legroom (although it was almost empty), so I had to watch it on the TV in the bar. Had I have had this card, they may have allowed me to sit in the disabled section, although had I have booked the seats myself, I would have just booked the end of a row.
My card will hopefully benefit me on such occasions, and maybe even when booking flights - I may get the extra legroom seats free(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Brilliant tips SavingForTomorrow. I've just been sorting out some bits of wool and started a baby blanket for a friend who is pregnant. Hopefully it will make a nice gift. I'm not terribly creative, crochet is about as good as it gets but I did have some success with an elderly relative when I created a calendar for her with some special photos. It was cheap to have printed and she loved it. Sometimes the thought is much more important than the money.
SDW I have been to so many graduations, 4 kids all with degrees and post grads so that is 8 before we start on anything else e.g. young people who worked for me who invited me to theirs as a thank you, my own, ILs etc. The best university for helping with disabilities, i.e. my husband, was Nottingham. They were really fantastic and it was so well organised. I've been to one or two that were more of a penance than pleasure although I obviously loved seeing the young people doing well.
I know the walking is doing something due to the pain in my hips this morning. Hopefully that will improve but at least it proves I'm doing something. I'm quite good at dealing with pain so I am philosophical about it.0 -
Thanks for posting all the craft ideas SFT. I know I really value hand made gifts. My DGD1 made me a lovely card for my birthday (one of those with a needlepoint picture) and I treasure it.
We have a particular group of friends that we have lunch with regularly and at Christmas we exchange small gifts at our Christmas lunch. We don't spend much, it's just a gesture to make the occasion festive. One year I bought them all a Lidl Stollen (They were mostly Waitrose shoppers at the time;)) just to show that the discounters' foods aren't poisonous!!:D Last year I bought Aldi candles (the fake Jo Malone ones) but made the gifts bags. I did dark green drawstring bags with their names embroidered in red and white strings with red and green beads. Ideal for reusing to hold your Scrabble letters.:)
Good to hear about your weightloss LL. Sometimes a STS or even a gain can be inexplicable. I'm confident that although it makes sense to go to weekly classes, weightloss doesn't always follow a weekly pattern and if you keep sticking to the plan it'll come good in the end.
I had a small NSV (Non Scale Victory) last night. I decided to wear a long skirt and thought I'd just try my slimmest one. That was mainly as a test. I was delighted to find that it fitted perfectly:D. It's a Nicole Farhi silk chiffon but it has a fixed waistband and taffeta underskirt that has absolutely no 'give' at all so I can't wear it if I'm feeling fat. I really enjoyed my dancing and also wearing the floaty skirt. It's floral with a black background so I wore it with a simple black tee shirt just to play it down a bit.
I've got quite a lot coming up this week so pleased that today is quiet. I'm hoping to do a bit more drawer/cupboard tidying and will make us a lovely roast. I really enjoy those on a Sunday. I'm still probably not as good as my mam was but I'm doing OK!:D0 -
I hope you feel beter soon.
Thanks.:A The dreaded vertigo has eased a lot and I got lots of rest last night. I didn't sleep all that much but I feel better for the rest.
My two little dogs were remarkably well behaved as well as I moving about trying to get comfortable and they laid still almost all night. Very unusual.:Dlessonlearned wrote: »I'm still a bit tired and have been feeling a bit cranky with it. I have been feeling a bit low, have been really missing my husband just lately. Just taking a breather...rushed like mad to get the garden work done before it rains....not sure if it's going to now. It might have blown over. I've got a load of washing on the line so I am watching the clouds. Lol.
Need to have some lunch in a minute.....running a bit late because I was so busy with the garden. So dinner will now be supper....:rotfl: well I'm nothing if not flexible. Ha ha.
Had a message from a nice guy but he was in Weston Supermare.......nah. I'm holding out for a (local) hero.. He seemed rather disappointed when I let him down gently.
My hands are a disgrace. I've clipped my nails short because the rough work has left them jagged and flaking. So a nice manicure and some TLC tonight.
Btw. I have started using a retinol serum. Just twice a week to start, face is a bit pink sometimes but so far no real soreness or flaking like I have had in the past when I've used retinol. Fingers crossed. Retinol really is the holy grail at fighting the wrinkles and improving the texture of the skin, so I'm hoping this one will be ok. I am going to take it very slowly.
Wednesday.....how sweet of your little dogs. They just know don't they. Pets can be such a comfort when they cuddle up. I really miss the cat......maybe I'll get another one someday.
Forget the Johns......just become a crazy cat lady. :rotfl:0
