  • The only brand I buy is Felix cat food - I've tried lots of other own brands but the fussy little monkeys just won't eat it. I do stock up on it while it's on offer though.

For us humans in the family there's no brands we are loyal too - I've found own brand labels for everything that are as good as, if not better than, the originals.

I thought I was brand loyal to Yorkshire Tea, but for fun, amongst some friends and my tea drinking family, we did a blind tea taste test, like Eat well for less. Yorkshire Tea came near the bottom, and the surprising winner was Tesco's Stockwell tea, which is about 49p for 80 tea bags - happy days! :T

My cats only like Gourmet Perle cat food. The dogs love the Waitrose wet food. They are very posh.:rotfl:

If you buy a particular gin like Plymouth because you like the flavour, what's the point of adding Sh** tonic? The Fevertree company was started by someone who used to work for Plymouth Gin and left specifically because they wouldn't branch out to develop a tonic that enhanced rather than drowned the flavour. I don't drink any more, but as I live next door to the distillery it's the only gin I drank, and I tried all the main brands and most of the tonics that were available. No contest, Fever Tree every time.

    Couldn’t agree more!

Adding cheap tonic to expensive gin ruins the flavour. You might as well just save money on the gin & buy the cheap supermarket paint stripper too.

    PG Tips
    Marmite
    Colman's mustard
    Branston pickle

Think that's it. We tend to go with own brand for pretty much everything else.

Food products on the whole, generally you get what you pay for. Though I would discount cereals from that rule where I cannot tell the difference between branded and non branded.

Compared to say clothes, where I think many so called designer brands, are generally no better than cheaper products.

See I thought that then I bought a Michael Kors hand bag, converted

Pollycat tried it don’t like it. Buy it in bulk when on offer is easier lol
One day I might be more organised...........
    GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb

I'm a bit confused about the reference to me.
What did I try and don't like?

    I did say IMHO!

Generic tonic is fine, I get 5 x 200ml glasses out of the litre bottle, each of which costs less than 10% of the price of Fevertree...plus I don't feel like I've been mugged off by someone spotting a gap that didn't actually exist. For every marketeer knows that a good story will sell their brand....

Only if the purchaser has heard the story.

Which I hadn't - I had a really nice G&T whilst we were down there and found out they used Fentiman's as a matter of course whenever Plymmy was ordered. It made it taste so much better than the usual yellow one (and is nice enough to drink on its own), I decided there and then that I'd drink it from then on.

Mind you, the other soft drinks they do are also nicer, not so sugary as most are - the Rose Lemonade and Elderflower are superior in taste to me, as well.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

I had some really nice tonic in Copenhagen :) I think it was called Nordic.

I also like Waitrose Essential tonic - although not necessarily as good with specific gins as fevertree or fentimans (and I had a long discussion with a gin-producing family friend about tonics in the summer), it has no artificial sweeteners in it, which makes it a good 'everyday tonic' that will work well with most gins.
