I've had a mad half hour, only really wanted to get the dry washing off the airer, got rid of 3 pants that were a bit past it, this spured me on to tackle the toiletries cupboard. Decanted all my half used pots of moisturisers to make a super pot! All unwanted unopened things boxed ready to go to my mum (loves selling things) and finally convinced OH to get rid of his hair clippers (I must have asked 10 times if I can chuck em, doesn't trust me to do it, doesn't do it himself so what is the point in them?!) I'm claiming that as my biggest victory :)
  • I've just started a notebook to keep a track of my decluttering (I'm in science, I love a stat!), and I've been trying to remember what I took to the charity shop out of my wardrobe. For the life of me I can't remember. It just shows you that it was definitely clutter and won't be missed!

    Onwards and upwards!

When I put the littlies to bed just now, I went through 2 small carrier bags (20 items!) of OTC meds/plasters, etc - whole lot chucked as seriously OOD!:eek: However, in moving said bags, I've (re)discovered loads of tealights, saving me an expensive trip to !kea - cos you never just get tealights, do you?! :rotfl:

Tomorrow's plans include the rest of the meds and first aid type things, and all the toiletries. I've been watching the Marie Kondo series, so I know it should be clothes first, but I need a whole day (at least!) to tackle them, just mine and DH's alone - so saving that job for the end of the week or the weekend, followed by the littlies' clothes...

    Hi all.

DH and I had a clear and clean of the through lounge and dining room this evening.

We have put some units and shelves back in the lounge from when the builder started. We have virtually cleared a tall shelf unit of books and only have a few shelves to go. Its looking a lot better. Over the next few days I will work along the other shelf units - another tall one and a smaller one. Then there are the floors. I hope by the end of the week to have it all cleared.

There is a lot to do over the house but getting this area done is really important to me.

A box is now in a prominent place for the charity shop collection which I see will be ongoing for some time. :o

Only 6 items decluttered in the last couple of days, and two of those were redundant individual fairy lights! :rotfl: On the other hand, I've spent this evening making creative repairs to a favourite pair of pyjamas. Now they can stay favourites and don't need to leave, or to be clutter in the mending bag, and I'm pleased with that.

Days off about to happen so I might add a few more items... or do I mean subtract them?

  • Retired in France, you do have a point about helping the charity anyway, if you've bought something that turns out to be no good.

Occasionally I've bought an item that doesn't fit (1 or 2 of the shops here don't have fitting rooms), and you can return stuff and get your money back, but I will re-donate them.

I used to buy far more than I do now, on the basis that it was "only" £3 or something, but common sense prevailed.!!

There's a fine line between helping the charity whilst helping to save yourself money, and just wasting money because the stuff is cheap.

    Hope I don't sound miserly!!
  • Just finished clearing out old paperwork and re-listing all my bills for the year and when they are due. Its three hours I will not get back in my life, but feel so much better for making the effort. Lots of paper to be burnt by OH in the garden trash can.

keep up the good work everyone.

It's been a good day so far at Gin Towers. I took another two bags to the charity shop ( toys and clothes) and brought back some big plastic boxes from Wilko. I used these to tidy up my bread making stuff as I tend to order loads of flour when I get a food delivery and it gets shoved anywhere it'll go. I also did a tidy of the canned food and have concluded I must stop ordering tinned tomatoes every time. I do an order for all the heavy stuff about once every 6 weeks and I just get loads of everything we use. Well, since I've got about 20 tins of tomatoes I reckon I'll be ok for a few weeks. 🤣

I've added more books to the pile for leaving the house and recycled 5 cardboard boxes (hubby likes to keep the box anything comes in 'just in case'. Honestly when we moved house we found the boxes from appliances that had broken years ago still in the loft) and 3 empty wrapping paper tubes. I added another 2 to the craft stash for a pirate telescope making activity after school one day. Yo ho ho!

I'm feeling fired up and ready to keep ploughing on today so I'm off to see what else I can sort out!
  • Hello declutterers, long-time lurker here who is finally facing up to what a slob she is.

I moved back in with parents almost four (!!!!) years ago and things have just gone from bad to worse. Was depressed for a while and it got to the point that I just did not care how bad my living space got. However, if I have any hope of moving out this year, I need to clear it!

Not sure how I’m going to ‘log’ my decluttering, perhaps aim for 1 problem area a week and if more happens then that’s a bonus!

    So today/this week:

*Nice new bed sheets onto bed/old sheets into laundry basket properly.
    *clear desk of empty tinnies.
    *put out bin bag.
*put into recycling cardboard boxes that are still in my room for NO reason.
*sort make up shelf (throw out outdated products, everything in it’s own accessible place and not a pile of doom)

Afternoon all.Just found you all so i'm reading back as and when i can.
Every morning when i get dress i'm taking at least one item out and putting it in the charity shop. Some of it is so old and not been worn for years so i haven't a clue why i'm saving it. Prior to Christmas my granddaughters primary school asked for cuddly toys so had a huge sort out of those of which a few never made it to school and now on granddaughters bed:rotfl:
Sold a few things on Facebook which is helping 2 challenges at the same time.
Started a freezer audit so now need to plan meals around what i've found so far then work my way down.
