It's not just that. We all have shares in RBS and Lloyds. The government bailed them out with tax payers money. The higher the share price when the government sells off those shares the better the return for the government coffers and the more money available for government spending. That is not just for tax payers, everyone benefits (and some will be claiming them).


As Biggles said it will turn around again as long as the companies you are invested in are good. But I am not sure how a currency problem in Argentina can so seriously effect our stock market. I suppose it's down to the global economy and the City of London dealing in global funds. But it does seem that if there is a problem some where else we get too easily effected by it.

Well that was a blood bath today! Teeny bit of good news looked like the Dow Jones being in positive territory until the last 30 minutes of trading, and it closed 41 points down. Not as bad as the FTSE though! Hopefully that could mean the FTSE is oversold, but I wouldn't bet on it! There is still the concern of tapering by the Fed. That isn't resolved until Wednesday I believe. So the FTSE may still be negative tomorrow. Tin hat and brown trousers on!

Does anyone think that Lloyds Banking Group is a good buy, as a long-term investment? My logic is that in the long term, the share price is bound to rise when the government decised to sell off its stake. Having said that, the counter arguments are:

- The costs associated with PPI misselling just keep piling up, running up to £10 billion so far.
- The bank has incurred fines for LIBOR fixing
- Labour is likely to break the bank up if it gains power in the next election
- "Ed Miliband has... already committed the party to capping the market share of the big five lenders, which could entail a bank like Lloyds being forced to sell off branches."
- Many analysts think the shares are already fully-priced, having risen by around 55% in the last year.

If you have money to invest then now is as good a time as any to invest in Lloyds. The market is down and Lloyds has fallen from 86.7p on 15th January to the current price of around 80.5p. Long term? Who knows? I would have thought the share price should rise from now. But then we now have yet another scandal blowing up with investigations in to foreign exchange price fixing.

I think triple digits is possible for Lloyds. Mostly because they benefit from low rates and mortgages repaid rights many wrongs elsewhere
short term 50p would be nice, well possible also
