Hi all, I've not been on in a long time but I'm still going on the whole de-cluttering thing. I've lost count of how many objects have been ejected from the house....countless bags of rubbish, bags to charity shops, boxes of baby clothes given away, furniture sold or taken apart.....the whole house does feel lighter aside from the loft which is where all the stuff I can't/don't know how to decide about is currently being kept. I am planning on tackling it in December (fewer bugs up there in the winter!!) so it's clean, tidy and hopefully we can get all the surplus stuff out in Dec/Jan ready for potentially moving in Feb/Mar. Glad to see everyone is still going strong.

Lovely to see you aimeemum :j Looks like you have been extremely busy - that is a lot of decluttering :T
Hope all goes to plan ;) as you have exciting times ahead :D Makes it far easier to move if you have already decluttered :T

Hope you pop in & let us know how it is going.

    Good luck

  • I also threw away a used up air freshener, an old pen and a bottle of clogged Tippex.

I have been looking for a replacement red handbag in charity shops but I have had no luck so I bought a new burgandy one with Black Friday. I have put my old red bag in the donation bag along with the soap, flip flops, husband's jacket and a couple of his tops.

I had that done last year. I found the acupuncture far too painful so I had to stop that. I am quite sensitive though.:o:D I hope it helps you both.:)

Saturday has been mainly dry. Managed to be up to pay the milkman & then just settled down watching TV & knitting - I have started on scarf no.5 DSis has been in her room all day & DH has been in his office all day.
Dinner was lo pasta Bolognese & lo cheesy pasta both with mozzarella slices & reheated in oven until cheese melted. Gradually emptying the kitchen freezer - am hoping to defrost it by the end of the month ;)
Ashamed to say that still no decluttering :o but DH & I will be restarting the office clear out on Monday.
One lovely thing - DH prefers my hm chutney to Br*nst*n :D He must do because one jar is finished :rotfl:

Sunday has been dry with some blue skies & sunshine- relatively warm as well. We have mainly been lazy :o Although I did go to the sm for vegetables & a few bits & bobs + I treated myself to a throw to cover the other sofa :p Second day of settling down watching TV & knitting.
Dinner was cooked roast beef from the freezer warmed through in hm gravy, roast potatoes, fresh carrots roasted & boiled, tin of garden peas, the last of the frozen green beans & frozen Yorkshire puddings. Absolutely scrumptious 😋
Lo vegetables are being used to start the next hm soup ;) together with various bits from the freezer & fridge including a portion of cottage pie, last of the frozen leeks, frozen passata, hg chillies & parsley, half a sweet potato + red lentils & a beef stock pot. Tomorrow I will add a bit of onion fried in the last of the gravy, some spices & a bit of Stilton.
As you can see I am determined to empty the freezer for defrosting :rotfl:

  • What a lovely thread, I'm excited to hear everyone's stories.

Following Marie Kondo's techniques from her Netflix show, I have found this method a very beautiful way of saying goodbye to old things. It's not the most time efficient way as it's doesn't just mean chucking things, but it's a great experience if you have treasured your soon to be past belongings! I'm just about to move into my first flat and most things I have are going to be donated to charity, with love.

Life is a constant renewal, forever fluctuating and with this, de cluttering is a way of renewing that energy! I've struggled with a mild case of hoarding in the past and I hope to not continue that in my nice new flat!

Well back on the decluttering wagon. The Christmas stuff for the CS has finally gone and I gave a bag of bits and 5 Christmas boxes for my MiL to send on plus a few bits for her church Christmas fair.:T

We have also been decluttering a HUGE pumpkin Son No 1 gave me. We have given away piece but with the substantial amount left we have made a vat of soup and are doing pie a pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread over the next few days.

Bag count I believe to be 88 now.

The week before last my sister's partner had a heart attack. Dear Sis, who died in March, had a place for everything, well mostly. We had to bring his bed downstairs over the weekend but it was easy as everything had a place so it took virtually no time to clear her sewing room and moved his bedroom down stairs. Everything was in a container so easily placed in a box and moved.

He won't be out of hospital for at least another week as he is having bypass surgery today but I didn't want to be rushed.
