Sigh, anyone know when we get furlonged pay monies?
I am now a week in rent arrears and it hurts to think I worked so hard to get the balance cleared. I have basically gone from weekly pay to monthly with no warning , or pre planning.

When I get 'paid' I assume end of April, I will have to pay 3 weeks rent for April and 4 weeks for May... so 7 weeks rent in one hit... then the council tax for April £86 as paid £30 already and May's £116 so £202.00

I realise I am lucky to be furloughed, and there are so many people worse of than myself :( I just hate being in arrears especially after working so hard to clear them

No idea. I thought furloughed money is paid by the company you work for then they receive it back from the government, so you should be paid the same as usual? Are you paid through a temp agency or direct from the company you work for (can't remember if you were taken on permanently or not). I am due to be paid on the 20tj and am furloughed so am assuming the company I work for will run payroll like normal and then claim from the government. I think this is the reason smaller companies are unable to furlough as they may have cash flow problems.

I was still a temp through a recruitment agency. Hmm most odd, I sahll email the agency and ask when they are planning on paying people.

It is all so confusing and I realise no one has the answers! Thank you

I emailed asked the agency when payment will be made, and if they are planning on paying monthly or weekly.
    I received this response:
We are sending in the information when the portal first opens which is Monday 20th April. I have read today, that HMRC are hoping to turn it around in 6 days if/and when we are accepted. We will have a better understanding when the portal opens on Monday but my understanding is that it will be a pro-rata monthly payment.

The if/when we are accepted line is a casue for concern!

I'm aware of other temp agencies who are paying after they receive the government grant so effectively monthly instead of weekly pay.

Leave the council tax. They are amending bills so you can skip April and May, and then pay over the following 10 months. We actually received an amended bill from them. Maybe a phone call to them to double check.

Pay min on tesco card, annoying but needed.
Maybe pay 6weeks rent. Again annoying, but by the end of May you will be in a position to know if you are going back working or not.

This would mean you are paying out 765.78, leaving 210.92. For food. So you don't starve, and any extra for elec if needed. Go super frugal (you have experience here) any left after next payday can be used for that 7th week rent or c/t

    Morning Drawingaline,
I very much doubt my borough council are that nice, haven't heard anything from them. I have put in a claim to see if I can get council tax help alas I doubt I will qualify.
Work, personally I cannot see us going back to work for a while yet, the company I was temping for furlonged 50 staff yesterday! This virus isn't going to disappear anytime soon, no point trying to predict anything, just taking one day at a time, or tying to.
As you say I am going to have to bite the bullet with Tescos cc. I had a plan to have it paid off by August time... Can I take this moment to have a break down, a strop, a toddler tantrum, Life is so unfair.... Big girl pants now on and big breaths... I have my health xx
I just want to cry, felt like I was finally getting somewhere with the debts and the rug has been swept from underneath my feet.

    I have just paid:
    Rent £450.30 - a months rent 103.91 x 52 / 12 = £450.28 rounded up as hate silly numbers.
    Council Tax - £116.00 paid a month
    Water - £25.00
Tescos cc - will pay when the card updates and demands the money (no idea what that is officially called)
The rest will come out via direct debt and will be the aforementioned figures

I do have £40.00 left over from the money I got beginning of April, I guess not popping to the shops on way to work and buying crap like crisps and other snacks on a whim adds up

    Thank you Xx

  • Hi @Starbrite, just wanted to pop in because I can see this must be really difficult for you. I've had many strops since this situation started, I think we're all entitled to it. You've been doing so well, this is a blip for a lot of people, don't see it as a failure, it's just delaying a few things. Do what you can and be kind to yourself

Thank you Startingagain, I half feel that I am not entitled to having strops as we are on in this, I have voiced a strop about something non money related on FB and well 'friends' were not supportive and gave me the 'we are all going through this' line. Think it is harder for those of us who live on our own and don't have a partner/person to talk things through and mull over the options with.

Thank you so much for your kind words Xx
