Hello,
Just logging in to 2019 de-clutter ambitions. Have set a high target of half an hour a day which is half a day a week. Starts tomorrow, yes really. Promised DH after a trip away would start.
Hope to be able to invite friends round. At the moment every room crammed full of stuff.
Good luck everyone.0 -
Oh I am so glad I found this thread!
I have gotten massively into decluttering last year and hoping to continue this year.
So my aim so to clear out two rooms in my house this year. They will be the living room and office.
I don't think I will keep count but I will choose an area to focus on each week such as a cupboard or drawer to sort through.
I've already begun with a clear out of one of the drawers which was full of "spare" cables. Half of them I had no idea what they were even for! Now I am wondering if anyone knows whats the best thing to do with these? I have a mix of cables and electronics such as old phones (very old!, a laptop and tablets which are just slow and old or broken.
Are there places to recycle these or sell on?
Next up are the book shelves!Frugal Living Challenge 2017: Living on £5,000 a year

I did some chucking out on my day off yesterday, now the bin has been emptied for the first time before Christmas I have space and have cleared a couple of bin bags of rubbish.
I have gone through the bathroom and sorted to what will be used and what has been hanging around months and not been used and put the plastic in recycling.
I have 2 boxes in the spare room for charity and will be filling them as I go along, once full they will go to the charity shop. I have sorted a few bits of clothing and willgive them a quick wash before adding to the box. I had new sauce pans for my birthday and they were in the spare room for 7 months before being washed and put in the pan cupboard a few days before Christmas. The old pans are in the charity box, having spent Christmas in the understair cupboard - except for 2 pans which are going to a friend tomorrow for her daughter who needs more pans for her uni digs.
I am also taking 3 books for the church book stall (I know there are more I just need to find them).
I intendended chucking out all the video tapes (the video recorder has been gone for over 3 years), but as its a 2 sided unit and the videos are on the wall side I knocked a bit of hubbys star wars Lego off the unit and spent hours putting it back together (although I did declutter the choc orange I got in my stocking in the process).Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. 1. SMALL TASKS WILL BE DONE ASAP
2. I WILL LEAVE A ROOM TIDIER THAN WHEN I ENTERED
3. KITCHEN WILL BE LEFT CLEAN & TIDY EVERY NIGHT
4. WHEN DEALING WITH CLUTTER I WILL USE ‘Daisy1571’s idea of ‘WHAT WOULD I DO WITH THIS ITEM IF IT WAS SOMEONE ELSE’S ?’
5. IF I WAS STARTING FROM SCRATCH, WOULD I BUY THIS?
6. BE LIKE A POSTAGE STAMP - STICK TO ONE THING UNTIL YOU GET THERE

I see that we are split over the merits of Kondoing :rotfl: I fold clothes using her methods but the rest is not really my cup of tea :rotfl:
Thank you all for your tales of decluttering & silly vixen - I love the decluttering of a chocolate orange

I'm very glad I pay my milkman by direct debit as I often hear the milk float coming down the road at about 4:30am. He'd never get paid if I had to go and give him the money!0

Good Morning, can I join in, please? I have a spare room, loft, and a basement that are full of clutter. And of course, my wardrobes are overflowing. I am busy going through my wardrobes and listing on Vinted and ebay. What doesn't sell I will car boot in April. I will start with the loft and get that cleared out. Tip the charity shop and local free sights.an GC. £180.00/£3000

Feeling inspired so have taken phot of brand new pretty bra which was the wrong size for me but too expensive to return. Not really up to EBay etc so will put on Freegle along with biscuit and cake tins, a small length of new carpet and a soda syphone with cartridges. May find more, I know I will not get money but I will not be just keeping them. I sorted through Mum's old photos a couple of years ago so am pleased about that, also scanned lots of the family ones so they are stored on PC or Cd#s. Will have to try Music Magpie for CD's etc.0

I took the tree down yesterday and have put the unused decs out for the charity shop. Also sorted out my work bags, all the work stuff is at work now apart from a bit of paperwork that has come back (it’ll be straight in the fire tonight though!)
That’s the hallway sorted now 0 -
Hi declutterers,
I’d love to join if that’s ok
I’ve read through the thread and feel really inspired :j
I’m going to turn all clothes hangers the wrong way round today, check out the Marie Kondo show on Netflix and put all the Xmas decs away (will give me a chance to clear out that cupboard)
Not sure on a goal for the year yet... There’s quite a lot of things in my house though :eek:0 -
Hi, thanks for running this post, its very motivating.
last year I had lots of little samples and bottles of body lotion, and remnants of lotions in various tubes. I decanted the whole lot into a pump action lotion bottle and have then a good shake. It meant I was able to recycle lots of plastic, and my dressing table was so much tidier. I laughed when I came downstairs my OH said, "oh whats that you have been putting on, it smells lovely".. great way of using up lots of little remnants as body lotion.0
