Work today but a declutter planned for later. I've got six weeks until DS's new bed is delivered and I've challenged myself to get the whole house decluttered by then, possibly excluding the cellar. It should be doable.:o

I'm in the mood for sorting today so work is going to be annoying. I want to stay home.

  • Hi Guys,
I have been quiet for the last few months but ready to go again now.
I was doing well until May when I had a new kitchen fit and some extensive works on the house - this caused a massive declutter prior to works but I haven't kept up to doing it since.
I am now ready to go and am fed up with tripping over stuff we don't need, so here goes my motivation to start again! I will be reporting at least weekly now, even if it is just for motivation.
I made a start by selling some old no longer needed equipment, the courier has just collected it and £140 should be in my bank account over the next few days - a good start I guess!
I think this week I will focus on the living room - declutterring behind the sofa's where things seem to accumulate!
  • OK So I am on a roll!
After posting above I was spurred on to declutter a bit more, so I have loaded the car with several items that are in my way and took them to the dump/recycling tip. My sofa is no longer hiding a microwave, sheets of glass (don't ask!) and the back path no longer has an old hoover plus a few other bits on it.
Now looking for what else I can declutter.
  • And my 3rd post of the day (making up for lost time I guess), I have:
    - taken a load of sharps bins to Dr (my DS has some medication administered by injection)
    - posted something that has been in my car for a while, the recipient will make better use of it than me
    - sold 6 books (£6.52 coming my way), packaged them up to send tomorrow
    - sold and posted a camera for money, I am expecting £20 minimum for it but could be more depending what condition they grade it as being in

401 - massive batch of work stuff (paper work) burnt on bonfire.

    421 - 5 other items CS
431 - another big bag to recycling bin.

I have also got a time limit now notmysttime. I need it. The end of September should be the time the Room of Doom is cleared. I had a good go at it today and got rid of a bag of polystyrene, and sorted a load of further bags for the CS. Found a box full of unused but bought ages ago birthday etc cards to be put in the place I have now allocated for them, so another box cleared.

So another bag down and lots ready to go. Feels great.

choille. ANY decluttering is great. I get fatigued easily so find that the best thing is to pace. Do a bit do something else or nothing until you feel ready to go again.

I allocate 10 minutes of my day to clearing and I follow Mrs SD's advice about sticking to one thing. It really helps. If i don't do any clearing I say no worries and if I do I pat myself on the back. Doing it in public here is a great motivator.

You know that old saying about starting journeys and single steps?......:D

That's good advice. Thank you - I just get overwhelmed with it all sometimes.

The last four days have seen some more bits go:
a jar of lentils and some lardons (both of which had been around too long) went into a sausage dish, a bag of old potatoes were divided between corned beef hash and the compost heap and a small portion of lasagne came out of the freezer for today's lunch.
another 10 paper decisions have been made and those papers are now recycled or burnt.
    3 lots of packaging
    gift wrap
    chocolate box
ancient mint imperials that had been caught in a dusty old file!
    catalogue
    magazine
2 lots of conkers (too shrivelled now to keep spiders at bay)
a bag of squishy salad leaves into the compost
    broken fish tank bubble stone
    broken espresso cup
    dried up pen
set of other dried up pens
overgrown shrubs encroaching on the window.

    New total 1,477.

The temperature's dropped so I had a bit more energy for decluttering!

Tuesday was another glorious summer’s day :D but way too hot to start dismantling the decking :p However, I did do two 15 minute bouts of path weeding in the front garden. Other than that all I have done is cleared down some more programmes from my planner. DH went & picked up his newly re-covered motorbike seat & then continued working on the restoration of the corn grinder. Dinner was salad - again :D including 3 hg tomatoes :D

2856 - 2869 Six drinks cans, glass jar & metal lid, glass bottle & metal cap, small food can, 2 plastic pots, plastic bottle & lid, 2 lots of cardboard packaging - Recycled
2870 - 2873 Bag of kitchen detritus, torn rubber glove, large piece of plastic packaging from a delivery, small bag of used tape - Binned

Still no decluttering & still not feeling guilty :p

Well Done :- notmy1sttime - you are back with a vengeance :T You have become a decluttering demon :rotfl:; choille; well impressed bit by bit - tackling a Room of Doom :rotfl::T; Cherryfudge you have been busy :D - :T:T:T:T

Parsniphead - RL has a habit of getting in the way of decluttering :rotfl:

Wednesday is supposed to be 10 degrees cooler so hopefully we can start on taking up the decking :)
