We were ‘poached’ on our ride from Colmar, France to Remich, Luxembourg  I will try not to rub it in (as I am reading on other threads that there is lots of rain in the U.K. :( ) - but we saw a Pharmacy sign saying 39 degrees Centigrade & some of the others in our group saw 42 degrees Centigrade  Fully kitted out (as responsible motorcyclists :rotfl:) apart from the initial hour driving up into the hills, the rest of the journey was in blazing sunshine with no shade & even when we managed a bit of speed the breeze was hot  so absolutely no respite apart from our cafe stop - a beer & a coffee for each of us & dunked heads in cold water ;) Our Hotel overlooks The Moselle - a nice spa hotel - guess who forgot her cossie :( . Met most of our group by the outside pool after we had both showered & changed - I had a coltish shower but DH turned the temperature up & had a warmish/hot shower - he is peculiar sometimes but he is mine :rotfl: The Hotel operate an honour system with the alcohol - decent sized chest freezer filled with beer & white wine - you just write your room number & what you have drunk 🥴
Eight of us dined in the Hotel - amuse-bouche, starter of bruschetta with roasted vegetables topping & salad & Parma ham; main course of three pieces of fish (salmon & 2 white fish) in a fish sauce, with mixed vegetables & rice; dessert was a huge slice of vanilla ice cream with pretty swirls of fruit sauce on the plate. Exceedingly large portions for an Hotel & very tasty & not ‘too’ pricey :rotfl: :T Beer or wine & lots of water was also consumed. We then went for a short promenade by the Moselle & watched the swans - about 3 dozen of them & also watched several large barges speeding to destinations unknown :rotfl:

Everyone off to bed by 10 p.m. :p it is exhausting being so hot :p

I am just nipping out for my last cigarette & then tmi warning ⚠️ will be sleeping unclothed on top of the bed :rotfl:

Topher, I think it is because we are never pleased with just sorting & packing & are always tired before we start :rotfl: Lists are your friends in these instances - break it down into jobs to be done & then cross them off as you go ;). May not make the job more interesting but will give you ‘some’ satisfaction :D
Of course, the other option is to dispose of all clothes & become a naturist :rotfl:

On that slightly risqu! comment, I will love you & leave you.
    See you all tomorrow :D

Why is it that spending a day dashing around vacuuming, running up and downstairs with laundry, fitting in an hour of gardening including mowing a lawn and digging weeds, getting some shopping in and prepping a couple of meals isn't anything like as bone-achingly exhausting as sorting and storing winter clothes, unpacking my summer wardrobe, putting boxes up on shelves and re=packing some storage. Which, by the way is just dispiriting and totally lacks the satisfaction of a job completed that I get from routine housework? I mean ..... Why?

Is it the number of decisions you have to make with the clothes? If something's being worn and ready to wear or dirty, no decisions needed.
If it's a winter garment going away: does it need cleaning, does it need repairing, has the weather gone rubbish and I need it again, will it still fit when I unpack it, oh heck I didn't wear it at all this winter well maybe next winter it cost me a lot of money, I hate this garment but it's waterproof, loathe this garment but it's so useful for work, it's a posh garment and I need it for the only posh do I go to every year, I thought I'd go to more posh do's what happened to my life...

    Hi All
Still decorating here..dilemma! a room has been emptied, painted and apart from essential furniture and a reading light i actually dont want anything to return into it :0 ..(trouble is its in a heap in another room!!)

It looks like a holiday rental and i quite like it :)

    So progress is slow

146 - silk flowers to CS bag in car
147 - framed picture to CS bag
    148 - CD - to bin
149- 100 emails checked and deleted from in box
150 - todays posted sorted within minutes of it arriving
151 - 50 items of paperwork weeded out of study and recycled

I will get on top of this paperwork (eventually!)
Had a bit of a lightbulb moment with DH when we both realised we are keeping things assuming the other liked it. We are now discussing stuff we have a mutual dislike of...

