hello everyone, hope the weekend is going well.
Cherryfudge with your local History videos, if there isn't a local History Group of some sort, maybe try U3A or a college or university. Even if they can't make use of them, you might feel better knowing that you've done all that is reasonable for them not just to be disposed of. Anything commercial I would just get rid of.
Yesterday was a bag of small items to the charity shop. This evening I'm going through the kitchen cupboards, and boxing up glasses and similar which have been unused for a long while and then getting them out. I'll also use up any ageing herbs and spices in lentil soups, or throw them out if too old. I have decided that I only want to keep the ones that are used frequently, and will try to simplify with things like an Italian mix rather than oregano and so on separately.
Decluttered £100 filling the car and getting groceries but can't really count that!
For the people dealing with sentimental clutter of any sort, maybe start with just containing it for now. The one thing I'd say is not to agonise over it, as it is the last thing the donor would have wanted. Both my sister and I found that we suddenly switched into being able to clear things that we'd kept from our parents and aunts and uncles. A friend ended up getting house-clearers in, under pressure from her brother, when their mother died, and is still unsure whether it was better or worse. She moved all the "personal" stuff into her house, and initially could hardly move around (personal stuff for her included a large amount of furniture, all the kitchen stuff, and all the linens) Her brother cleared the nearly-new fridge-freezer and washing machine to his house. I don't think he had any worries about the other things at all. Most of it is now gone, but it's taken her twelve years and given her a lot of worry about things that weren't especially precious to her very practical and pragmatic mother.0 -
This is hubby here
Wife is in bed with a migraine
But I have got rid of 29 things as I have packed up some of the kitchen for moving and added them to her siggy
However should I also add in the things that are staying here when we move (our son is moving in) as its stuff we are not taking or doesn't that count?

Good afternoon everyone.
Mrs SD - Thanks for remembering us and posting lovely comments.
CherryFudge - Our county has or used to have a local history archive section and they used to take all local material. I used to consult them when doing my family history hobby.
One day one of WW2 my Mum decided to keep a diary of day to day life etc. until the war ended. She did just that and then in the 1980's she told me about it and she said she had thrown it away in the 1960's as she thought no one would want to read it!
5 pair of slippers to recyc as new pair bought in sales.
New year declutter resolution. No more wool from CS and aim to crochet up all the stash into pram blankets for CS to sell.
From last year I am continuing with using up stash of hotel soaps which have been collected up over 25 years. It is slow but havn't bought soap all year.0 -
I found a shampoo and conditioner that I like so I'm making my way through the other bottles that I don't like!:D The rest of one was used up as a hair treatment today and I have a bottle of conditioner by the bath that I'm using to shave my legs.
I still have the donation bag as I didn't take it yet so I'm going to look around to see what else can go. I might take the place mats as I never use them.0 -
Been clearing away Christmas decorations and cleaning downstairs.
House does look empty now.
27-29 broken Christmas decorations
30-31 pair of old shoes
32 cards with glitter binned
33 cards without glitter recycled
34 pile of junk mail recycled.
35-36 remains of candles binned.0 -
Hello all declutterers
Well the decorations, the lights and trees have come down. I have filled a carrier bag with defunct decorations which I will offer to DD for her classroom for next Christmas. If they are unwanted I will bin them .
Two sweetie tins have been put into recycling, one from this year and another from last year.
Why did I keep it last year ?
I also sorted out the spare bedroom and found DGS booster seat which can go to the cs. He's far too big for it, he's almost as big as me . There is a wooden toy garage that DH made for the G Nephew who is 17 this year, it has also been to school with me for the littlies and then DGS has played with it, so it will have to be broken up as it's a bit bashed and tired. A bit like me then :rotfl:
Thanks Daisy didn't think of the cs for rags.
Thanks MrsSD for your encouragement
Happy decluttering all !Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Many thanks for the responses about the video tapes. There is just one I want to find, it is of myself with my then schoolgirld daughter and my uncle when we were on a TV quiz. Managed to get a machine which I hope will work so will bin the ones I know what they are and then trawl whats left. I do use Freegle quite a lot, usually people pick up so I think I will put biscuit tins on there. Do not find it easy to EBay these days for Mum's glasswear etc, will have to think some more. Had a death in family today so may have rellies coming from abroad so dear friend is coming to help me de-teen spare/grandson's odd night bedroom. Now what about my collection of Fanny Craddock magazines I have from donkeys years ago. OH DEAR, Thanks again for support.0

Afternoon everyone:hello:
Well a very product full 2 days here. Took 4 black bags of stuff to the Charity shop yesterday.:T Cost me £20 in total to get them there and home again, £20 I really can't afford but it had to be done. Still have 4 bags here to go but they can sit in the attic until I can find a way to get rid of them. I'm just glad 4 are away TBH.
Some of you might remember I was talking a few days ago about needing to get another chest of drawers but was struggling to get some made up. Well today I walked over to a not too local furniture shop and aswell as a chest of drawers I've ended up with a wardrobe and a bedside table:eek::rotfl: All will be made up in the store and delivered this Friday:T
So I now have to remove the chest of drawers currently in the room on Wednesday or Thursday and put those into the attic or somewhere else lol.
They came as a set and it was a good deal, so I now can join in with the great idea of turning hangers the wrong way that I saw on here......... although in saying that it would be useful if I bought some hangers first :rotfl:
I've got 2 more episodes left of the Marie Kondo show to watch, have to admit I am enjoying watching it, but I'm still not talking to my items, I think I'm going mad enough as it is, don't need to add to it
While up in the attic I came across 5 VHS players, so one of those will be coming to work with me for the kiddies to watch the pile of videos we have hiding in a cupboard,
One I'll bring into my room and the other can go into the spare room. We still have a few videos here esp home videos so will be nice to watch those again.
Off to have a bit of a lie down now as I've got my days and nights mixed to this past 2 weeks and I start back to work on Monday:eek:

Had a busy day today but reading through everyone's posts just now made me determined to do something however small. I ran upstairs, changed in my PJs (cosy!) and found a pair of walking trousers to go in the charity bag. Thanks everyone for helping me keep the momentum going. 😀0
