Christmas tree and decorations gone. :j I'm an old grinch and struggle with the for more than a few days but I have to make an effort for the little fella.

One area I struggle with is putting washing away. We obviously have too much so some of it has to go, so I will start this Afternoon.

Roll on CLUTTER free end to 2019.

  • Lots of declutterers :T & so many positive ideas :D 2019 is our year :D:D:D

Just about to go through my paperwork - need to clear the decks for 2019 ...........

Guess what ... just got distracted.... made the bed, put the washing on & did the little bit of washing up. I am usually quite good with paperwork but for some unknown reason I am procrastinating :o
I need to give myself a good kick up the jacksie :D

    See you later

  • So pleased to have discovered this forum. I'm hoping you will all provide the incentive I need to keep on with the decluttering.
Early in 2018 our house suffered from a major escape of water in the loft and we were living in alternative accommodation until mid-December. 90% of our possessions spent most of the year in storage and very little of that stuff was actually missed. Now it's all coming back into our beautifully restored home and a lot goes straight back out to charity shops or the local recycling centre.
I'm hoping we can keep up the motivation to get rid of what we don't need or don't like rather than just get overwhelmed with all the stuff sitting in boxes in various rooms in the house.

Parsniphead I hope the outcome is positive for you

Mrs Salad Dodger - I'm not a paperwork fan either! I scan it all in and shred the paper copies, barring things you need physical copies of. I was nicely up to date a couple of months ago and have let it all build up again.

We've just taken a full car load to the tip - 1/52. Mostly cardboard and household waste, with some wood, metal and electrical items thrown in, though we could definitely sort better for recycling next time.

Our destination next weekend is the charity shop as we have a large pile building in the spare bedroom. In the mean time I need to go through all the items I'm holding on to, to sell, and see whether there's anything to donate in there, particularly in terms of clothing. I'm not planning on listing anything for sale again until we're settled in the new house now, but that doesn't mean I intend to take every last bit with us. ;)

Happy shiny new thread ! Thanks Mrs sd

Leelad it's all very well knowing how to do it but it just takes that mental 'click' to get us into the right frame of mind to get on and do it, so well done. Taking photos is fantastic as you can quickly forget how bad an area was and fail to see how far you have come.

Good luck everyone. If I can just add from the Marie kondo train of thought - dont worry if it's your partner's stuff or children's stuff, just start with your own and the communal stuff. So often people have posted about that and how it gets them down but gradually later in their posts you begin to read about others in the family joining in slowly slowly. I say this from years of reading the decluttering threads and the kondo threads so dont be disheartened just get started and you never know.....

Plus yes there is links between untidy spaces and mh so dont try to analyse which came first or which needs to change first, if you feel like beginning then please do and gradually you may feel brighter and happier. Even if you dont, it can't hurt to be in a tidier cleaner environment even if it just means it takes less time to Hoover round, that's a win right there!

  • Hello! I started this last year in January and actually decluttered a lot last year (although stopped posting sadly!). I really want to carry on as there is still a lot to do and I’m not drowning in kids toys!!! I’m also moving to a smaller house next year so need to crack on with it so our new house isn’t a state.

I’m aiming for 2019 items! That’s 5.5 a day to get rid of. Starting with the kids toys!

Thank you for the kind words Daisy, my wife's MH is not great so decluttering the house (bit by bit) has become important and something which I need to get on top of. As my wife finds things like this somewhat overwhelming. Let's see how we go... I like Princess Money Penny's approach. 5.5 things to get rid of each day

That should be a smiley face at the end of that last post. Note to self: emojis don't seem to work that well on this forum! :-)
  • Hi I would like to join in with this please
I have a spare room of doom and several drawers too,my plan this year is to streamline my house so it's easier to keep clean,I'm another one who is always looking for storage solutions before realising I just have too much stuff
I have one DD who lives at home and who has been on a cleaning and decluttering bender over the last few days so her room is minimal and spotless, she has inspired me to tackle the rest of the house and is going to help
My other DD moved out about 5 years ago and still hasn't taken all her stuff with her,so we will be having a conversation about that in the not too distant future
I am looking forward to being clutter free in 2019
