Actually I've just had the misfortune of discovering my failed attempt at downbranding.

The week before Christmas, all the decent (upper end ranges at Aldi, Lidl and Asda) mince pies had gone, so I resorted to buying a couple of boxes from Asda for 97p just in case. Have just bitten into one now with my morning cuppa and it is not a nice thing to eat. Be warned.

On the subject of tonic water, I found (in a small end-of-line/short dated shop) some Hartridges pink grapefruit tonic water.

I'd never heard of this company before.
Apparently, they've been in business since 1882.

  • I do like helmanns mayonnaise and Heinz ketchup and stick to those brands.
Not a brand, but with milk and eggs I buy organic; and for kitchen towel and loo roll I buy the thick luxury types as I find with the thin budget ones I just end up using more!

    Hellman's mayo.
    Only ever the original Marmite.
Morrison's own brand sort of wettishly dried figs.
Arial washing powder, with vinegar to 'condition.' Every single conditioner makes the conditioner dispenser mouldy, so Just No.
Lavazza decaffinated real coffee. None of the others come close and I drink two litres of it a day.
Good loo paper when it's on offer. Thin stuff :shudder:
OH prefers Branston Beans, often on offer. Kerching.
Country Life butter - OH prefers. I use own brand for baking.
Heinz tomato soup, but thanks to the above I'll try one can from Lidl. (It's now on the list. I love MSE Forum contributors.)
A Panasonic breadmaker, Allinson's yeast and grain and seed wholemeal.
    Total Greek yoghurt (OH again).
Despite my misgivings about it, thanks to MSE Forum contributors again, Stardrops.
Bissel carpet washers and their carpet shampoos - once again, thanks to an MSE Forum Contributor.
Gribble's chipolatas (South Devon butcher; sorry everyone who doesn't live in Plymouth, Ivybridge or Buckfastleigh.)

    Stock up online? http://www.gribblesbutchers.co.uk/

Nutella, my youngest DS and I agree there’s no substitute for it!
    Kellogg’s crunchy nut cornflakes
Heinz Ketchup (I can’t stand the stuff by the kids only like Heinz)

Liz Earle hair oil, it’s pricey but lasts me months and doesn’t make my hair greasy, no other serum/oil comes close for me and I’d panic if I ran out!

I didn’t fess up about my toiletry habit in my earlier post, I thought we were just doing household stuff (plus I’m a little ashamed:o).

I do have a terrible expensive habit for make-up, skin care & toiletries:eek:

I love L’Occtaine for the ultra rich Shea & the almond body range, love the almond shower oil especially. Love the hand creams too.

Not tried the shampoo and conditioner - are they very smelly? I like strongly fragranced ones :D
    Love Elemis toiletries too.

For shampoo and conditioner, I like Paul Mitchell & Phillip Kingsley best.

    I’m a bit of a brand tart, I love them all ;)

I love the L'occ almond cream too. I buy the exfoliating bR for the bath and have the oil for the shower. I use cheap shower gel on my working days and the nice stuff on my non working days.

My friend bought me L'occataine foot cream for Xmas and my mum bought me lots of Clarins - foot cream, eye make up remover and lip gloss.

The shampoo, conditioner and deep conditioner have a lovely smell that lasts all day.

Yeo valley full fat natural yoghurt -yummy!

For every marketeer knows that a good story will sell their brand....

It's not a good story that does it for me, it's the quality of the product and the various flavours that enhance the gins.
  • Food products on the whole, generally you get what you pay for. Though I would discount cereals from that rule where I cannot tell the difference between branded and non branded.

Compared to say clothes, where I think many so called designer brands, are generally no better than cheaper products.
