Ok so today I decided to tackle the cupboard under stairs or the glory hole!
Loose candles were put in the box underneath the sink, laid the vinyl tiles that I had got from poundland nearly a year ago and put 5 more items in the charity bag by the door. I managed to get up into the loft and bought down a very old valve radio. This will be cleaned up and put on gumtree.
Have also sorted out my sock drawer. Now this might not sound much but the drawer wouldn't shut as I keep buying new ones thinking that the old winter ones have worn out. Primark has a lot to answer for as they never get holes in them or fall down.
Every little bit helps0 -
Just had a bit of a disaster
. One of my kitchen drawers has collapsed ! It's now resting on the dining table waiting to be emptied and sorted tomorrow, only then can DH fix it. I have realised that it's too full of stuff ( probably rubbish ) hence the collapse, so since when, do I need 14 Tea towels in there as well . I think there's going to be a lot of other stuff in there going be thrown out too!
The cs kindly left me a bag this morning for collection on Wed, so that will save me a trip to town. It's already full .Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Leelad, yes, it is tough going but you are doing so well and give yourself a pat on the back. Remember, as someone here said, every item decluttered is one less to have to think about, store, clean....
6 big, gigantic even, pile of magazines supermarket leaflets out for recycling from the magazine rack which was overflowing onto a pile on the floor. In case you are worrying, the mags are free ones for the Brits here. I did put two real mags aside for the CS who give them away for free.
I have stopped buying mags. I am too mean, sorry, thrifty to spend nearly 8 euros on an English mag. However whenever I am in the UK I buy a couple at the airport and they get passed around .
Silly vixen -DH was given a chocolate orange for Christmas and it is bang in the middle of the kitchen shelf, calling softly to me.
I am really really pleased with myself over clearing out the magazine rack. Decluttering is so much cheaper than wine!0 -
I know i'm a few days late but can I join?
I haven't been on this forum for getting on for two years. I have de-cluttered quite a bit in that time.
In fact the lady who runs the local charity shop asked me if I'd got anything left in my house. If only she knew!!!!
I have a full room in storage that needs completly sorting. I think relistically I'm going to aim for outing 1 thing minimum a day. Wheather thats bin, giving it away or charity. Then I'm going to aim at putting 2/4 things on ebay a month. I only put things on ebay which are wroth over £20 pound because of fee's and postage costs.

Back after the Christmas break to continue the sorting. We have had a hell of a year as we have been working round builders as they transformed the house. There is more to come but we have a little break between projects.
Ultimately, when I can retire in 2 years time or so, I won't have any decorating or decluttering to do. Just have fun.
Today my DD went back off to uni with 6 huge bags and two suitcases of stuff. The house and myself have breathed a sigh of relief. Her room is the sorting room :rotfl:
This morning was spent sorting at the CS. I am sad to have to send off to the ragman all the summer clothes they cannot store and the lovely coats that were ideal apart from the heavy cigarette smell. A lovely Christmas Tree was put in the bin because no one will buy it now.:(
Other stuff that people left that got chucked out: Medicines, half used creams and lotions, dirty and cracked tea light holders, bag of used and holy socks and knickers. Ugh.
With all this in mind I have a bag of summer stuff I will wait until the end of April to take in.
On a positive note I took in a carrier bag of books and have more but again will wait until a few weeks down the line once The Great Christmas Clearout has calmed down a bit as the shop was overwhelmed with bags of clothes and 'stuff'.
So 1 bag down and a whole year of fun getting rid :j:j:jWife, mother, gardener, nurse, Big C survivor. 48-52 OOD date medicines - mostly OTC stuff, but some unused prescription meds, too, feel guilty about that!
On the back of this, tomorrow I'm going to tackle all the different places where meds, first aid stuff, etc., are stored, and be ruthless. Then I'll find one place to store everything, and have a pared-down collection with only follow-ons of things we use regularly, like painkillers, calpol-types, plasters, Rennies, etc., to stop wasting so much in terms of products and money.

Hi I have had a productive weekend gathered a huge box of items I had knitted for my charity group son will drop off for me tomorrow so already in his car. Made an incubator cover for local nicu so fabric stash reduced. Tidied wool stash and emptied 2 large plastic boxes. Emptied large chest of drawers (5 large drawers and 2 half size ones) onto the bed tried on all the clothes and packed holiday wear into the empty plastic boxes chucked out old bras and knickers listed 3 items on eBay and added more to cs bag. My aim is get rid of chest of drawers and replace with a smaller one. I admit half way through i was flagging stopped for a coffee and read the posts on here which gave me the push to carry on. The declutter must be catching as hubby went into garden picked up leaves ready for recycle collection on Wednesday he also made a pile of stuff to go to tip on Tuesday when he can borrow a trailer. When we finished we decuttered a packed of biscuits left over from Christmas. Now going through magazine rack whilst watching tv. I'm not counting items just looking at extra space in the house.0

I have never thought of a garden having clutter, but I see what you mean. I have recently removed two trailer loads of ivy from the hedges in my garden. I got a great sense of achievement from doing that. Ivy in hedges is unwanted and unnecessary. Looking at the hedges now, they certainly look healthy and uncluttered.0 -
Hi everyone
I hope its alright to join in.
I have started getting rid of 'stuff' and some has already gone down to the CS, but although I think I haven't got a lot of said stuff when you look around I know I have more than I realise; so this is the year for tackling the understairs cupboard of doom and all other places that need it.
Tomorrow Im going to the tip and CS depot to get rid of some of dds stuff as Ive been helping clear out her rented house (shes bought a house now) and its all in my car. so instead of going through it, the lot is going!! and then when I get back the cupboard under the sink is being done, as I only use the items at the front so whats behind can go! Its making me feel better just putting it down here.I will report back tomorrow .
