2019 Transforming and Becoming Mortgage Free!

  • Lots of plan making has been going on! :D

Next year, I have things that I want to do - I don't have to do any of them (apart from paying off the cc) but it's stuff that I want for or in my life ;) I've decided that we're doing the following in 2020:
*Paying off the credit card and one other interest free debt
*Having 2 holidays - 1 family one in this country and 1 luxury one abroad for me and dh only  Its one off the bucket list ;)
    *Saving for garden renovations
    In 2021 we'll be:
*Paying off the remainder of the interest free debt
*Having 2 holidays- 1 in this country and 1 abroad but just me and dh only on both :D both off the bucket list :D
    * Getting garden completed
    * Refit kitchen and utility room

It's going to be in a different order to my original plans - I'm waiting until next winter to get the garden sorted. I want to get rid of the credit card (which has been the number one priority anyway) but I also want to pay a debt to a family member- regardless of their insistence that they don't want the money back, their financial situation is very different now to when they originally gave us the 'loan' and I want to pay it back.
The holidays are sheer indulgence but it's about time we started to live - we've had a couple of bits of bad health news for close friends and family recently and it has brought into great clarity the necessity to enjoy the freedom we've worked for by directing a good portion of it to doing things we want to do. The bucket list is going to have things struck off annually! :D

Much of next year I will be focusing on living frugally, making as much food as possible from scratch, getting the garden ready for the renovations and growing as much as possible in the pots and greenhouse. It will be my first year in two years where I will not have internal renovations going on - the first year full of weekends that are free for me to cook, make preserves, potter in the garden and concentrate on living the life I want to live :j I'm immensely excited about the year ahead:D
  • I've had a think and I've decided that I am going to start my new thread today! :D in all honesty, there's nothing holding me back now- the internal renovations are completed as planned and the mortgage is paid off :j I know that I was meant to renovate myself but I'm rolling that particular challenge forward to the next 12 months ;)

So, the good - 1. the mortgage is gone! :j obviously the biggest achievement this year :D
    2. The inside of the house is done (windows to be finished off still but should be sorted soon) - full rewire and replaster; new woodwork throughout; full redecoration; new internal doors; carpeted throughout; new staircase spindles and handrails; new lighting, curtains and soft furnishings; new beds and new curtain rails. All paid for.
    3. Finally finished with the everest saga and was successful. :T
    4. Have not wasted too much money throughout the year

The bad: 1. I've had to go through the everest saga :wall:
    2. I've probably spent more than I've had to due to exasperation with living in chaos
    3. I've slipped on a lot of personal care stuff due to being bone-idle!! :o:rotfl:

All in all, it's been a really good and productive year and I've really enjoyed your company and support on the way :D I hope you'll pop in again on my new thread .... two years to start living my dreams and clearing all outstanding renovations and old interest free debts.

Once that is done, we will have total financial freedom other than day to day living expenses so if I can get it down to less than 24 months but still have my mf 2 holidays per year that we promised ourselves, I'll be a happy squirrel!! ;)

And I'll put a link up to my new thread once I sort it! ;)
  • Congratulations on becoming mortgage free :j:j:j
