Reading everyone else's posts is really keeping me going. I was rushing out this morning but still managed to pick up 2 books I'd just finished reading to drop off at the charity shop. It's not much (I have thousands of books) but it's the start of a new attitude. Normally my default is to keep books but I'm going to try and make the default to give them away unless I would buy them again if the house burnt down.
This is tough but we can do it together! On that note I'm off to find some more stuff to sling tomorrow. 😁0 -

I have to admit books are my soft spot. Not helped by a huge bookcase my dad built me, it fills an entire wall, it's categorised by genre at the moment, but once I get to that part of the room it's going back to being arranged by colour, it's an absolute nightmare to find anything but looks amazing... :rotfl:
I can't read second hand books ever since I was tiny I refused to touch library books. So I get them on my kindle first now, it means I can carry a book around with me without any bashed corners, it's not as good as a paper version, but treat myself to a paper copy if I plan on rereading it.
............
Now that I have sat here looking at my bookcase, I'm considering getting rid of my DVD's my laptop doesn't have a disk drive, I don't have a TV, so it's only if everyone else is out, that I would ever get one out and even then we have Sky Q, Netflix and Amazon Prime. Still feels like a really tough decision thoughanything's possible if you've got enough nerve

Hello everyone, and Happy New Year to you all, well a healthier one will do nicely.
I am back again after a failed preChristmas challenge, but wiser
This year I will not be overambitious, so it is 365 items for the year.
Everyone out there, remember one item out is a success and last year I almost reached 400.
Apricot Crumble - you are in our situation of five years age house full, two spare rooms full two garages full, DD and DS 's bedrooms still full of their stuff a full forty years worth.
Be ruthless the cost of moving stuff to France was a great motivator.
I have two games that I play to add to the ones I have picked up on this thread
one is , like Frugal 's -I imagine we are moving to Australia - would I pay to have this item moved there? The other one is one I use before buying something - would I rather have the item or the money? For me, the money usually wins.
Thanks Mrs SD for starting the thread and for being such a motivator last year.
My challenge this year is 365 items. Today I started with
1cardboard box to recycling
2 envelope calendar came in to Recyc.
What a start, eh!0 -
That's me done for the day, I've done enough this past 2 days to do me the rest of the year :rotfl:
Now up to 8 black bags needing to go somewhere, I did phone the BHF yesterday morning about getting them collected, they told me my number would be passed on to the driver and he would phone me, needless to say I'm still waiting
Now considering they were crying out for donations as they have just relocated to a new store and can't get into their old one (due to safety cordon around it) you'd think they'd be quick to contact you back at least!
Anyhow, if I get no word by tomorrow then I'll have to see about getting a taxi to another bigger store - that don't do collections:mad: and it's really £20 I could do without spending to get there and back.
10 items sold on ebay this week so they've been posted today also, that's another lot away.
I have a few disney tradition tree ornaments that are brand new that I'm trying to sell on Disney FB groups, but people leterally want this for nothing these days and forget that it isn't free to post stuff!
I'll stick them on EBay and see if they sell, but it's the fees that really put me off using there now, between fees for the sold price and fees for postage it's sometimes not worth listing them.
Paid £6 unknowingly last night for Netflix, so have been watching the Marie Kondo programme. Question, do people really talk to their clothes etc before putting them in a bag?? That's not me:rotfl: Anyhow, is it just the few episodes that are there now or will there be more does anyone know?
Recycling boxes and rubbish bins out tonight, they're all full to the top, and a black bag with more cardboard in it also, so that'll be more stuff de-cluttered thankfully.Pay all debt off by Christmas 2025 £815.45/£3,000£1 a day challenge 2025 - £180/£730 Declutter a bag a week in 2025 11/52Lose 25lb - 10/25lbs Read 1 book per week - 5/52Pay off credit card debt 18%/100%0 -
I would like to join in please. I did have a go about 4 years ago when a friend was very helpful and kind but things build up. How do you manage to get rid of mothers crockery/glasses. Did manage some on Freecycle, seemed wrong to sell, but still have some - I know I am sentimental. Any idea how to get rid of video tapes, some are family type films and films recorded from TV - all respectable stuff. Have made a sort of start, washed a couple of items to put in CS bag and would biscuit tins be good for CS or just the tip, we used to use for buttons etc but not now-a-days. Am trying.0

I am on a roll. Just tackled the 7-year old's bedroom... I may need a lie-down. I must be up to about 6 bags of rubbish and charity shop bits!0
