3for holidays I use LaRoche Posey sun cream, I burn easily and I find it good for the face. I usually use Aldi moisturiser, the soy one, which is fine. For the last few months I've also been using flax seed oil as a serum. A hospital consultant recommended that I take it as I have dry eyes but I ran out of moisturiser/serum and as my skin felt so dry I used the flax seed oil and I've been really pleased with it.
Just before Christmas I tried Elizabeth Grant neck cream, my neck is worst feature, and it seems good. I've only been using it for about 2 weeks and they say 28 days to see full benefits but so far so good as my skin looks much better.0 -
Hello
I stumbled across your 2018 thread and have been waiting for this to arrive so that I could join.
I have also been guilty of not making myself a priority and not realising how important it is to make the best of what I have (in all areas) and how much of a difference that makes to me
This year is a year of 'adding' things to my life.
Things that will add joy, add love, add care.
Most new years have found me trying to put together a plan of change that is really just me punishing myself for what I am not and I refuse to do that this year.
:T:T:T
Absolutely this.........thank you Frankie for such an interesting post.
I have always maintained that Frump to Fab is not about deprivation or punishment, it has always been about pleasure, ease, TLC, self love, and adding joy, light and love into our lives.
Now I really do sound all new age hippy dippy .....:rotfl:
I think it is all about getting into the right mindset and learning to focus on enjoying the things that make us feel good, that enhance our lives, that make our bodies strong and vital and makes our faces glow with joy and happiness.
I hate the whole concept of diets......they don't work in the long term but eating good healthy nutritious food, in the right quantity, does.
It isn't about torturing yourself to become a perfect 10, it's about accepting and cherishing your body. Making it healthy and getting it functioning properly so it can repair and heal itself, so that it can remain flexible, supple and pain free, well into our 60s, 70s,80s and beyond.
It is about making the right food choices, eating the foods that give us the nourishment our bodies need, not stoking up on empty calories. If you see giving up sugary, High fat, high carb foods as deprivation then you are not thinking about food properly and you will find it very difficult to make the right food choices. Going easy on the cakes, biscuits and general crap such as pizzas, pastries and stodgy pies is not a punishment, it's a making a sensible life enhancing health giving choice.
So what if you are curvy size 16 - so are over 50 percent of women in the U.K. So was Marilyn Monroe......and let's face it she looked pretty damn good.
There is no point in starving yourself and exercising every spare minute you get to give yourself an Audrey Hepburn body when your natural shape is more Sophia Loren. Go with what you have. Love your body, cherish it and nurture it.
If you are overweight and it is affecting your health or reducing your energy levels or impacting on your joints and mobility then obviously you do need to shift that extra weight as quickly as you can but please don't think that you have to be a stick insect in order to be attractive. And for goodness sake don't starve your poor bodies into submission and deprive them of the nutrients they need.
The reason why so many people fail with their New Year Resolutions is that they set themselves impossible goals. They start all gung ho in January and then fall by the wayside before they even hit Easter.
The trick to achieving change......of any kind .......is consistency, not starting in a rash of wild enthusiasm and then giving up through boredom or lack of motivation or because you aren't making "progress" quick enough for your liking. Please remember There are no quick fixes and no miracle overnight transformations. Although of course we can cheat a little, a few tweaks here and there can make a huge difference.
You will learn plenty of tips as we go along .......the old timers on here have loads of little tips, hacks and cheats to help you on your journey to fabdom.
Sure we all fall by the wayside now and again but then you just climb back in the wagon and start again. You have to be really committed to the long haul to make any real difference. There are no magic wands...:rotfl:
So please no restrictive diets, no sudden punishing exercise regimes. You won't make it. You are setting yourselves up to fail. You will find it too hard and you will give up.
Instead make small changes to your daily routines, do them consistently and you will soon start to reap the benefits. Take it slow and steady, in small manageable steps and you are likely to be far more successful than if you go at it all bull at a gate.
Make yourselves a promise. Give yourselves six months.......0 -
So today I dried my hair after my shower (more because it's cold weather, tbh!) but didn't do anything else to it. Serum/ eye cream/ day cream on face. Body crème on non eczema etc areas. Light touch of mascara. Perfume (Clarins Eau des Jardins) That'll do for today. Ooh - and a 45 minute walk. Not re-starting tracking food today - that starts again tomorrow (not self deprivation, just calorie tracking with approx. 300-500 calories/ day deficit - slow and steady) - last day of my 2 week Xmas break of doing so.I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200

Sorry LL - re Marilyn Monroe's size.
As at 1945 she was:
36-24-34
Which is size 14 top and size 10 bottom
In 2018 - with our vanity sizing = size 12 top and size 8 bottom half.
It's each to their own whether to go for being Marilyn Monroe or Audrey Hepburn imo.

I'm not sure whether to regard it as reassuring or no that it's a myth that "French women don't get fat". Watching lots of French street scenes on YouTube and I can see that they certainly do - as most of the women are as plump as the British and there are some fat ones too. I didn't spot anyone grossly obese - but that was the only difference.
The diet is back on with a vengeance now and I'm still waiting to see if I get my figure back at 8.5 stones or whether age-related shrinking might have "compressed" me round the waist and I have to go down to the lowest weight I've been (ie 7 stone 12 lbs) in order to go back down to my normal size. I do hope not.....:eek:0 -
Happy new year everyone!
Amara - I am on slimming worldI lost 3st 7lb but gained a lot over the last few months (my own fault) it's a brillaint diet.
Had a rough start to the new year so had a chilled day with my son. Been in my PJ's all day!
Had a nice shower when my son was in bed, put some moisturizer on after and just painted my nails watching some NF while catching up on here!!Did a face mask too.

Skincare Query
I've purchased some La Roche Posey trial size bottles as my face is sensitive and everything I seem to buy to cleanse it made my face go red i.e. simple, cetaphil etc. I've also purchased the Avene trial size set so I'll try that after the LRP is finished then probably pick the one that suits my face the best. What brand of cleanser/moisturiser do you use?
ETA - Just wanted to add my thanks in advance to anyone who replies to my queries.
Have you tried oil clensers or micellar water? You might find you get on better with something that isn't foaming. My favourites are camomile clensing balm from the body shop and superfacialist vit. C clensing oil. But there are loads.
I love Avene and LRP. Used the avene Hydrance optimale moisturiser for ages.
Top tip, if you like them the Escentual website often has 25% of all French pharmacy products, and is also on topcashback. It started today for a month, Have to do an order tomorrow0 -
Hi, everyone I would like to join this thread. I have felt frumpy for a while and really need to do something!0

:T:A Totally agree.
I wouldn't ever want to be a size 10 again as my breasts looked totally out of proportion.:rotfl: I remember how many men in clubs and bars asked me if I had implants when I was younger. Grr.0
