I am another that finds Kondoing is not working for me (not even when I am packing boxes to move) however it has worked for my clothing and do like the folding technique so will take what works for me from that
when I move I will not be taking a lot of my harsh chemicals with me (I am sure I need them because I dont do a job when its simple enough) but also with a septic tank I want to keep things as eco friendly as possible so mostly be bicarb and white vinegar essensial oils for room sprays etc
can I ask what frugal cleaners some of you use please (of can I be poited in the right direction to ask if its on another forum HxEmergency fund £10,000

Hi, I've been lurking for a while and you have all been inspiring me so I'd like to join you. I too am tackling specific cupboards or areas rather than counting items and started with books being sorted and placed onto a bookcase full of filing! The filing has been sorted and thrown or shredded and the trays moved (with a view to getting rid so they don't fill up).
I watched the first Marks Kondo episode and didn' t think I'd get the spark joy process until I tried on a new top I'd ordered: it hasn't sparked joy so I'm not buying it! I don't really need new tops anyway! :rotfl
An old storage unit also went to the top and I've tonnes of books, some toys and clothes to go to the charity shop. Also fished out an expensive evening dress I hope to sell to a second hand shop. So I'm off, but there's so much to clear :mad:MFW 2019#24 £9474.89/£11000 MFW 2018#24 £23025.41/£15000

The place mats and a pair of shorts were added to the donation bag. I want my husband to go through his wardrobe this week too.
I'm also throwing away two spare dog food bowls as they are just taking up space in the cupboard. I also threw away some cough medicine as it made me feel sick!:eek:0 -
Evening All
Mini body spray and mini shower gel which were given to DS Christmas 2017 and still not used, surplus gift bag, 2018 calendars from DS and DD's rooms - all in recycling. 2 x hoodies which DD no longer wears in bag ready to go with me to work tomorrow for the charity bin we have there. I've decluttered the upstairs carpets of dust except DS's room as he has text books all over the floor at the moment. Laundry basket empty-ish and fridge full ready for the working week, bathroom was sparkly for about half an hour! Empty shampoo bottle recycled. Went for a walk, hopefully decluttered an ounce or two.
Need to think about something for tea. Hmmm. Have a good week everyone, Keep up the good work :T.

Happy New Year everyone!
I'd like to join in as well please. I'm the queen of the cupboard/room of doom, so really need to get back on track with things this year. At some point over the next 18 months we'll start thinking about starting a family too, so that's some serious space we need to make!
Also been watching the Marie Mondo show on Netflix. I'm not sure about the saying hello to the house thing before you start, but there is definitely something to be said about your instant reaction when you pick up an item or a piece of clothing...
I'm also loving the mantras people have been mentioning so far. Would you buy the thing again or would you want the money instead? If you had to pay to ship it to Australia, would you? Will be hearing these in my head when going through things, and when I'm buying anything new!
Good luck to everyone else's decluttering ambitions for the year!Every act of kindness, no matter how small, isn’t wasted ❤️

Some great clearing taking place. I am now starting to see the amount of stuff that I do not need.
Yesterday I intended tackle larder etc but instead sorted some clothing filled 3 bags all heading out tomorrow...going to put in car boot now. Started on utility room and have filled one bag with rubbish and recycled another bagful. I have cupboard full of outdoor shoes that the family need to decide what they want to keep or get rid off.
Some clothes need to be sorted in there too.
Hope to have that finished tomorrow. I am actually starting to see a difference in the house already. Have seen that I have too many items in kitchen cupboards. So looking forward to getting this place cleared.:)0 -
We took several bags of 'stuff' to the charity shop. I've already got more bits earmarked, so will be making another trip next weekend.
Also made some roasted red pepper, tomato and garlic soup to use up some peppers that had gone a bit wrinkly. We'd originally planned to stuff them (mince, rice and various spices, plus a passata sauce) but ended up using the mince for chilli, and I didn't want to throw them out.0 -
Hi, been reading some of the posts in this email thread. Really inspiring. Made more of a start today in the attic. Cleared a space for me to work and sort things out. Did a run to the tip with:
One car seat, two pairs of Wellingtons, pair of shoes I no longer need, some children's books which our daughter has drawn on, the remainder of a child gate, a tablecloth and dead lightbulb & batteries.
Also advertised the pushchair on FB, nothing of it as yet. Tidying up the attic can only be done one step at a time. My wife suffers from poor mental health & has anxiety issues and is out of work at the moment so the task is too overwhelming for her to work through. Her outlook and approach to what I am doing is negative, doesn't want to help or get involved. Advertised a couple of things on FB buy and sell but she has a negative approach to this as well, so it's likely that if I was posting lots of stuff on there all the time she would struggle. I work full time, so am having to fit this in on a weekday evenings and I get chance during the weekend to do bits. One good thing from today is that the lady picked up the balance bike from me for £25 that I sold on NYD. No reaction at all from my wife to this (good or bad). It's tough going ☹️ but will keep chipping away at it. Thank you MrsSD for the decluttering advice 0 -
Leelad, so sorry to hear of your wife's MH problems. Great going on selling items - bit by bit is a good gentle way of working through things.
A big thank you to everyone for all your posts as these have very much helped encourage me to get started this weekend.
Made a start this weekend by enlisting OH's help to start working through the backlog of laundry and some of the more labour intensive tidying. Now that the place is tidier I can see where to begin.
My first goal is to downsize my huge desk (with lots of storage space) to one which is much, much smaller. New homes will need to be found for things which need to be kept so it's quite a big task involving clearing other parts of the house as well as the desk itself. Have made a start on the reading pile which up until a couple of months ago was up to date.
General decluttering over the weekend has started the 2019 in 2019 count which now has the grand total of 4. Well, don't want to rush these things!Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0