Wednesday in Remich & the temperature at 9:00 a.m was 26 C :D We showered before heading off to breakfast - lots of coffee, juice & cereal with milk for me & coffee, juice & baked goods for DH. Then as the temperature was continually climbing all the other ladies went for a swim in the outdoor pool & we all stayed out by the pool drinking water, beer etc for several hours. Gradually people wandered off for lunch in 2’s & one brave sole went out for a ride  DH & I walked 150 yards before the heat overwhelmed us (36 C) & we sat in Quai 14 & had lunch - potato salad & saucisse viennese for me & Quai 14 salad with tuna, prawns, anchovies & smoked salmon for DH & drinks. Barely a breath of breeze & out of the shade it was like a furnace - not much better in the shade :(. Retired back to the hotel, DH had a shower & a nap & I stripped off & had a mini snoozette :p The temperature now is 37 C & it is enervating - 3 steps outside & you are dripping  Believe we are dining out this evening - I just hope that they haven’t walked far ;) I love the sun but this is toooooo hot, even for me :p although if I were a few/lots of lbs lighter it might not be quite so bad :rotfl:

If I survive the trip out I will see you all later :rotfl:

  • Back for part two. Meet our fellow bikers in the place we had lunch - DH & I had a couple drinks - beer for him & fizzy Apple drink for me. Not hungry but had a dessert to be sociable ;) One of our number treated us all with his wife’s money :rotfl: Walked back to hotel - the temperature is finally clawing it’s way down to under 30 C :p Sat out by the pool until 10 p.m. with beers or water & then everyone parted company & went to their rooms. Tomorrow we leave for Beaulieu en Argonne - back in France for 2 nights.

We are all completely knackered with the heat - although some manage to look quite cool 😎

I will be having a shower before bedtime :rotfl:

Wednesday2000, I quite agree but it seems to work :D

short_bird, no it is NOT just you - I have t-shirts that over 20 years old & my best dress is 30 years old. The only things I have real trouble with are the scarves (several of which belonged to my dear departed mum) they are soooo pretty but I don’t wear them :p I am fortunate in that I can hang or put in drawers every seasons clothes :rotfl: but I do need to thin out the fleeces :( & I suppose I should be brave with the scarves ;)

Oh Picklepot you did make me smile 😊 not wanting to return items to your newly decorated room :D Well Done re the decluttering :T. Now that you & your DH are discussing decluttering, I expect to see a mahoosive list of all the items leaving your home :rotfl:

See you tomorrow - when hopefully I won’t be melting :p

Oh Short_bird, that's it exactly!! I love your post. Mine adds a section about the things I'm not fitting into 'at the moment' - in sone cases it's been decades not years!

I made a start on digital photos. I think this is going to be a long project!

We decluttered hours, money and petrol yesterday. I have in our second bedroom a rather large double pine wardrobe that is only half used and too big for the room really. It was bought for a different house we didn't end up buying. Then on Monday I stumbled on an eBay item of a gorgeous on Edwardian oak single wardrobe going at a cheap price of ten pounds BUT it had what looked like historic woodworm but could be live. It was just what I was looking for style and size wise. The auction had less than five mins to run when I saw it - I noted it was in Wales like us and put in a one time ten pounds only bid. THEN I looked up exactly where it was, oh my . . . a two and a half hour drive away . In that time I won the auction :rotfl: . So much for good planning. Off we went yesterday, and then also got a call to say our eldest was coming home after having had a bit of a mental health breakdown and being signed off work for two weeks and we needed to collect her at the station IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. A bit of planing and she would be getting a train after we got back home and had a decent rest . . . except of course, it didn't happen like that. After eight hours on the road her trains were cancelled and we had to travel to a further train station with only enough time in-between to off load the wardrobe. By the time we got home it had been a good twelve hours on the road and we were shattered. :( Hubby was ill most of the night, not sure if he ate something bad. SO not a good day that way.

Today I need to treat the wardrobe for woodworm just in case and then see what else needs to be done to make it functional and then I can sell the pine one. So it won't be real decluttering as it will be one in one out BUT I will have gained a significant amount of space in the bedroom and that has to be a win.

Sounds a lovely holiday Mrs SD - you deserve one with all your cheering us on. You are so encouraging.

164 - two envelopes of stored self collected seeds scattered in the flower bed.

165 - Broken Garden Fork binned! Been lying outside all dead for ages.

166 - Broken Water pump binned.

169 - three things posted. Used some cardboard I had in the recycling bin for one of them. I do reuse boxes that I collect from shops - I have a cupboard full.:o
