Hello Madam Min......lovely to her from you. A lovely positive post, full of hope. And giad that you are finding the optimism and energy to move forward towards your goal.

Sometimes we feel that we are in a long dark tunnel and that we can't see any daylight. But the daylight is always there, even if we can't see it yet. At such times you just have to keep going, with faith and hope in your heart.

Well I didn't cut the grass, instead I went to bed and slept like a baby for a couple of hours. Do I feel guilty......not a bit of it. I clearly needed the sleep otherwise I wouldn't have slept. And the grass will still be there tomorrow. :rotfl:

Humpty.....yes Nottingham and Leicester are fine. I am prepared to travel for an hour or so by car.. Maybe even London for someone special but that's about it.

It was bad enough commuting for work....:rotfl:

Relieved my mental map wasn't totally off. Geography was never my best subject. I can remember being asked where somewhere was when I was at work and said something like, "Go towards Birmingham and then turn left." They weren't very impressed :rotfl:Made perfect sense to me.:rotfl: Sounds like a decent sized pool to fish in so you might find someone local sooner than you think.

I don't think I've ever been to Derby or Leicester for that matter. I have been to Nottingham so I probably saw a sign for Derby and realised it was close. Amazing what we store in the subconscious.

I've been working on my budget, I reckon if I am really strict with myself I could have £15k saved by July 2020 which would make quite a difference to my house purchase. Mind you my kids say what are you saving for, the future has arrived. In my head I'm 21 and the future is along way off, which means I get a bit of a shock when I look in the mirror or when I realise I have a son in his 40s, how on earth can that have happened?

Sick GC seem to be improving but not sure if they are going home, parents say they have it now so I might have them for the weekend, feeding them won't help my budgeting will it. Amazing how quickly kids get their appetites back, a stomach bug puts me off food for days not hours.

Doesn't look like they are being collected so I suppose I'd better move myself and sort some food out.

That's a brilliant post min, thank you so much for 'delurking'. This is a really super thread as you've probably noticed. We discuss all sorts politely (compared with other threads:() and try very hard to stick to our fabbing theme. LL had a fantastic idea when she started this. :T

Glad you're OK LL. Maybe there's a John 4 living just around the corner!:D

    Christmas!!

Well done for being organised humpty. I suppose with so many DGCs it's necessary. Sugarbaby is the same.

Christmas is easy for me. Like LL, we made a decision a few years back to stop buying 'stuff'. As well as family we have had the same discussion with friends. So now we don't do presents for adults just our 2 DGDs and a few other children in the family. I'm sure we'll discuss this again, nearer the time!! :D

Meant to say LL , SW do a low carb version of the plan which I use occasionally. It's basically lean protein with veg. My 'go to' dish for that is a cottage pie but with a swede and carrot mash for the topping instead of potatoes . Also with a roast, I do roast chunks of carrot or butternut squash (new potato size) . There's something psychological about cutting into chunky veg. :)

I think the problem some people have is thinking they're on a 'diet'. Instead it's about changing your eating habits for a healthy way, permanently. :)

We really ought to be careful discussing "Johns". Apparently ladies of the night often refer to their clients as "Johns". :rotfl: I hope no one gets the wrong idea about me. Ha ha.

Re the low carb thingy.....yes I have been experimenting with various root vegetable "mashes". They can be just as tasty, love parsnip mash (with apple, Nom Nom). Although I would imagine they are just as carby as potatoes.

I agree. I am trying not to focus on the word diet at all, but as you say, a way of eating for life. That's why I'm not too concerned that my weight loss journey has been a slow one. Hopefully it means I'm learning better lifelong habits.

BTW. On the subject of healthy eating. Does anyone use an air fryer. What do y'all think. Worth it or not? I do love "real" chips and I've read that airfryers do a pretty good job of giving an authentic fried food taste.

My mother made the best chips in the worrrrrld - (Cue Jeremy Clarkson voiceover) - Belgian Style - twice fried. Instant heart attack. :rotfl: There's a new cafe just opened in our city centre offering "authentic Belgian style chips".

I might have to try them out - purely as a homage to my mother you understand. ;)

Wednesday......hope you feel better soon. Nasty horrid things, migraines.

I think we might be safe enough with Johns LL but let's keep away from John Thomas! :D

SW have a list of what they call Speed veg and fruits (i.e. The ones that speed up weightloss). Parsnips aren't on the list or the more sugary fruits like grapes.

Lots of people I've met through SW have an actifry which apparently make fab chips with minimal oil. I've never bothered. I make great oven chips myself. We had some tonight and they were lush.

Wow, I feel much better than I did earlier.:) I staved off the full migraine in the end.

I keep thinking about getting an Actifry too LL. I have heard that chips in there are very nice. I do like the SW chips too, though.

My Mum used to make lovely chips in our old fashioned deep fat fryer that we had.

I'm not even thinking about Christmas. I'm "lucky" in that I don't know anyone with kids so don't have to worry about that type of thing.:D

I think I read on this forum about where you put away £1 a day in a jar and then you have £365 for Christmas. Seemed like a good idea.

The music lives on and has worn so well. ........The clothes, the hair maybe not so much. Lol.

Humpty - you mentioned the C word! Wash your mouth out!!! You're not allowed to do that until after June lol.
MadamMim - so pleased to 'see' you and to read how positively you are thinking now. Do keep posting and let us know how you are progressing.......or not sometimes.
I saw a caviar mask in Aldi last night and thought I'd give it a try - anyone here used it?
Had a bit of a blow today - the results of my annual blood test came through and the practice nurse rang to make an appointment with me as apparently I am diabetic. My DS2 is T1 so I'm well aware of the effects. I'm not overweight, don't smoke, don't drink much and I'm active with a good die. I've also realised I've always had fasting blood tests until this one so I'm hoping that could have skewed the results. I have been considering cutting down on my carbs so I think I'll do that anyway as it can't hurt.
LL - you know what happens with 'Juhns' as soon as you're not actively looking one will come along ;)
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

You could be right silva. My DH had a fasting blood test last week and practice nurse said blood pressure was sky high. Cue for worrying.... ☹️ He had it done again yesterday, late afternoon and results were excellent. All because early morning he hadn't had his medication. Smiles all round.:D

I know, terrible to be thinking of C now but if I'm going to hit my saving target I need to. I am all or nothing, one year I am all done and ready for it in August, the next year I am shopping the week before and wrapping presents on the 24th. I can't decide which works best. I try to limit things so it is just kids, their partners and GC plus niece but that adds up to 15. I can't quite bring myself to say no presents for my kids, they may be all grown up but I still like to get them something. I usually go for wine or chocolates and some nice skin care/toiletries, maybe a bit more luxurious than they would usually buy and I know they get used and they like them so it feels positive. The funny thing is I don't really like presents for me, my favourite thing is some money on Amazon so I can buy books without guilt and it means the present goes on giving for months. I usually donate the books to the library when I've read them so again it is positive. Of course birthdays match Christmas so 30 presents a year, I need to plan really or it would be too much.

Sorry to hear about the diabetes, no one deserves it but it does seem particularly unfair when you are doing everything right. Hope a fasting blood test can sort it out.
